Gala nights on QM2

IMHO I think you'd feel outta place, most ladies on Gala nights go all out glamour evening gown or at the very least smart trousers and show stopper top.

Transatlantic crossings on the whole still retain the atmosphere of old world cruising ie dressing for dinner so Gala nights are black tie de rigeur.

A LBD will suffice if you don't want to lug a gown, but make the effort you'll be glad you did once on board 😉 hth

I personally find smart black trousers and nice tops are fine in the MDR however due to luggage restrictions (doing further travel before and after the cruise) I skip the gala nights in the MDR but can still feel comfortable around the rest of the ship. Especially if I’m on a table with very dressy people out of respect for them although by then they mostly know we are on a long trip. Also some fake pearls can help!

I love dressing up and wish they would make every sea day gala (except the last night, of course). ship the posh frocks to make my pre/post cruise easier.
