I have read that Brazil will start requiring U.S. citizens to have a Brazil visa on Jan. 1, 2024?

I sure hope you are right and it is postponed until 1/1 as we leave Brazil on 12/28 and would not need a visa.

The Brazilian government has said that the online E-visa application will be available 30-days prior to the Oct 1st effective date.  On the other hand, punctuality is not a hallmark of the Brazilian culture😁

FWIIW:

We obtained our Brazilian Visas in 2015 utilizing a rather-convoluted process involving a Seattle business specializing in "expediting" the procedure.  Still, significant documentation was needed, including making a personal visit to that business and signing additional forms.  At that time, Seattle did not have a Brazilian Consulate.  Not sure if it does now.

Worth noting was those Visas (costing about $200.00 each) are (were) good for 10 years.  Thus, same were affixed to our Passports and utilized for two subsequent (pre-COVID) Regent cruises to Brazil.  No problems.

Hopefully, the new process--whenever it comes into effect, will be more efficient.  Be sure to check yours to see if the new Visas are also good for 10 years.

GOARMY!

Interesting. We had to get a $150.00 visa 01/09/2007 when we cruised on the Mariner.

Did say it was good for 10 years at that time.

We went to the Brazilian Embassy in Houston for our first one…. It was almost $600 for two there at that time but wasn’t hard  to get going direct to the Embassy. It was good for 10 years and we did use it two more times but had to carry the old passport the on the last trip. Wonder what this one will cost! We will need one so the Amazon cruise next year.

Per the link in  @HonTri post above, the cost will be AUD 152 ($97 USD) and the E-visa online application should be available Sept 1st. So in a few days we should, but may not, finally have our answer. I've been told punctuality is not a Brazilian virtue😁
