Live from the Spirit !!!

We were on the Spirit with Fred & Wendy (and many of our other cruise critic friends). It was so great to meet everyone and I love the group photo.

We were on the Empress deck, cabin 6194 which is right across from the glass elevators. We only heard people one night, so the cabin was really quiet and very nice. It was a balcony cabin.

We really felt there were very few kids on the cruise UNTIL we went to the Mexican Fiesta party up on the Lido Deck!!! Oh my gosh, there must of been 200 there alone dancing and having fun. Yes, we joined right in with the dancing too and had a great time. It was my 55th birthday that day and I enjoyed every minute of it!!!. The kids were pretty well behaved until the sea days. Then we saw a few spawled out in front of stairways and blocking elevators. Not horrible, but great either. Also LOTS of running down the halls, up the stairs by a few of the kids the two sea days.

Decks of cards: If you want a deck of cards, they are no longer for sale in the gift shop (or weren't on this cruise). They can be purchased in the casino for $1. Bring cash. If you want it charged to your Sail N Sign card the minimum charge is $20 and they give you the $19 in coin. Also if you do cash to the Sail N Sign card, there is a 3% service fee.

$7.95 Cakes: My husband ordered a cake (chocolate/Chocolate) to be delivered to our dining room table the night of my birthday. The cake was beautifully decorated and tasted WONDERFUL. It was one of the best desserts we had on the cruise. Rich and gooey. We were at a table for two (not our choice, just happened). We each had a small piece, shared with 2 other tables (4 more slices) and there was still cake left. We asked the waiter if he would like to have it and was it OK for him to take it ... he said YES to both. We knew we didn't have room for another bite. The other choice of cake was vanilla with strawberry marmalade ... didn't get to try that flavor but sounded good.

$3.75 Chocolate dipped strawberries: YUMMMMMMM We received a plate of these as a boarding gift from the Carnival Vacation Club. They were huge and tasted so good. They looked like berries dressed in tuxedos. We ordered some for a friend and there were $3.75 delivered for 5 of them. Later in the cruise we got 5 at the cafe (deck 2) that serves speciality coffee and desserts. $3.45 for 5 of them there. I'm sure the extra 30 cents was for room service tip on the ones we had delivered. Berries were all gone/unavailable for sale as of the last sea day.

Desserts: Hit/Miss as far as taste. Just not the "sweet" we are use too.

Food: Most was very good. Lots of choices. The deli on Lido is not to be missed. They make GREAT sandwiches. In the dining room: Beef Wellington, Filet Mignon, Salmon, Prime Rib (cooked to any specification didn't have to be rare) were all really good.

Supper Club: Oh my gosh, this was the first time we went and it was worth every penny. It was wonderful. They also have live entertainment and a dance floor. We sat by the window and had a beautiful ocean view. Next time tho, we would like to sit by the dance floor so we could see the singer and watch people dance. Maybe even dance a bit ourselves. It was really neat that just as we finished dinner, the singer sang Ann Murray's "Can I Have this Dance". It was played at our wedding over 20 years ago and is a very special song to us.

Had a wonderful time. This is our 2nd cruise on the Spirit and will be going again in the fall with family to Acapulco. Highly recommend this ship.

La Paz is a great place to stay for a week or longer , I have stayed there a few times. I went to Playa El Tecolote 2 years ago on the Ryndam , the beach had a lot of damage from a storm. It looks like the beach is back to the way it used to be white sand and beautiful.

Do you or anyone know if there is an all inclusive food/drinks package offered at any hotels on this beach? My group will be on this same itinerary next April and would be intested in parking ourselves somewhere on a beach with good food, drinks and the water.. AHHHH relax!!

Hi, the only All food/drink package we had was with Mazatlan Frank in Mazatlan, we ended up at the Playa Mazatlan Hotel, they have a very nice Pool and a killer beach, you can even Parasail, Jetski right from this beach. It also came with a great meal. The food and drinks were awesome, I had the Carne Asada Plate "Steak Strips" with came with Rice Beans and also a chicken taco. We had the Guacmole and chips before the meal came out. Wendy had the Rice with Shrimp which I scuffed up because she wasn't as hungry. It was alot of food and very tasty too. We didn't get sick at all here. I will post a picture of this place and where we ate soon.

This was called City and Resort Tour Hotel Playa Mazatlan. Price is 55.00 pp and it was 7 hours long. We went in a Air Conditioned Van with a family of 5, the picture of the Cathedral that I posted eariler was from ths tour.

If you do not want to go on this long tour, Just take a taxi to the Playa Mazatlan hotel and enjoy your stay there. The food is well worth it

Found the Menu:

Guacamole

Classic avocado dip with tomatoes, onions, chiles, and a blend of spices. Served with fresh tortilla chips.

Carne Asada a la Tampiquena

Marinated choice strip streak, grilled over an open flame. Served with a chicken taco and cheese enchilada, fresh guacamole and ranchera salsa.

Camarones al Mojo de Ajo

Jumbo shrimp, delicately sautéed in butter, fresh garlic and herbs.

Great Review MilliesMom, can't wait to go cruising with you again. I agree 100% with you about Nouveau Supper Club, it was the best Supper Club I have been too and I mean in Service, Food and Atmosphere. We are glad we went.

Thanks for the info Fred. I already have a tour with King David over to Stone Island in Mazatlan for the day. We did his tour in 2004 and loved every minute of it. It too have unlimited drinks and a awesome Mexican lunch on the beach.

Looks like we will just have eat/drink our way from beach to beach in La Paz.

Wendy....I LOVED that picture. It's my desktop at work now! Everyone in the office was oooohing and aaaaaahing over the parasailing and the beach. I know it's a ways off....but think you and Freddy might consider the Acapulco/Ixtapa/Manzanillo run in Jan or Feb of '09??? cruisinchick and Neptune's Goddess are thinking about it also. I think it would be a blast for all of us to go!

Anyways......welcome home. Glad you had a great cruise!

So, when in 2009 are we all doing this cruise?? What DAY are we leaving?? We'll be there!!

'' Unlimited Drinks'' Was it just beer or hard alcohol? I heard there was no hard alcohol on Stone Island.

Linda ... the itinerary we had this last week is a once a year itinerary in April for the Spirit ... Cabo San Lucas, Mazatland, and LaPaz. From end of October to April the Spirit does Acapulco, Manzillo, and Ixtapa (spelling may be incorrect). Then does Hawaii and then Alaska.

Just checked ... next year the LaPaz itinerary will be on April 6 AND April 13th. Here's the link for details:

We have done the Acapulco one too and it is great!!!!

David Our Stone Island tour had Corona, rum and coke & rum punch, soda & water . An choice of lunch entree's of chicken, fish or quesadilla along with beans and rice all really good. Choice of 2 tours from, horseback ride, donken pulled cart ride thru village, banana boat, snorkeling or boggie boards. All for a unbelieveable price of about 40. per. They taught us local games, while on the beach plus the tour thru the harbor to see the Mexican iceberg, and a few other points of interest on the ride over to SI. The way back we were entertained by the crew with song and dance. We also got the "Full Monte" (remember this was in 2004.

If anyone is interested you can email me for the web site or you can join us next April...

Hey Vicky,

Well, we have some bad news. We won't be able to go with you on this Cruise. We have had some "developments" since we have been home. We are going to be buying a house in Las Vegas ( Henderson ). This is going to hamper our "2 Cruise a Year" cruising for a while because we are going to have to spend a lot of time between San Diego and Vegas.

Wendy and I have done every single Mexican Cruise in the past two years. We are burnt out with Mexico. We have been looking at an Alaska Cruise in late summer 2009 for our 10th Wedding Anniversary. Not sure if it will be with Carnival or with RCCL.

We are very sorry, but Mexico is done with us.

We just found this thread... NOW we know what you were up to while we were cruising. Wendy mentioned you posting, but we had no idea!!!

We had a great trip. The Spirit is great! We had our balconies opened up. We had the deck 4 port side/aft wrap around balcony suite and our kids had a connecting balcony cabin... We ended up with almost half the back of the ship being our balcony. It was fabulous! We had the same combination of rooms on The Spirit trip to Alaska too.

We did waverunners and the Mango Deck in Cabo...

Randi's Happy Horses on Stone Island in Mazatlan (highly recommend.)

and a great kayaking/snorkling excursion with BOA in La Paz. Again, highly recommend....

Thanks for organizing the CC Roll Call gathering. It was great to meet everyone. It made it fun to know some folks right off the bat....

So, how come you haven't posted the photo I took of both you and Wendy on formal night? You both looked great!

Glad you found us here !!!, I will be posting those pictures soon and also emailing yours tomorrow.

Looks like you had more fun then we did at those ports of call.

I didn't get off the ship in Cabo to meet you guys because I was all tore up... that night heading into Cabo was one of the roughest times, lots of Motion and Swaying. We were on deck 8, it really does make a difference, the Motion is intensified up there. So because I couldn't get any sleep I was so tired that Cabo Morning, I was able to stay in touch with Wendy via our Walkie Talkies and I was able to take those pictures of her Parasailing from Lido Deck.

As you see, Organizing a Roll Call isn't that hard but with every cruise we make it better. Now I know that if we are not doing a extended balcony party, we can have our second meet down at the Atrium. Also we need to discuss it in the Roll Call Thread as to where to meet on the second Meet.

It was nice getting to know you guys, we have to do it again.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my Live from the Spirit Thread. I currently don't have the links of those pictures up yet. Im just starting to get the pictures organized and stitched up so that I can upload them and post them in separate threads like the Spirit Chocolate Buffet thread I started today. If you say you are cruising with MilliesMom, then you are in good hands, she is a cool fun person.

If you have any questions, ask away as the Spirit is one of my Favorite ships.:)

Hi you all! We'll be on the Spirit for the 1/17/08 sailing and was wondering about the piano bar. We were on the Carnival Pride (sister ship to the SpiritI) about five years ago and had a blast in the piano bar. Is the one on the Spirit lively? Do folks go to it? Any thoughts on it? Thanks, Marilyn
