Scavenger Hunt aboard ship

Recommended Posts

I have a group of 60 sailing on the Monarch in October. I would like to have a scavenger hunt but not sure what items I should ask them to find or how long to have the hunt and how many items.

Help, has anyone on these boards done a scavenger hunt?

Really need some ideas.

Thanks,

We had teens come to our cabin door on one cruise, and ask for "normal" scavenger hunt stuff.........................bobbypin (who uses those anymore?), paperclip, etc................ We had fun trying to help them.

saw the cutest little red hat earrings in the local pharmacy today...

What about asking for one of those from someone NOT in your group?

Red hat......from a man.....not a baseball cap.

Hair piece/wig.....

one silk stocking.....good luck with this in the Caribbean! hehe.

a red feather.

a diary

a mint julep.

You get the idea. :)

what a hoot looking for stuff that's hard to find.

You go girls!

I would make a list of things to find on the ship. Then I would say the first person or group of persons back gets a prize. I would have them get things like:

A tiny drink umbrella

A seasick bag

Clothing with the ships logo on it

A dinner menu

A cruise ship shopping guide or activities guide

Food item off buffet like a banana or carrot

One of the ship's souvenir drink cups

The captain's signature

A deck of cards with the ship's logo on it

I think if you put really hard things to find in the scavenger hunt, people will think it's too hard and give up. Feathers, wigs, and other odd items would seem very difficult if not impossible to find. People could be gone for hours with nothing to show for it. If you make the list easier and a little more ship related I think it will be more fun. I have been on scavenger hunts with things like these on the list and we had a blast trying to get them all and be the first ones back. The fun part was downing the drink of the day so we could have a souvenir drink cup to show for the scavenger hunt. I would make sure they had to go all over the ship to get these items. Make sure they have to hit the dining room, casino, pool area, spa, and any other place you can think of. Make them go all over the ship to get their stuff. That makes it more fun. I hope the scavenger hunt turns out great. Good luck!

we did some in the teen area on rccl where you have to find different items and dress up like a high heel, red nail polish, green eyeshadow ect and put it all on. there was stuff like toilet paper to and we made my friend a turbin out of it. that was really fun and the pictures are great!

Thought about you today, judimouse......

Went to New Orleans to retrieve my child from his visit with his dad and we did some quick shopping in the quarter. There was one little boutique that had everything you can imagine for Red Hats!

I smiled a broad smile. :)

Have a great day!

Mae Ann,

It is so funny how everyone see's Red Hatter's these days. I can remember 2.5 years ago when no one had a clue.

It's hard to believe that the Society is now over 25,000 chapters in 18 countries.

Not sure that RCL is going to be ready for our group in Ocotber. :-)

If you can have each group get a disposable camera and make them take pictures with groups of people. I know on the cruise i just went on the kiddy club had the kids take a picture of a group of 6 guys or more. You can think of things like that and it will increase your interaction with the people on the boat. Think of random things though.

A picture or signature with someone who has the same bday as you is always a good challenge. One year i know a group came running around asking for people that had had sex on the boat already.....we had been on the boat like 2 hours and were still docked but they found a couple.

We've done many a scavenger hunts on board various ships. Try adding to the list any item with another cruise lines name. That's always a fun one! Some people will wait to get off the ship at the next port and hit up someone on shore from another ship!

one we had to do was find an item for every letter of the alphabet..things for y and x were rather hard....my grandma has an xray card that we used for x,and y we used a yam which we asked the people at hte buffet for after we saw taht tehy had something with sweet potatoes in it!

Thank you for the great ideas. I can just see a bunch of 50-70 year olds running around the ship asking couples if they have had sex yet. ROTFLMAO

Love the alphabet idea and something from another ship.

Am working on a list and will post it this weekend.

I would like all of you to give your opinions.

Thanks again for the great laughs.

Possibly you should check with RCL as I heard they banned pax from knocking on cabin doors disrupting guests for scavenger hunts. I personally would enjoy helping out with whatever I could, dont think I would give away hubby's boxers though but hey heheheeheeeee.

Break up the group into smaller groups. Give each group a digital camera. They have to take pics of every bar and get the Bar Tender to sign a card. Then they have to take a pic of a life boat (theirs), A child jumping into the pool, A man sleep/reading a book on deck. ect. Now the trick is to have one member of the team in each pic. At the end, develope the pics and make a colugage of the pics. The best colugage wins.

I've set up photo scavenger hunts where each team has a digital camera and they have to take a picture of each item on the list. I usually make the list with clues that are in the form of a rhyme or puzzles so they have to be creative. In the rhyme, I describe the item they should be looking for trying to make it as obvious as possible but sometimes they come back with something totally unexpected. When that happens, I give creativity awards for weirdest item, most bizarre, smallest, etc...

I've always wanted to do a big scavenger hunt on the cruise ship - we did the "family" one on our last cruise where you had to have certain people sign your sheet - a woman with more than 5 pieces of jewlery, a man with a cast, (I probably have it in my scrapbook if you want the list), etc.

A friend always does one at his weekend long parties (everyone is assigned a number 1-10 and you have to ask one person from each number- once he made his mom the ONLY #1 and everyone at the party had to go talk to her!!) He always asked things like who's your favorite performer (him - Bil Krauss!), what's the worst/best pickup line you heard this week, etc)

Great ice breakers!! --- We should have used it that night in the lounge to try to meet guys!

Anyway -

Paula Danziger has a great set of books (starting with Remember Me to Harold Square) where the kids in the book have to find out all sorts of things in NYC (in another book it is London) including some history, some trying of new foods (make everyone try escargot one night!!) and new adventures (ie ride the subway - you could have people do a tender to an island or parasail or something...) anyway - if you have a mix of ages going (it's a young adults book) I'd say read her book to get some ideas of adventures.

I would make sure they know NOT to knock on cabin doors - just look/ask in public areas...

Ok - this is really long and I hope it makes sense... I need another cup of coffee and to get out of this office!!!

Have fun!!

All of these sound like so much fun. I travel alone, but this kind do game would really get me involved.

How about x# nationality pins? Specify not same as your own family's. Eg 3 different countries, continents, languages cities, flags ...

Names starting with same first/last initials? these sort of encourage interaction beyond your group. Guess your game plan will depend on the other objectives besides having fun.

I like the idea of having to get (with permission) something from each area of the ship. That promotes learning the ship's layout, a good safety precaution, as is a picture of their own muster station or life boat.

Time limit also important. Why not two kinds, a 2 hour and a week long list.

But, if you want the family to really interact, then the idea about interviewing each other for life motto, best memory, school embarrassment, first boy/girl friend, job, christmas memory, ambition, trip, or "who has the ... (longest hair, green eyes, false teeth ...'

I've had passengers apprach me during treasure hunts. Have always enjoyed the interaction. Wish I was going on your cruise. :D

Did one on the last Carnival cruise we were on, these are some things we had to find (it was pretty hard!):

> T-shirt from another Carnival ship

> Partridge in a pear tree

> A towel animal

> A feather

> A piece of chocolate

> A picture of a dog

> A picture of the ship

> Name of the captain

> Name of the dance director

> A staff member's name badge

> A bowtie on each team member when you arrive back.

Thought of some other fun ones to add:

> A size 32A bra

> A size 40DD bra

> A woman's polka dot bikini

> 5 different foreign coins

> 3 different matchbooks

> 5 business cards

> A shrimp
