shipboard credits

Hi, wondering if anyone is familar with using shipboard credits to pay for gratuities? we are going on the dawn nov 26th and would like to use part of our shipboard credits to pay for the tips. Is this possible.

It all depends. Read what it says on the credit conditions (small print) if it says there are no restrictions.....then fine. If it says can not be used for gratuities...then no:)

We just received our doc's for 10-29 Spirit. We negotiated a 50 pp credit. Should it be somewhere on them?

We had OBC on our last cruise and it didn't appear on any of our pre-cruise documentation. It did appear on our shipboard account though.

The only credits that can be used to pay the service charge is the type of credit given that people pay for. In other words, if somebody called NCL and bought a $100 credit for you, that is just as good as cash on your onboard account. Promotional onboard credits can not be used for service charges or in the casino. Hope this helps...

That is my understanding as well. :)

Early in your cruise, I would make sure the onboard credit actually appears on your account. We received a $25 credit when we booked our 10-7-06 NCL Dawn cruise. When we got our bill the last morning, the credit was not on it. Someone at the purser's desk then told my husband it was too late to make an adjustment so we needed to talk to our TA when we got home.

Our TA called NCL and both agreed we should have received the $25 credit. NCL only wanted to apply it to our next cruise so our TA issued us a check and plans to deal with NCL at the end of the year with "all the cruise line’s mistakes."

when we got to our room, we had a small form to sign. when i turned the form into the purser's desk, she told me the credit was on the on-board account, but they needed our signature for records. the form stated that we had a $50 credit. since it was applied to the total of our account, you could say it paid for an excursion.

In all honestly, I can't imagine anyone having no charges on their onboard account, therefore, how would a minimal OBC be an issue when it comes to their assessed $10.00 PP daily gratuity? If a passenger had a $100.00 OBC, and spent NADA on a 10 day cruise, I can't imagine NCL asking for any additional cash to cover the obligatory gratuity. However, if the same passenger charged $500.00 in the bars, or shorex office, what difference would the $100.pp OBC make? You would owe for the excursions, bar bill and the gratuity. You've got to pay it all, so either you pay for the drinks, the shore excursions, or the gratuity, but you saved $100.00! Forgive me if I missed the point of your post.:o

Yes they would. We were on the Dawn the week after it was hit by the "wave." It ended up being a six day cruise instead of 7. Everyone was give 1/7 of their cruise back. Everyone was also given an OBC. These both appeared on the on board account. Only the 1/7 could be used for gratuities. In the end some people were mad because they still had a credit balance, but owed additional money.

Not a problem for us, our spending was in excess of everything, as usual.:)
