Sandi149 Posted January 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Hi folks. On my cruise there will be 2 formal nights. I want to know if the first one or the last one is more formal than the other, or are they about the same? Thanks. :D
Grits53 Posted January 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2007 I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think since the first formal night is the Captain's party, it would be the "most formal" of the two.

bcb241 Posted January 13, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Formal nights on both the Glory and Liberty were the same. Perhaps more folks showed up for the first formal night just because it was early on in the cruise but other than that, they were identical. Knights on the Beach Posted January 13, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2007 They both should be the same, but on some cruises we've noticed more people were dressed up on the first formal night than on the second. It was pretty even on the Legend last month.
woodman Posted January 13, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Formal is formal what else can we say?
chitown cruisers Posted January 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2007 I think the Captain's dinner is more formal...it has the past guest party prior to and Lobster/Fillet is served......these other factors make it the bigger of the two (in my opinion). I wore my main Tux accesories for the first night (tie, cumberbund, and suspenders)..........the more relaxed vest and long tie for the second. cuyahoga11 Posted January 13, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Sandi, you are in for a real treat. That 2 night cruise you did was just an apetizer for what is coming up. Have a great time.
salty dingo Posted January 13, 2007 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2007 The first formal night, the "Captain's Gala" dinner, will be the most extravagant. This will be preceded by the free cocktail party, and lots of formal picture taking. Enjoy!!
hdawson Posted January 13, 2007 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Correction (I think). Lobster is served on the second formal night.
suzy1212 Posted January 13, 2007 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Correction (I think). Lobster is served on the second formal night. Lobster is served on the first formal night. The first formal night seems to be a little more "formal" on the Conquest. Probably because the second formal night is on a port day.
Caliber1 Posted January 13, 2007 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2007 I thought the first formal night was a little more formal than the 2nd as well. And on both of our 7 day cruises, lobster was on the first formal night as well.
katiecat Posted January 13, 2007 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2007 The first formal night you meet the Captain and they served Lobster that was on the Miracl anyway last week.

chitown cruisers Posted January 13, 2007 #18 Share Posted January 13, 2007 would it be ridiculous if I ordered 5 plates of lobster tail?? :p :p not to mention the crab leg appetizer one night.... might have to make that my dinner!! on the Triumph I ordered 2 Lobster tail and a prime rib (skipped salad that night)....when our wonderful waiter Victor asked if anyone needed anything else.........I jokingly said to...."look around the kitchen for any plates going unclaimed, that I wouldn't wany any to go to waste"........he brought out 2 more tails and another prime rib. So because of his efforts I had 4 tails and 2 p-rib. For the record I normally don't do this at every meal, so get the HUGE FAT GUY image out of your mind LOL. funlady&bama Posted January 13, 2007 #19 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Sadly over the past 15 years, the "formal nights" have become far from formal. No longer do the cruises require Tuxedos for men on formal nights, which is a shame. I have seen many men wearing just a sport coat and a tie for the formal events. candigirl41 Posted January 13, 2007 #20 Share Posted January 13, 2007 It seems to me the first formal is more so because of the Captains cocktail party, this is different than the past guest party, which is held at different times on different ships. Hope this helps. Candi
funlady&bama Posted December 5, 2007 #21 Share Posted December 5, 2007 The cruise lines have gone from class to blue collar. On my first cruise 30 years ago on Princess it was coat and tie every night for dinner and a tux REQUIRED for formal night. Then came dark suit, now just a tie on some will do. Our 19 year old daughter was even let down by the dress of the other guest.
