Anyone have any info on 7229 on Carnival Miracle? There's a lot of white space above it and to the one side, from what it sounds like this is bad? Can anyone confirm? Perhaps I'll just bring some ear plugs, just in case!

on this class of ship it really is hard to determine what is a public nusaince area--an area that is used by cabin stewards.

On this deck plan-- you can see an area that looks like an empty area but it is soemthing else-

look at deck 5--aft- across from 5268 that is where the laundry room is.

that long white area right there-- are crew access stairs.

there is a linen closet next to 6234

I am looking at an oceanview on the Spirit, for an Alaska sailing. On the website it mentions a window or french doors with railing. Do the doors open - are you able to pop your head out and at least get a little fresh air?

These are the listed vacant cabins on riviera deck. 1208

Location: Outside, Mid, Port Room #: 1205

Location: Outside, Mid, Starboard Room #: 1210

Location: Outside, Mid, Port Room #: 1209

Location: Outside, Mid, Starboard Room #: 1136

Location: Outside, Mid, Port Room #: 1137

Location: Outside, Mid, Starboard Room #: 1212

Location: Outside, Mid, Port Room #: 1211

Location: Outside, Mid, Starboard Room #: 1128

Location: Outside, Mid, Port Room #: 1129

which would you go with? Sorry for taking up so much space with this.

I am wondering if there are doing away with the opened french doors. The doors did open for fresh air but nothing else- life boats are in the way of almost a lot of them. (for an alaskan cruise-- a view is important)

Oceanview room-- the windows dont open at all.

just because these are cabin # you see that doesnt mean thats your choices. there could be more available

we had 1211 on the Legend-- it was perfect.

I think Rule of thumb would be look at the deck plans ... never stay under the theater .. especially under the stage ..

under lido deck where deck parties are if you go to bed early ..

I pick cabins that have cabins above and below and away from a lot of traffic .. on the carnival Conquest series I like those 9202 and 9203 cabins .. you pay for 4 G but get larger cabins with windows overlooking ships forward balcony and they have huge bathrooms that are not step ups since they are handicap cabins. And you can take advantage of that forward balcony that hardly anyone visits for private wonderful views entering and leaving ports .. Now I just have to figure out how to get lounge chairs there .. lol

They still have the cabins, they are the same, just been reclassified. Now the only 5As on any Carnival ship are port hole cabins. They just made the high category inside cabins now instead of low category OVs. Better as now its possible to get a free upgrade into one.

Its just the 5As on spirit class ships they reclassified.

Thanks for the help, Serene and Firefly. I was so excited about this Alaska round trip from seattle on Carnival until I saw the sailing is for 2010! I guess I am looking at HA or Celebrity for now.

I keep reading how important it is to have a window or balcony on the alaska cruises, & I'm sure it's a nice thing to have. I just wonder if I'm really going to want to be watching that view from the cabin or if it's better to be walking around on a deck. I guess it's good to feel like you aren't missing something good even when you have to be in your cabin.

I was told that the main reason you want a balcony is so you can hear the galciers calving when you are cruising by at night. I have never heard to just get a window, folks told me if no other time get a balcony for Alaska because you want to hear the ice crack off. Spirit with those french door cabins would have been perfect, so you could see and hear, no matter if you cant sit out on those closed off kinda balconys.

I grew up in northern Ohio, so far I cant get excited about a cold cruise. I love the warm islands too much.

Having grown up in this area with lots of trees, cold, water & the little islands on the sound - I've always been kind of "eh" on the idea of an Alaska cruise. Main reason I am considering it is out of seattle I won't need airfare. We get alaska, couple day pacific northwest cruises & or the other end of the spectrum - occasional transpacific / panama canal or world cruises. Wish I could take advantage of those but not for now!

There is a heavy metal door next to the cabin for pilots to get in and out of the ship every time when the ship docks and leaves.

They will come in about an hour before docking and leave an hour after sailing away.

See the picture below: (The cabin is to the right.)

The whole story about the cabin:

Has anyone ever stayed on the Empress deck on the Glory, aft? We have cabins 7418 and 7422, and wondered about the sun and breeze back there. It looks like there's an overhanging part of the ship (Lido deck I think) a couple decks up. Just wondering if that obstructs the sun at all, and if we will get much breeze back there. Never been aft before!

Yes- you will get breeze on any side cabin.

As for the sun=-- depends on what way you are heading.

When we sailed on the Liberty we got sun coming back and shade heading down.

Your balcony doesnt have room for lounge chairs but you will have two chairs out there. The empress deck is a highly sought after deck since it is away from public areas. The "overhang" on the lido deck will not affect anything on your balcony.

HI All! Taking my first cruise on the Valor in Sept. Actually won the cruise for both of us along with several other consultants so hubby and I are excited!

Looking at the layout of the Valor it seems the Upper Deck rooms may be a good choice since the Empress Deck is above it so there shouldn't be any major noises like what you would hear if under the promenade deck??

Just trying to have some idea of rooms to request when we can. I am sticking with an inside room since I know we will be excited to just roam the ship and be outside. Will take the advice here and try and get one that is surrounded by other rooms and not near the back of the ship due to the anchor.

Anything else I should be looking for?

many thanks!!:)

uh, the anchor is located in the front (forward)

We have stayed on the aft many many times.

The best deck IS the Empress deck because you will be away from public areas.

On the upper deck- you will be above something. If you are picking a room on the upp er deck-- avoid the starboard side (right) around the midship elevators- below is the casino bar-- there is a band that sets up right across the hall from the bar that starts playing around 9pm.

stay away from being ontop of a stage area of a lounge room.

if looking for the perfect cabin- good location with cheaper price..

stay as close to the aft (back)elevator without going past.

the aft is on the bottom of the deck plans.

Inside rooms start on the Riveria deck- which is one of the quietest decks around.

You want to avoid being under the galley area. (dining room is ok since it is carpets.

Avoid being under any kitchen area---like the pizzeria which is opened 24 hours a day. Avoid the pool area or you willhear chairs scraping.

The riveria is the cheapest deck-- as you go higher you pay more. the higher you go the more you sway.

Sept is prime time PEAK hurricane season.

Anyone been in room 8357(a 1a I believe) on the Conquest? To me, it looks bigger than most on that deck. Let me know about the stairs and the elevator and maybe noise from the upper deck. Thanks, kmbb

family members had this cabin on the empress deck--didnt hear nothing from the elevators-- the room is not bigger--it just feels that way since it only has one bed and an upper bed.

Someone posted then had a 1a in the general vacinity on the Valor but it has two beds on the floor

I was wondering which aft stateroom on the Valor would be the best choice. We can select either 8459, 8454, 8452, 6456, 6458, or 6489.

What about noise? Thanks to anyone that can help us make an informed decision:)

6458/6489 are in the middle- there is a metal portition instead of a divider beween the cabins. These cabins are also more narrower--(ok about a foot- there is not sofa except for a chair.

Ion deck 6 I would take 6456. (dont worry about the lounge-- you wont hear nothing since the cabin sits over the sitting area and away from the stage area.

deck 8 could get noise from chairs scrapping.

We just returned from the 7 day Bahamas/ Fl cruise out of Charleston on the Majesty. The AB cabin ( suite ) 912 was disappointing so if you have the chance to change your reserved cabin, I would suggest you do so. This is the cabin that has rust and mildew ( black ) marks all along the rim of the tub and along the floor and it really looks pretty bad. WHY they don't just recaulk it for a small expense is beyond me. The hot water situation is also disconcerting. You really have to let it run for 5 full minutes before the water gets hot if not even warm. We called a couple of times re: this issue but then the water would begin to get hot. ( it did get cold while I was in the middle of taking a shower ) Take a shower in the morning after you have run the water for 5 min. We also called because of rusty water and they said to just let it run as that happens when they change tanks.
