Ouch! Price drop - new bookings only!

Recommended Posts

Alright, I know, I know, I booked the cruise at the price I was willing to pay. But, it hurts when you go online and see a price drop that is for new bookings only and you can't get in on the action. Our oceanview dropped $200 per person and it's just killing me!:( I know we will have a great time, but I sure would love to have $400 back!:)

Call and ask if you can get the reduction (or if you booked through a TA, have the TA do it). The booking prices always say for new bookings only, but many people have reported that they've gotten them anyway, so long as it hasn't been a "happy hour" Tuesday sale (and today is Tuesday, so that may be the case) All they can say is no.

I did try, twice.:o I think it it a happy hour special. I was so excited when I saw the price drop, but crashed and burned quickly after that. I have been hoping for a price drop and have faithfully been checking the website daily! It was a great feeling for the minute that it lasted!:D

The same thing happened to us last year on the GOS. Royal Caribbean wouldn't budge. That's just the way it is I guess.

As I am quickly finding out, it is a special sale that they have on Tuesdays. If you go on the RC website, click on deals & gifts. Then click on limited time offers (?) or something like that. It will show you the sales. They are only good for new bookings.:D

I've checked several times per week since I booked this current cruise. I booked a November 2007 cruise in September 2007. I finally got a price drop listed for the JR. i just got off the phone with C&A and got the $200 price drop 8 days from sailing!!!

The Happy Hour specials that they ran for a long time were for new bookings only and had to be purchased before midnight that day.

Don't know if the new "specials" have the same rules as far as one day only, but the new booking only has been the rule since they started.

The promowave price drops are for any bookings, including those already made. Verify that and this with a TA, but I also think there are price changes that just appear for various cabin categories and sailings.

It was not an issue for me. I read this thread and went and checked one last time....we sail next week. My cabin price dropped $100 per person--called C&A and they honored it.

That's great. Was it a Limited time special or did the price just go down? I guess that's what this thread is trying to seperate. RCCL will honor regular price drops, residency and senior specials just not the what used to be called Happy Hour Specials which, I think, are the limited Tues. offers.

Not sure if it was limited. However it was a Tuesday--yesterday evening!!! There are only a few cabins left. The Owners Suite and the Royal Family (1 each) hasn't dropped in weeks. The oceanviews went up in cost (about $200 per person). There was one JR listed at a lower price than I paid. I just did the fake booking attempt and found it on RCCL. I did not see it on Promowave.

No matter-8-9 days prior to sailing..unusual and a nice perk.

If you got the price drop, it wouldn't have been for new bookings only. They are adament about not giving those for anything already booked.

I'm not convinced that what I was told last year is correct, but I booked a happy hour cabin on the Navigator for a May cruise and then canceled a Mariner cruise I had booked for September. The RCI cruise "specialist" said I could have transferred the Mariner booking to the Navigator and it would have still been considered a "new booking". I think he was just aggravated he had to give me a credit back on my card for the Mariner deposit as I made the full payment for the Navigator as it was within the final payment window.

I didn't have any OBC so I didn't care.

The old Happy Hour is now called "Sales Event". If you see the Tuesday special called Sales Event then you will know it is only for new bookings.

(promowave is a different special).

I had that happen for my upcoming Liberty cruise - they had a "hot deal" on tuesdays for my inside cabin category at $599 when we paid $1039 - THAT was not fun to think about the price difference BUT I knew I was already paid in full and with the cabins that we wanted so I just chose to not think about it as quickly as I could!

It is very frustrating though to know some people got on board for about 1/2 the price we did BUT again it's paid for and I'm not going to think about it again :)
