Shoreguy, just wanted to say thanks for your postings. After having been on more than 70 plus 'traditional' cruises we are dong the Dawn on June 30th.

I will admit to being quite apprehensive because of some of the readings on thiis board, but you have put my mind at ease. I'm sure our little group of 24 will thoroughly enjoy themselves. We are in Cabin 8676, can you tell me if this is an aft cabin.

Thanks again and looking forward to the rest of your postings.

On our way back to NYC – No rain in any port – just a nearly “excellent” cruise. The sun is pouring onto my balcony – and Ray Rey was pouring great drinks at the Bimini Bar for the last couple hours with an even better attitude. I will try and catch up with the cruise details over the next couple of sea days.

We did the Virgin Gorda Highlights and Baths today. Should now be called the Baths tour. 3rd time I have done the tour but the first time we did not load at the pier or from the ship and the first time all we did was get of the ferry and just go direct to the Baths with no highlight tour. That aside the tour was perfect for the limited time in port. Off the Dawn before 7 am. On our way to Virgin Gorda by 7:30am. Having climbed thru the caves several times we took a different route at the Baths this time. It was great. We took the long trail to the left direct to Devils Bay instead of the normal trail direct to the Baths. The long trail took 15 minutes is in fact easier then the other trail. We were the first folks on the beach this morning and waited for the first to arrive thru the caves. Back up the long trail and the ndown the normal path for pictures of the Baths. Back up to the top and Bushwakers for breakfast at Mad Dogs. 10:30 am shuttle back to the Ferry. Departed Virgin Gorda about 11:15 ( All aboard is 11:30 am a good reason for using an NCL tour for this trip). Walked up the gangway at 11:53 am for a 12 noon departure. Perfect.

Still owe you all updates from Beno , La trattoria J , and last night my first disappointment with Teppanyaki.

General comments – Jimmy the CD is very good. Not over the top but a lot of positive energy. The videos he did with tours of the crew area, galley, and engine room that play onboard are excellent.

Ok back to the bar – later.

I hope you have met my DD and her DH, Christie & Ray from Massachusetts.

I spoke with them (the Wolffs) while the Dawn was docked in San Juan. She told me the ship doctor put her on amoxicillin for a sore throat. I sure hope she was feeling better for the second leg of the cruise. If you come across them, please let me know.

We were ill on our western caribbean cruise last year at this time. It is sad when you wait all year for an event like this and then get ill just when you are sailing away. At least I was only sick for half of our cruise.

I do give NCL high marks for all the hand sanitizers onboard. Other cruiselines are really lacking in this area. NCL is defintely my favorite winter cruiseline.

Well, Shoreguy, just kick back and relax for those last two sea days. Hope you have luck in the casino. You'll be back at work before you know it.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the Japanese Restaurant. We loved the steak terriyaki and tempura on NCL Star. DH thought it was the best cruiseline food he ever had. The steak terriyaki was not what I expected--but it was delicious. Hope you have nice warm weather and calm seas for the ride home. Weather is looking comfortable for Thursday (40).

Shoreguy: I know you're in a suite, so don't have first hand info since you have Claudio -- can you find out if they have changed the policy on the Dawn re: specialty restaurant reservations? Can you make them for the whole cruise, or just "tonight and tomorrow night?" We are gold latitudes members, so do have access to concierge, but don't want to bug Claudio if we don't have to -- he's got enough on his plate!

Thanks!:p

80 F racing back to NYC at 21.7 Knots which seems to be the current top speed of the Dawn. This morning we were only running at 18 Knots

Good afternoon – First I better provide my update on Teppanyaki since I have already been asked onboard this morning what the issues were. First it was a usual great food. The disappointment was two fold. First the company. Four of use went to dinner together. They hd added extra seats to the long side of the table and I was stuck at the end with part of my tray oringally hanging off the table. The problem I was as staring right into the side of the persons head around the corner. He felt my service tray was the coaster for his drinks. As seated and with the noise form Gatsby’s it was impossible to hold a converstion with the folks I came with. The food service was a bit spotty. The cook was nice enough but with the number of people and different orders some of us were finished before others had even gotten their main course. A good meal but not up the the highest standards I have experienced on prior NCL cruises.

La Teattoria – A pleasant surprise – First time eating there in 7 cruises on the Dawn. I always had a problem in principle eating dinner in what is half the buffet the rest of the Day. In fact they do a good job converting the space. Not the charm of the newer ships like the Jewel with Mama’s. I live in NJ and great Italian food is available in 1000s of places. That said the food was very good, not great but for what it is a worth making a reservation for. I had a Snapper dish that I would normally never order and I really enjoyed it. The fact is I had tasted it earlier that evening when friend who had ordered in to the OS insisted I try it. Carpaccio excellent, Calamari light batter and not over cooked. Service was very good and once again the officers were visible with Calvin Lodge the HD stopping by tables and making sure everyone was “excellent”.

Beno – Dominica, a real gentleman who loves his island and more importantly his family. As some of you have read on the boards his mom passed away while visiting NYC recently. If you tour with him condolences are greatly appreciated he his still working to get over the loss. On the bright side his oldest daughter is the top student in the best high school on the island.

The tour itself was very good. The island is beautiful. Off the ship at 9 am, ask anyone where Beno is – everyone knows him and his contagious smile. We did a private tour and reserved the whole van for folks on the roll call. It ran use $50 pp with only 10 in a van the holds 14. Plenty of room. Lots of not easy walking on the tour. We went to The Emerald Pool – a rocky hike down and back to witness the beauty of nature ruined by 100s of people swimming and yelling in delight under the falls. From there a ride thru the plantation areas of the island then off to Trafalgar Falls, a nice restaurant for lunch (flying fish sandwich, chicken and mango salad. Back to the ship before 3 pm.

New it was going to be a great day in Dominica when this two Dolphins greeted us as we entered the harbor and cruised along for several minutes right under my balcony.

Martini clinic in 30 minutes.

Not sure what is but once again last night some guy wanted to have a fight with me last night in the casino. Just cashed in and got out of Dodge. Booze is a remarkable drug. The best part my son went back later and watched the drunken idiot loose over $1000.

shoreguy-I really appreciate the updates. I look forward to sailing the Dawn someday (probably in Miami, but who know how itineraries can change) and a lot of the reason I hope to do it is due to you.

BTW-Cecilia will probably kill me for asking, but with the changes allowing jeans in the dining rooms, have you noticed many doing so? And (in your opinion) has it affected the ambiance of the rooms?

BTW-Cool dolphin photo!

enjoy

Can open...worms everywhere. :) BTW...I wore jeans again today. We ate lunch at the food court in the mall. I do believe I'm starting to see a pattern. ;)

Sorry Cecilia, I'm just wondering if the change in policy has resulted in a significant change in behavior.

BTW-Cecilia,

If you think this could trigger another "squabble", please delete these postings. Believe me, I don't want to go through that again either :D

thanks

ITINERARY CHANGE INFORMATION

Dear Valued Travel Partners & Guests,

NCL has important information for you regarding Norwegian Dawn’s March 1, 2007 sailing from New York. Travel

given the speed limitations, we plan to revise the itinerary as noted below, scheduling a call to Samana, Dominican

Republic and omitting the call to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. Please be assured that the engine issues reducing our

speed capabilities in no way impact the safe operation of the vessel.

Original itinerary: Revised itinerary:

Friday at sea

Saturday at sea

Sunday San Juan, PR 2:00pm to 11:00pm

Monday Tortola 8 - 6 (same)

Tuesday Philipsburg, St Maarten (same)

Wednesday St. Thomas 8 - 5

Thursday Samana, Dominican Republic 1-4

Saturday at Sea

Sunday NYC 10am

While we are looking forward to having you on board for what we believe will be a memorable and enjoyable cruise, in

light of these changes, should you prefer to reschedule your cruise, we will extend a future cruise credit with no penalty for

the cruise fare paid, valid on any of our ships from now until December 2007

.

We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, and appreciate your understanding in this matter. Thank

you for your continued support of NCL.

Sincerely,

Robert P. Thye, Jr.
