Here's a few to share from the past couple of years!

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico docks and harbor at night, from the upper decks of Radiance of the Seas:

P&O Arcadia fading to the horizon at sunset, after exiting Philipsburg, St. Maarten as shot from my aft balcony on the Radiance of the Seas:

Watching the sunset from the bow of the Radiance of the Seas, sailing out of St. Thomas towards Nassau:

A row of pastel cabana houses in Key West, FL, while visiting on the Zuiderdam just after hurricane Rita mussed them up a bit:

A replica sailing vessel slips by the ultra-calm waters on a perfectly clear day as the Veendam was coming into Dubrovnik, Croatia:

Volcanic island Stromboli appears out of the morning mist with the sunrise behind, smoke leaking down the hillside from the continuously active crater. Taken from the deck of the Veendam:

Sorry they're kind of crooked, but I was taking the pictures over the heads of a crowd that was 4 people deep at the railing as we were leaving Venice!

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

Your pictures are gorgeous! Was Stromboli a port stop on this cruise? If not, which port were you in when you took this shot?

Thank you. Stromboli wasn't a stop for the cruise...but it is sometimes part of a Mediterranean cruises' route. Look for cruises that pass through the Straights of Messina, between Sicily and mainland Italy. Stromboli is one of the Aeolian islands, just north of Sicily.

Most cruises that pass through the straights will give you a view of the very-active Mt. Etna on Sicily, as well as a cruise-by of Stromboli - sometimes passing at night where you usually see the red lava glow on the summit, or by day when it is smoking. If you happen to be lucky, Etna or Stromboli could be acting up that day, and you'll get fountains of lava shooting up from the top or running down the flanks!

BTW - gotta give my mother credit on that photo. She's the one that does all the world cruising - I'm usually stuck in the Americas! I convinced her to take my zippo-lighter-sized 2MP ultra-compact digital camera when I upgraded a few years ago, and told her to shoot anything interesting. She knows nothing about photography, so I didn't expect much. But she grabbed that early morning shot of Stromboli and that Dubrovnik approach shot with it! She doesn't load or post photos - so I posted those two for her.

Your mom did a great job! :D

Our med cruise next year goes is going from Venice to Barcelona. Midway it goes to Santorini, Catania, and Naples.

Is that likely to bring us through that area? My geography is awful. :o I'd love to see an active volcano!

You've got a very good chance of heading that way. Catania is on the east of Sicily, and Naples is just north and east of the Aeolians. So if your ship is calling at Naples and Catania, it'll probably pass through the Straight of Messina. So there's a good chance cruising out of Naples that you'll get the Stromboli cruise-by. Stromboli is always active, but sometimes it just simmers - so you look for either the daytime smoke or the nighttime glow. And after you pass through the Straight, you'll definately pass close to Etna before pulling into Catania. Etna just put on a big lava fountain show this week...she seems to act up every few months.

Still trying to give you a larger picture. Can't seem to get past the thumbnail size.

Picture has been resized to 800wd. x 600 ht. pixels but shows up with only 47.4 kbs (48,632 bytes) Don't understand this???

Here goes, one more time. :( If unsuccessful, I apologize!

Engineer Del:

It's possible you are adding your picture as an attachment insted of an inserted image. Try inserting your picture by clicking the icon that looks like a mountain with a yellow background. It's the 5th one from the right in the edit toolbar. Then there will appear at the top left of the main screen a place to enter the URL for the picture.
