Alesund Hop On/Hop Off vs "train,"

Recommended Posts

We want to do the city on our own and go to the "top of the mount" as well. We are looking at HOHO bus as well as the little blue "train" they have there. Do you recommend booking both or just one for a port day? Thanks

You might find it helpful to read this previous thread which has lots of Alesund info and tips on what to do and see.  Both the HOHO and the little train are mentioned and almost everything you might want to know about Alesund can be found in it.

Such an attractive town to visit and popular with cruise pax.  Enjoy.

you cant leave the blue train. you're there till it completes the loop back to the terminal, just like a tour bus.

i was going to do the hop on/off but got lucky and found the 7.5hr Troll Rd tour bus.

they had empty seats. went to atm and got cash.

Search for my review with link to buy directly from operator instead of re-seller (like viator)  if you dont want to pay cash

We did the blue trolley City Bus in Alesund.  It did stop on the mountain like the hoho buses.  It was slightly shorter than the hoho buses but around $10pp cheaper.  Lovely city.  We didn't want to do a long 7-8 hour tour but if you do the troll road tour had good reviews.  Book direct or if you are on the Pride with Sandra.

We also did the blue trolley in Haugesund.  Very boring town.  Do an excursion out of town instead.

Did the bus stop at the top for long enough to get off and take photos? How long? Or did you have to wait for the next bus?  When you say blue trolley city bus, was this another option besides the "train" and HOHO bus? Thanks!

Though it is called "City Train"  it looks like a trolley car and moves with the traffic.  In Alesund it stopped at the top for about 20 minutes, long enough to take pictures and climbing even farther up for more views.  And it stayed with us all the time.

Now in Haugesund the only stop was the middle of the city where we got off and walked around.  We waited around 45 minutes for another to pick us up back to the ship.
