Weather is always variable and the Atlantic is a huge ocean, so knowing the ports will help in providing an educated guess.

Mostly interested when we are out to sea. My guess is that it is still pretty chilly then. Our itinerary goes from Miami-Bermuda and across to Azores and then coastal Portugal

Departing Miami to Bermuda, once offshore you may experience the NE Trades, which would be head winds, making it rather windy over the decks. Temps should be reasonably warm.

 

From Bermuda, the prevailing wings are SW'ly, so mostly following winds, so relatively calm over the decks. Temperatures should be reasonable most of the way. In Portugal, I expect temps to be 20C/70F +.

 

All subject to encountering a frontal depression. Chance of experiencing a TRS in May is extremely low.

@Heidi13 I’m on an early May TA FLL to Amsterdam with a stop in Azores.   How much of a difference does that make compared to the itinerary you just commented on?

Provided you don't experience any frontal depressions, the prevailing winds until a day or two before the Azores should be the NE Trade winds. These will generally be from fwd of the beam, so increase the wind over the deck.

 

After the Azores, the prevailing winds should be SW'ly, so following winds, which should reduce the wind over the deck.

We sailed Port Liberty to Southampton last year - lovely cruise without untoward weather issues.  Comfortable for sail away including a full pass of the Statue of Liberty.  As expected, very windy sailing to Ponta Delgado but comfortable temperatures for us.  Very cool and windy at night on the decks.  Time changed at noon each day and did not impact our sleep.  Warm and humid at Ponta Delgado.  This year we are Cape Liberty, along the Canadian coast and on to Iceland.  We search for ways to use a TA as transport to Europe or Baltic for another cruise (only have to fly one way)
