EricInMD Posted September 19, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2023 Hi, I have two daughters (both early 20s) and we are considering a cruise from San Juan to the Carribean in mid Jan 2024. We've done cruises on Royal and Celebrity when they were younger. We all like to travel everywhere. I consider our family to be centrist and willing to party together. I like the idea of trying something different with Virgin Voyages, but I am concerned that my daughters or my wife and I may feel awkward if the shows are very adult oriented. Would love to hear if anyone has traveled with adult children on Virgin and how did it go.
Rare cantgetin Posted September 19, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2023 The only very adult show has been canceled. Some of the shows could be on Disney, some have a fair amount of innuendo, but nothing overt. I was concerned about Bingo with the Diva, but it was hysterical. For what it is worth, I travel with my young adult daughter who has been my cruise partner since she was 4 years old. We both love Virgin.
kimkencruzers Posted September 19, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2023 I'm about to find out!. I have this apprehension also.
warmwinds Posted September 19, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2023 We saw many I'd say even 3-generational families on our cruise - 20's kids, 40-50s parents, and grandma and grandpa along for the ride. Everyone smiling. I was also apprehensive based on everything I had read, thought they'd be nekkid people hanging from chandeliers everywhere, and believe me their current tv commercials lead you to believe it's party central, but it's there if you want it, not if you don't.
jroe4567 Posted September 19, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2023 We took our two sons (24 and 27) and two daughters in law on the irresistible med in May. I had some of these concerns too but we had the time of our lives! It was so much fun, nothing was over the top or embarrassing. I highly recommend it and would love to do it again with our kids.
Mark_UK Posted September 19, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2023 I recently took my parents and was nervous about this from the other side, but we had a great time and I was pleased to see them enjoying things like the (pretty tame) drag show, bingo, etc. Nothing was crude or particularly inappropriate.

But if y'all are open minded and open to fun, you guys will have an amazing time together. We've met so many families traveling together. It's such a 'freeing' experience not being surrounded by younger kids. Think of it as Summer Camp for Adults and you get the idea of what it's like all day long on a VV ship. 🙂

Freelancer3 Posted September 19, 2023 #10 Share Posted September 19, 2023 We traveled with one of our adult sons. He really enjoyed it and is paying to join us on his second cruise with us next year.

Travel-and-See Posted September 22, 2023 #12 Share Posted September 22, 2023 If you’ve ever gone to an adult comedy show on celebrity you’ve heard the same level of language / jokes. The only main difference is you’ll occasionally hear F words or jokes about sex / drug use in the main shows or from the musicians on board. If you think it would be awkward going to a drag show or a dance club with your kids, just don’t go. There’s so many great things to do on Virgin - and the way you can relax on their ships is really great.
kwokpot Posted September 22, 2023 #13 Share Posted September 22, 2023 This thread to me is a bit odd. Granted I don't have kids of my own but I've watched my niece and nephew grow up since they were born and they're now in their mid and late 20s. I don't understand how anything should be awkward with 20-somethings that are your own kids. It's not like you're all going to a strip club or watching graphic porn on the Internet. So I don't understand the apprehension.

Adult entertainment like in a strip club. in reality it just means there aren’t annoying tweens and teens running around the ship! Haha.

If the family has watched popular TV together there's plenty of graphic language and sex. Would you feel awkward watching an R rated movie or TV series with your 21 year old? Last years American Horror Story featured pretty graphic gay sex and gay storylines. Again I don't understand.

Agree. "Early 20-year olds" are not children. They are adult, in this case, daughters.
Rare MeganGC1983 Posted September 25, 2023 #17 Share Posted September 25, 2023 (edited) I sailed with my dad and his GF in January. Tons of fun and she won drag queen bingo. And we are talking, they don’t drink and are in a pew every Wednesday and twice on Sundays. 🤷🏼♀️ Edited September 25, 2023 by MeganGC1983
