Ft. Lauderdale Hotels

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Any recommendations of a decent Hotel near Port Everglades? I'm not looking to spend a fortune for 1 night, but I do want a clean room. Since we will be getting there a day before we sail, I would also appreciate ideas of things to do in Ft. Lauderdale. I hope January 5th gets here soon! :)

We stayed at the Courtyard near the airport: http://marriott.com/hotels/travel/fllht-courtyard-fort-lauderdale-airport-and-cruise-port/

It was your regular Courtyard, clean and reliable. I can't comment on their port transportation since I left from Miami last time but their airport shuttle is fine.

Sorry, I can't help you with stuff to do in Ft. Lauderdale either since my family and I met up with an old family friend. It did look like a very active downtown though. :)

Enjoy the Radiance!

Go to the beach, that is what Ft. Lauderdale is known for. You could also go to downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Their famed street is Las Olas. They have some neat shops and restaurants. Most of the restaurants offer outside dining. I always do that when I meet up with a good friend of mine. There is also the Museum of Fine Arts as well.

Have fun.

Try the Tropi Rock if you want something inexpensive, but clean. We stayed there in Dec. before cruise, had a great time. 2 blocks from beach. 8 blocks form resturants. Cab was waiting for us in the AM, $15.00 to port. Go to www.tripadvisor.com, you get get numerous ideas for hotels. Put in specific hotel name or Fort Lauderdale.

I love Ft Lauderdale - The Hollywood Marriott is right on the beach and not as pricey as the Harbour beach Marriott...They just re-did it and it is $200+ per night but it is worth it. Try to get concierge level and it will incude breakfast and apptz.

Have a look at the choices on valutrips.com- we booked the Amerisuites on 17th St FLL for $69 last summer and it was a good deal. They pick you up at the airport and take you to the pier in the am. Buffet style breakfast also provided. It's a few minutes from the beach by car or you can hop on the Sun Trolley,a free ride that will take you to downtown. They make a circuit every twenty minutes or so.

There are numerous hotels on 17th ST FLL. There's a supermarket across from the back of the hotel, liquor store and an Outback Steakhouse a couple of doors away so it's quite convenient.

I'm a local and I perfer Hollywood Beach to Ft. Lauderdale. It is less crowded and more family oriented. In winter, it is a haven for French Canadians. However, it is a little farther from shops and the action. If you are looking for a more party atmosphere, Ft. Lauderdale beach is better.

Some local Ft. Lauderdale things are:

The Jungle Queen ride

The Water Taxi

The Art District (nice Art Museum and Great kid friendly Science museum with IMAX within blocks of each other)

Hard Rock Casino. It has shops, resturants and clubs so it is a good place to visit even if you don't gamble.

Fishing Charters you can rent a boat for about 200 or go on a "party fishing boat" for about 20

Wonderful Diving and snorkeling

Shopping at Sawgrass or the galleria

Everglades Airboat ride with alligator wresting and Native American Village

These are just a few things I can think off the top of my head. Pick up a coupon book at the airport or hotel and it will help. Also, visit the city's website and it will send you some stuff.

We love visitors and try to make you feel welcome.

Heather

I'll second the Amerisuites. Good deal for your money. Great location. Always forget something and the grocery store is right there. Mexican restaurant in the parking lot connected to them.

We always stay there when we cruise out of FLL. It's only one night.

I'm appreciating this site even more now. Gotta tell you what happened earlier today while doing some research. I own a Timeshare and was on their website searching some hotels through the "Entertainment Member" section. I found a Days Inn that was listed for $2.00! I thought that it must have been a typo so I decided to go through the reservation process and see what happens. After booking it, the grand total was $4.22. I decided to check the reviews on Tripadvisor.com and once I saw the warning regarding Prostitutes and how unsafe the area was I decided that it probably wouldn't be worth the few bucks to stay there.

When I cruise I want to be as close to the port as possible to see the ships. The hotel in the link below is the Ft. Lauderdale Grande. She is a former Marriott property and is finishing up a major revitalization project due to damage from Hurricance Wilma and will be complete by the end of this year. I stayed there back in December and they were totally making this hotel over from top to bottom. The property is on the intercoastal waterway and overlooks the port. It is also on the water taxi route with a stop in front of the hotel. January is high season in south Florida so rates are going to be steep.

Too funny!

We like the Embassy Suites on 17th St. You can see the ships from there. Free cocktail party in the evening ( might as well start early). Free full breakfast in the morning- oh boy, more food! Free shuttle to pier too.

Cruisingator2~ I went to the luxuryresorts website. I was trying to find out the rates. I got all the way till you put your credit card number and there weren't any rates to be found.

I got the FLL Grande on Hotwire for $109 including all taxes. Last time I checked it was going for less than that for my dates.

We got the Renaissance for $113 plus tax on hotwire. We loved it...very close to port.

Another vote for the Renaissance...Used hotwire for the first time and got it same price or $1.00 more..Put in 3 star downtown Ft. Lauderdale and 9 times out of 10 you will get Renaissance...Later, Jill:cool:

I know the one you are talking about. Hey, don't worry, it is only blocks away from the police station and the 4 bucks a night is compreable to the cost of the Salvation Army across the street. Think of it as an adventure.

The Days Inn at the Bahia Mar is right across from the beach and much nicer.

Actually, all of the other choices are excellent. I do recommend anything you can pick up the water taxi on, it is a lot of fun.

I drove past the port this Saturday and it was lonely. Only one Princess ship in, usually there are at least 10 ships in. Everyone must have repositioned already.

Y'all come back, soon.:o

It's comforting to know that the Police Station is only 4 blocks away. How many Prostitutes do you think I will come across during my trek from Days Inn to the Station? I think I'll save all the adventures for the ship and ports. ha ha What if I try Hotwire and they stick me in that same Days Inn?

So many choices to choose from. I'm sure whichever of the recommendations I go with, I will be happy.
