Thank you @cruiseny4life.  We will have a great trip, regardless of where my parents decide to book their accommodations.  Just being fortunate enough to experience Alaska together is a dream come true.

I felt a little foolish this morning reading CC. I have a brain injury and don't always realize how my words come out and in re-reading my post I realize that it may have made us sound entitled in a way that was not intended.  I truly apologize for anyone who may have taken offense.

You're fine.

I used to live up by your area:)

Oh?  Whereabouts Heidi

I'm originally from the Concord area and DH is from Manchester, and we've owned in Meredith for almost 20 years.  I love being surrounded by water, so being on a cruise ship or sitting on my deck at home are my happy places!

I'm afraid we might be in the same boat.  DH and I are booked on the Joy in an H5 for Alaska next year.  And now my parents are probably joining (which I am excited for!). I can't imagine a world where they would spend the money for the Haven (although  Mom was treated to the Haven last October on the Joy, by yours truly and she loved every minute!).  The same as, I can't ever think of asking DH to give up his beloved Haven (after 6 or 7 trips in the Haven, it's hard to go back) just for my parents.  I don't want either my husband or my parents  to have less of an experience for any of our first (and most likely my parents only) trip to Alaska!

If only I could win Mega Millions and just treat them....A girl can dream!

The Joy has lots of options across a wide spread of budgets. If it's available, they have a new 3br Haven cabin (formerly the owners suite) that you can all fit into easily without being on top of each other. Or, if you're in a 2br now, consider downgrading to the cheaper HH, HI, or HJ cabins just outside of the courtyard. Bigger rooms, cheaper prices than what you're paying for the H5. At a cheaper price point and with the downgrade savings you'll have, it may now put Haven into the budget for your folks to get their own 'simple' Haven room.

Hahaha...if I won a billion (ok, what's that after taxes, $20?)...I'd consider it. A one and done! Not saying I will, so that someone can't sue me later on for promising. This post is in no way a promise. And, I get to choose who my CC buddies are. @schmoopie17, you'll make the cut! I think we'll bring a platter of cookies and hash browns (sealed, of course) to the executive chef as a gift at the meet and greet.

With my shared love of all things potato and puppy related, I would hope I make the exclusive VIP list for that sailing.

New Hampton and Moultonborough.  I love being surrounded by water too.

With a suite on the Joy, you will be able to have breakfast and lunch in Cagney's...your son and his girlfriend will not be able to join you there.

We also just booked the Joy Penthouse suite SC for this May 2024 trip and hope you can help answer some of my questions :

Is there Priority embark and Disembark special lines or guides to take us on & off the ship?

Is the breakfast & Lunch in Cagneys permitted every day complimentary?

Is there anything special sent to the suite?

Complimentary wine or champaine ?

It seems difficult to find any information on those Penthouse suites, thank you in advance for your help & advice.

there is no breakfast or lunch in cagney's, complimentary or otherwise.

the joy is a lovely well run ship, one of my favorites. but when it comes to suites, it's an oddball. most of the suite perks were stripped away from the suite category a couple of years ago. those booking suites get a nicer, larger room and not much else. you will not get an invitation to breakfast and lunch in a specialty restaurant.

there will be a letter in your suite from the concierge... same concierge and team that handles the haven. you can reach out to get details on priority disembarkation. the concierge will, for the most part, be otherwise invisible.

We have stayed in a Joy Penthouse Suite.  Our opinion, the only reason we would book this cabin category on the Joy again is for the bigger cabin, bathroom and balcony.

I did reach out to Concierge yesterday and we DO get complimentary Breakfast & Lunch at Cagneys as well as Priority embark & Disembark, complimentary sparkling wine and several other things. When in doubt, call and ask directly.

oh, dear.

well, that's generally good advice - to reach out and ask directly.

my best guess, however, is that the onshore pre-trip concierge has no idea what he or she is talking about and may not understand that the joy suites are treated differently than almost every other suite accommodation across the fleet.

based on my experience, you won't get a butler or most suite perks. what you will get is a lovely larger room, bathrobe(s), better bed linens and a pillow top mattress. you'll also get a phone number to a relatively absent concierge team who will deprioritize suite requests over haven requests and may not even respond to you for several days, if at all.

there is no invitation to a private breakfast for suite passengers on the joy. nor is there any invitation to a private lunch for suite passengers on the joy.

you can verify this by going online and doing a mock booking for the prima or almost any other ship, where you'll see in the suite description that you'll receive "invitations to exclusive breakfast/lunch." then go online and do a mock booking for another cruise on the joy for a penthouse suite; those words will not appear in the suite description. you can also compare the two suites to see the other missing benefits.

or you could just call back until you get somebody knowledgeable.

i know how upsetting this must be... and you are right to be skeptical of anonymous information on the internet. but - unless something has changed in the past month or so - you won't be getting breakfast and lunch as a suite guest on the joy. plan accordingly.

Did you specify it was for the Joy? As UK said and others have said multiple times - just look at the website. The booking information for suites on the Joy is very different from non-Haven suites on other ships.

Penthouse suite on the Joy - you get concierge reservation services, and priority specialty dining reservations. That's it.

For comparison, this suite is on the Gem. It spells it out the sparkling wine, treats, escort on/off the ship, and invitations to breakfast/lunch. The Joy does not say any of that because it does not include any of that.

If you booked through a travel agent, get it in writing. That way when it doesn't happen you can ask them for a partial refund on what they promised you. If you booked through NCL directly, ask them to show you in your booking confirmation where it says you have these perks. Because it won't be there.

I brought my parents into the studio lounge for cappuccino, tea, and cake a couple of times. No one was there to tell me I couldn't do that.

That did not make it right! It just means you got away with it. Having said that, I don¨t think anyone would tell you off, because people in general are friendly. But, as I said, that doesn¨t make it right!

Unfortunately, as @UKstages and @Sailing12Awaystated above, you were given incorrect information.

We have stayed in one of these suites and did not receive complimentary breakfast & lunch at Cagney's.
