Regent App for Tours

Hi, I have downloaded the Regent app to use on tours and connect to my own headphones/ear buds, to make hearing the guide easier, when in large groups. But does this app get used by the guides or is it something that people don’t bother with?

And, please adopt something like the VOX system with recharging stands in the suites.  Viking manages to do this on larger ships than Regent.  Insist that the local guides use whatever system is adopted.  Most are familiar with these systems because they are widely in use.

Relying on a Regent app requires that 1) people have smartphones and know how to download and install apps (yes, you might assume that by now everyone can, but keep the Regent demographics in mind), 2) people remember to bring charged phones with earphones (as opposed to picking them up from a recharging stand), 3) the guides make use of this non-standard system, and 4) Regent staff on board are prepared to trouble-shoot a wide variety of phones with different configurations and (probably) running old OS versions.

The lack of use of these systems is mostly my ONLY beef with Regent excursions (after 30 cruises on Radisson/Regent).

Get the VOX system or equivalent!

@mikemoore Since it's been six months since your post, is there any update on a new app or other system for guides to use, please?  Given that many in Regent's demographic need assistance to hear guides, this would seem to be a must.

There is a new app in development, but nothing related to audio for tours.

Absolutely agree with Portolan. Regent’s resistance to using the VOX or equivalent system is baffling. The response I got was that tour companies were not set up to use those types of systems. Those of us who have been on river cruises and/or other ocean cruises know that they’re used everywhere. Having to stand 10ft directly in front of a tour guide, so that you can hear them is absurd in this day and age. C’mon Regent, you can do better.

While on the bus, the speaker system is fine to hear the guide. Off the bus, you might as well be on your own because only the people right by the guide can hear what they are saying. This is especially true for the standard large group tours. Small group tours are a little better as far as hearing the guide.
