Their 2025 Charter on Nieuw Amsterdam January 19 - 26

I love their listing of "Activities" 😉

There is a good country song in there somewhere.

Oh My God! What a lineup, including the Grand Ol' Opry. We have been to Opryland and the Ryman Auditorium a few times. Thanks for the information.

Country Music is our genre.....

And yes, HAL delivers......

Billboard Onboard always drops in a few country sets.....And all the standards are played as well as some of the new stuff......We love it when Country Top 100 appears on the Billboard Onboard schedule.....The Billboard Onboard presenter last month on the Oosterdam did a great Patsy Cline....Crazy....and a great Going to "Jackson" Johnny & June Cash

Also, music trivia will have a country theme......

We manage to get our country fix onboard......

Enjoy the country music.....and the journey.

Hi, FlaMarina,

On our several HAL cruises, we never heard a country set at Billboard. Hopefully on Koningsdam in  January 2025, there will be a Billboard musician who can add that dimension.

I booked the wrong January 2025 HAL cruise! If only I had known about one...!

It is a regular HAL charter.  Just keep an eye on their website or watch out for my updated charter thread.  Then book the right one!

Thanks, I will. Is your charter thread easily found on Cruise Critic?

I don't think you will find that guy entertaining on a cruise. Imagine what the cruise fare would be.🤔

I'll be happy to pay for that.

If you have 'signatures' turn on, then there is a link on each of my posts. see attached image.

If 'signatures' is turned off, then you will just have to watch for updated posts.  Next one will be posted around start of June.

You've been deprived then....or perhaps you were at the casino or the rock room?

Country has always shown up on the Billboard Onboard schedule...at least for our numerous cruises over the past 5 years or so...for as long as Billboard Onboard has been onboard.

Hi, FlaMarina,

I do feel very deprived. First, Lincoln Center is gone. Second, I now find out that there actually may have been some country music I missed. Woe is me! My parents had retired to Fort Lauderdale and my wife's to Del Ray. We have a lot of family and friends still in Florida.

The best country concert I ever attended had Willie Nelson as the lead attraction. Merle Haggard and Ray Price were also on the bill. This was at Bethel Woods which is at the site of the original Woodstock concert in 1969 (which I also attended.) I have also seen Willie Nelson 2 other times there after the first show I mentioned.

Hi, ontheweb,

We saw the Oak Ridge Boys in concert years ago (last century!). I won tickets to a Gatlin Brothers show via a radio station at a venue that involved taking a ferry to reach (this century). The total trip was about 2 hours each way plus the concert. I was a lot younger!

We are not big fans of concerts, too expensive, too many people. We have a Folk Life Festival in Seattle on Memorial Day with many types of folk/country music. We used to go every year when it was free. Hordes of people, usually in good weather, brought our own seats. Now, they charge and it is beyond our budget (retired seniors).

I have been a country fan since 1950 (9 years old) living in suburban New York. There was a country music station in Paterson, NJ and the wake-up show was called Barkin' with Larkin (the host). I used to listen while getting ready for elementary school. It was a very sad day for me when it was announced that Hank Williams had died. I did not want to go to school.

I had a good friend in Liberty, Jeff Sternberg, whom I had met on a HAL cruise in 1966. His family owned a lumber yard if I recall correctly. lost track of him when we moved to Seattle in 1975.

I knew him a long time ago. He owned Fallsburg Lumber.

Talk about a small world. Jeff helped us design our first house in Green Township NJ (near Newton in Sussex County). Do you know if he is still around?

Of the 8+ different venues on MSC cruise, there is actually a 5 piece band that only does Country. And they were popular (though a bit flat). Wouldn't recommend booking just for that, but maybe HAL will add some approved songs to their 200 list. Then of course it would be up to the band to agree to play them. On our last Rotterdam cruise, while the Rock Room musicians were good, they chose the same songs almost every night which, which is ok if you didn't watch them every night.

Reading this, I can't help thinking of Blues Brother's "Rawhide" bar scene.

Billboard does CW sets as does either BB King or Rolling Stone Lounge (can't remember which).  Earlier this year we had a singer doing Johnny Cash songs on stage as well as a singer doing John Denver songs.  If there is CW music going on I am there!  🙂

It would be more correct to say that Billboard TRIES to do country music.  I was on the Eurodam in January listening to a guy with a high tenor voice TRY to tackle a Johnny Cash song.  It was so bad that several people were holding back laughing.

Let's say that country music is NOT a strong point.

I am on the Nieuw Amsterdam in Alaska right now and tonight, on the main stage, there was a group called, The Rhinestone Cowgirls. They were great and tonight they played a set called Legendary Ladies of Country Music. Lots of classic Country music and we really enjoyed them. It was 3 women singers and a 4 piece band playing with them.
