Currency to take on a Baltic Cruise

Recommended Posts

Since as far as I am aware Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia are not within the Eurozone, what Currency is worth tacking ? I know you can use the usual

cc cards in most places but some times you cant , any suggestions. Thankyou in anticipation

Discussed frequently on the Northern Europe board, here:

As mentioned, credit cards are extremely widely accepted, and definitely preferred. Last summer we got $60 USD (minimum allowed on a ATM) worth of Danish krone for 3 days in Copenhagen. Worked very hard to spend one third of it.

We didn't use ANY cash on cruise stops in Norway, Greenland, Iceland and Canada. All credit cards.

I just returned from central Europe. I didn't need cash but we needed coins for the restrooms in many place. Let me tell you, those ladies who run the toilets have NO mercy. Prague had a credit card machine for people who didn't have coins.

@alanandpam

Thank you for your new topic on the Ask a Cruise Question forum! However, it is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. Your inquiry concerns specific locations and is off topic there.

To help you out I have moved your new topic to the Northern Europe & Baltic Sea forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that live in or have sailed the area frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

I notice you did not Follow this new thread of yours. suggest you use the Follow feature on any threads where you are interested in the new posts. That way you will not have to go looking to see if there are new posts because they will come looking for you as notifications. If you need more info on how to do it, please click here How to: Follow Topics & Forums (Subscribed Threads/Forums Info).

Hope this will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Host Kat

Bring Euro. For Denmark and Sweden use credit card (chip and Pin)  - almost cashless.

And cards are widely accepted also in Finland and Estonia, so probably you won't need much cash even in those countries. On the other hand, if the Baltic cruise includes stop in Germany, there for some odd reason many places won't accept credit cards, but obviously euros in cash are accepted.
