I've seen this question on other lines threads but couldn't find any good RCCL ones. Can you share some things that you've experienced on RCCL that they just don't publicize? Secrets, if you will. We're on the Majesty in December. Thanks!

It is if you are not planning to gamble with it rather use it to get spending money, etc instead of the ATM's which charge high fees. Many of the lines charge a fee, Carnival I think was 3% and most of the newbies don't know you can do it all instead of bringing traveler checks or wads of cash and it is just charged to your seapass

yeah, I didn't think so either.

 

Last month (:( ) on Mariner we were at the pursers desk trying to add grats to our sea pass...last minute...and were too late. They TOLD us to go to the casino to get cash, just don't tell them why!

 

 

 

My secret: Stairs are WAY faster than the elevator if you can do them, however going from deck 3 to 11 in high heels is not recommended!

 

Each Deck has it's own art theme if you get lost (I just realized that on Mariner...may not be a secret though!)

 

No one I ever know wins bingo! (maybe they are people that work for the ship and its all a conspiracy??? LOL)

Have been on 6 cruises and have never spent a dime in the Casino. On our first cruise, not that long ago,(Nov '06) it was the purser who sent us to the Casino to get cash.

 

I agree, it is good advice, didn't know it was a secret though.

If you pre-order your wine and have it delievered to your stateroom or cabin you don't have to pay the gratuity for the purchase. Just bring your reciept/gift card to show it was purchased thru RCI so you don't have to pay a corkage fee. We also tip our waiter extra so he doesn't lose out per se...

My friend won $10,000 on bingo on their cruise. Not sure what line they were on, but she didn't play all week until the last day and won!!!

You can get to the front of the ship. I believe it's via Deck 4 on Voyager and Freedom class ships. You go up to the front of the ship on Deck 4, take the stairs upward, and wah-lah! Many people that we have talked to onboard don't realize that you can go there or how to go about getting there.

OK, someone please explain the cash deal to a newbie here.

 

We are going on first cruise 11/08. We will be spending some time in the casino as we do like to gamble. But since there will be so much going on, not sure how much time we will have or if we will like the games. So......... do we need to bring a bunch of cash or is it my understanding that if we need cash, it is just charged to the ship account and then put on our credit card at the end of the cruise. And this is not considered a "cash advance" on a credit card??????????

It is not considered a cash advance. :cool: Any cash you get at the casino window that you plan to "gamble" with, just gets added to your Sea Pass account, just like anything else you buy onboard the ship.

Maybe the term the OP means is "things everyone may not know about" - but secret is shorter in my book. So keep them coming people - don't limit them to big secrets only.

 

BTW, when we went on the Explorer friends had gotten instead of AMEX paper travelers checks the option of putting them on an AMEX Travlers' Debit type card (they thought it was the same thing but easier to carry). When they went to the purser's desk to get some cash off it they were directed to the ATM machine, which charged a fee. My friend went back to the desk again to explain she was led to believe this was the same as T.Cks. & you never pay a fee when cashing a traveler's check. Employee said the ATM would be how she would have to do it. So she paid the fees when she wanted $ (removing it all at once would have negated the idea of the security of not carrying cash) & no one ever said anything about the casino.

The casino pays out more money on the first night of a cruise, then the winners slow down on subsequent nights. This gives people a false sense of how "easy" it is to win money. Folks win a bit on the first night, then lose it and more by the end of the cruise.

Perhaps a "duh" secret but...

 

Simply being nice, courteous, and polite to the crew can get you a lot of things or buy you time.

 

We forgot about packing our luggage the night before we came back to Vancouver from Alaska and mom ran after a guy telling him we had forgotten and would he be able to to take our luggage, and he was the nicest guy EVER.

I don't know if this is true on other ships, but on Mariner, look for the Peek-a-boo Deck. This is a little-publicized spot on Deck 11 from which you can watch the goings-on on the bridge. Not quite the same as a tour, but probably as close as I'll ever get, and it was fascinating.

I'm clostraphobic so crowed elevators are impossible. When back from an excursion and there are lines for the elevators I always walk up to the first deck you can walk through and go to the other set of elevators..
