Oslo or Amsterdam

Recommended Posts

I disembark in Oslo and have four (4) days until I embark on a TA from Amsterdam.   How many days would you recommend spending the extra days?  I have been to Amsterdam recently and have seen quite alot there.  Any recommendations for both or one of the ports?  Happy 4th!!!

I also would fly into Amsterdam the day before your Amsterdam departure.  You can do a few more things in Amsterdam that day/nigth and the next day before boarding your ship.  Whatever time that leaves you with, use it to explore Oslo.

Also...be aware that there are several dock locations possible in Amsterdam, or surrounding areas. Maybe deciding where spend the night before your cruise may consider that.

You can see quite a lot of Oslo in 3 days, depending on your interests, which would give you a comfortable buffer before the Amsterdam embarkation.

Both are great cities, but Amsterdam presently seems to be saying they want less tourists. I have not heard anything similar said by Oslo.

Well, the tourism bureau did just put out a viral ad asking why anyone would want to come here 😉

I personally wouldn’t spend the entire time in Oslo. I’m sure it’s a lovely city to live in, but the rest of Norway is much more interesting and scenic. You could take the train to Finse or Flam, or even continue to Bergen. The countryside and the fjords are lovely!

If you get a chance, visit the Kon Tiki Museum in Oslo.  Especially if you have read the Thor Heyerdahl books about the Pacific Islands.  And Oslo Pass gives you a lot of places to see for one price.
