It looks like Carnival changed the beverage policy again!

The water they use for onboard purchase, is crystal geyesr, and I don't like that kind... I like AquaFina or Arrowhead, or fruit flavored water, which I will be brining. I'm also going to buy a soda card. I'm also gonna order on average of 4 Foo Foo Drinks per day.

I just got docs on Monday for my 5/10 cruise, and the old policy is still on them. I have 4 bottles of wine I want to bring with me for dinner, none of which is sold on the ship. I wonder what they'd say to me about it when the contract I have still shows the old policy?

Guess I'll find out in 29 days. :D

There was a post just the other day about Costa Maya (I think) and leather whips (seriously) and merchants knowingly selling them even though they wouldn't be allowed onboard. .

Yah and in Cayman Islands, they sell plastic pirate swords to the little kids, they get taken away everytime.

The merchants don't care what happens after you pay them.

To me, smuggling is just the opposite. I find it a pain to either have to walk to the bar or order from room service when I want a drink on my balcony. I want it, I make it, I drink it.

Now when out and about the ship, I buy what the ship offers. No way I'm walking back to my room just to get a drink. We drank a little less than 1/2 of what we brought. My S&S was still around 1,000 for the week.

So regardless of what some want to say here (cheapskate, criminal...whatever), I smuggle as a matter of convenience to me. It's my vacation, my smuggling hurts nobody, and Carnival still gets a fair profit.

ditto.

BTW..I think the people who complain about smuggling all have inside cabins.

I myself do not carry on soda/water... the water they have on the ship is just fine and soda i rarely drink anyways! So for those that bring that on, I really can't understand. If someone drinks that much soda, then buying a soda card prob will suit them. I like to mix some drinks in the cabin so a bottle of alcohol always comes with me... If I need juice/soda to mix it with, I will just use what's in the room or order room service. It's that simple. I'm not the type that will go back to the cabin everytime I need a refill LOL... thats just crazy But if I could possibly cut my bar tab in half why not?!?! More $$ for me to spend on excursions :D

So let me get this right......You will just use what's in the room or order room service for pop or water..But you smuggle booze in and you feel this is OK?

I think bringing a certain pop you like when it's allowed is fine.. But you don't... But taking a bottle alcohol hidden in you luggage is OK?

I usually don't get to into debating this stuff..But when do we all just start following the rules.. It seems now a days the laws and rules only are followed when we like them.

I will bring myself some water and pop if they allow it.. If not I will buy it on the Ship and bring it to my room so it's there when I want it..

My drinks will be bought when I'm up on a deck that sells them!!

I don't really care whether someone hides booze or not. But why do the same people have a hard time with bringing pop and water.... When ii's not against the rules?

Have a nice day,

Carla

I think if Carnival goes back to the original rules, we smugglers should heave a big sigh of relief. If you want to smuggle in your suitcase, go ahead. But I honestly think bringing on a cooler or carrying a carton of beer in plain site is a slap in the face to them. Maybe this is why they adopted this new policy to begin with. I am NOT going to get into a debate over right and wrong. I smuggle for the simple reason that it is nice to have a drink in my cabin/on my balcony without calling room service and/or hunting down a bar. I also drink wine spritzers. I enjoy my Carlo Rossi $8.99 for a 4 L bottle of wine mixed 1/2 with lemon lime soda. I have been on many cruises and they charge me for a FULL GLASS OF PREMIUM WINE for a wine spritzer. We recruit plenty of people to go on cruises with us, spend plenty of $ at the various bars around the ship, leave a few months mortgage $ in the casino  and give the gift shops lots of business too. I refuse to feel guilty for pre-mixing my wine spritzers at home and putting them in my suitcase. But I have gotten enough gray hair after reading about the "new policy" and maybe it's time we all just tone it down a bit??? ;)

I think you can relax.

I firmly believe this whole supposed new beverage policy was just Carnival crying "WOLF" during Spring Break in an attempt to tone things down.`(in light of the people falling overboard etc.)

Now that Spring Break is over, the supposed new policy is now being rescinded.

imagine that.

My brother purchased a leather rifle case in Costa Maya, no on said a word about it until we got to the airport.

I'm glad to hear the beverage policy changed. Now we can bring our sodas and water, maybe some booze.

On my cruise there were college kids who got held from getting on the ship who were bringing kegs! One woman brought 5 coolers of wine and 6 cases of beer. I think after this spring break with the policy of unlimeted wine or champage people were taking advantage. I rather have my drinks served, don't forget you can get the early bird drings on the lido deck for $2.95!!! You can't beat that.

Just spoke to Carnival. You are allowed to bring duty free liquor on board from any port but they will hold it until last day, just like every other line. You are just not supposed to take it to the stateroom. I bet they will even hold the kid's fake swords till disembarkation. They don't want the little monsters annoying other passengers. And I specifically refer to your child!

I'm trying to figure out this statement. Is it just because you're assuming that those in balconies would want to smuggle alcohol so they could enjoy it on their balconies while those who are in inside cabins wouldn't need/want smuggled alcohol just because they don't have a balcony to drink it on?

Sorry...just trying to figure it out.

LOL Never once did I say I was against it. I said I just didn't understand why people do this. The prices spent on soda and water will nowhere end up near the alcohol tab. This is why I would spend the money on the non-alcoholic drinks, but I refuse to buy every single alocholic drink from the cruise ship. Plus, like others, I too like to enjoy a drink in the cabin :D LOL And you act like you have never broken 1 rule in your entire life!!!! HA!

JDJAGUAR - I travel in an inside cabin and I have no problem with smugglers--- Hell yeah I spend less $$ on a cabin & make my drinks in my room!!! :p

Oh your right I have broken a few rules in my time (lol) .My problem is not even so much the breaking of the rules but acting like if it's alcohol it's ok but if its just pop and water then you should follow them..... I agree like others I enjoy my pop and water in my room as much (well almost as much) as the booze smugglers..

Plus I think the pop and water issuse isn't the price it's the convience of having them in my room....... I guess just like the booze is for most....

have a nice day,

Has this not been done to death. I am so sick of all these smuggling threads. Who gives a rats a** if you smuggle or not. If you get caught or not. If you are going to smuggle you run the risk of having it taken. If you don't then don't call those who do names. I am sure Carnival reads these boards and know what is coming on their ships. WHO CARES

I'll say what others have said in the past and it's so true... If you don't like the topic, don't read it :D Plain and simple!

Yes like everyone said, that has always been the policy. It appeared in your previous post you were saying something else.

Well, this is just as I thought. I did not get so caught up in all the beverage threads because I was thinking that I would ride this out. I really felt that Carnival did this because of spring break and..lo and behold, it is just 3 days past when the last spring break cruise would have sailed and Carnival's "new" beverage policy is sailing with it. Bon Voyage!

As a side note about confiscation: In Costa Maya my son bought a bright painted, carved baseball bat. That, too, was confiscated and held until the last day of the cruise.

Check out Carnival's website. It looks as though they have returned to the former beverage policy. Small amounts of non-alcoholic beverages are permitted once again! Yippeeeeeee:D

This is a shame. Back to the campground lifestyles with people pulling coolers of water with them everywhere. IT's a shame that Carnival can't succeed in getting the upgrade they are looking for in the people that sail their ships

Carnival needs to tell us "exactly" how many soft drinks are allowed, and "exactly" how many bottles of water are allowed. Obviously, people are having problems with the term "small amounts". They are very exact about how many bottles of wine are allowed, so I don't know why they don't do the same with the other beverages.

I can't believe that Carnival refuses to allow you to bring back duty free liquor to the ship as long as they hold it to the last day. The merchants on shore would be up in arms.

They do hold it until you disembark..... Ports-of-Call

Alcoholic beverages of any kind purchased in any Port-of-Call will be confiscated at the gangway, stored on board and retained by Carnival until the end of the voyage.
