bath robes on the deck!-why?

Seeing people in the robes in public areas looks very strange to me, but it sure doesn't spoil my cruise or affect me in any way. I can kinda see wearing them to the spa, I guess. I'd rather wear my own cover-up, but that's me.

What puzzles me is that those robes are just about the heaviest, hugest, most uncomfortable things I've ever put on. Feel like I'm wearing a tent. I've tried wearing mine while getting ready for dinner, etc., and could hardly move! I'd be a walking disaster outside of my cabin. I guess they'd work better for a tall/big person.

I agree. I find the robes very uncomfortable. Way too large and heavy for me.

Im guilty of wearing a bathrobe up to the spa on the ship.. Only because i forgot to pack a coverup.. this is why i now have a packing list!

Fact is i was too embarrassed about my body to go parading around in my swin suit so i wore my robe to the edge of the spa then dropped in and jumped in :D

I cant see why it would make anyone 'uncomfortable'... its not like i was naked.. and you see more of me in my cosie then in a robe??

I like to use the spa showers, [much larger] and I like to slip into a robe when I come out of the shower. Since I'm taking my robe to the spa, the simple thing is to wear it. [i also wear clean gym shorts underneath]. But that's the only time I wear it out of the cabin.

I only saw two people in robes during our Miracle cruise (there was no bathrobe party).

One was an older man in the buffet, which sort of makes sense, if the person had been out by the pool. I guess. Better the robe than a hairy, sweaty, oily old guy in a speedo in the buffet line! Ick!

The other was a woman strolling through the casino one night, drink in hand, with a guy. She looked 100% ridiculous. Of course, that's probably why she was wearing it.

I'm usually freezing cold, but I would've roasted trying to wear one of those things around the ships.

Ah i think going to the spa on a cruise ship and the lobby of the ritz are two totally different things.

Ah, if it was truly just 'going to the spa', that would be one thing, but it is not. The issue is that people seem to be wearing them everywhere on the ship, including public places; and yes, even the lobby.

Hence the analogy to the lobby of the Ritz, a very valid point; and one that I agree with..

LOL The first night of our last cruise our kids met up with a group of kids (some were grandkids of another cc member) They ended up being reffered to as the "Bathrobe Gang" on the ship. The comedian had a blast with them also :p :p Heck they were a good bunch of kids, never bothered anyone and had a great time. No one seemed to botherd by them. They did dress appropriatly at dinner.

Bathrobe in the cabin, entirely appropriate; in the casino or piano bar entirely innapropriate..

Maybe they were wearing their bathrobe in the casino to keep their own clothes from smelling like smoke? :)

Let's see.......

{one hand} Look like an idiot running around the casino in a robe

{other hand} Have my clothes smell smoky

hmmmmmm

I think I'll wear my clothes and then send them to be cleaned. ;)

I would prefer the bathrobe to some of the Slutty dresses I have seen on some of the cruises I have been on. Our cruise on the Pride must have held the retired-Prostitute convention. Maybe I should start a thread about how those old wrinkled boobies should be covered up completely for dinner so I don't lose my appetite. A cleavage line that is a foot and a half long down your belly is not attractive. Wearing a dress that covers your stuff should be required. And some of the men I have seen eating like someone will take their food away any second. Shoving it in while there mouth is still full. Yuck! I would prefer a ship full of robes then some of the other s*#t out there.

Ha. I have to say I agree with you, SunnieD!

And for those who mourn the death of the topless deck, if you had seen the women who were up there sunning the girls on our Fantasy 2006 cruise, you'd never cruise again. Sheesh. I still have nightmares!

DD and I laughed about the table next to us on the Miracle. The three young ladies appeared every evening for dinner (at least 30 minutes after the dining room opened; I'm sure the wait staff appreciated that) wearing clothing that was more revealing than most people on the Lido Deck.

We decided they must be having a "Cleave-Off" competition! Whoever could show the most boob during the cruise was the winner. At least they were young!

Anyway, the people in the robes just looked out of place. But once again, I imagine it was a case of "it's my vacation and I'm going to do whatever I like and if YOU don't like it, too bad, because I'm the center of my tiny universe and no one and nothing else matters."

This didn't happen when robes were only offered in the better rooms.

here we go again.....

people dont you realize in a forum like this if you try and make a comment about class .... it usually means you will come off looking like the one with no class.......

The classiest people to me are the ones who view all with the same dignity... untill they prove otherwise...and this cant be judged on if they wear a robe in public or what kind of room on the ship you have.... I'm paying for 75 people to cruise with us for our wedding......75 cruise fares and not 4 in a cabin discount either.!!... My guests are going to be given inside state rooms as you can tell balconies for 75 people would be a little more than i feel i need to spend.....Some of my guests are heads of companies making more money a year than all of us...there's some people with decent jobs , and some unemployed folks..........all appreciating the same cabin... a "crappy" old inside as a wonderful gesture......So just because someone is staying in an inside or wears their bathrobe around is no way a valid reason to judge one's class.....

now if someone was all drunk running around flashing people with thier robe.. ...then there you can say they have no class.... but just the act of wearing it is not justification for this..... its a robe..!!

and if it really does still bother people i can understand ... some people want a more "refined experience"... so as I, and others here have mentioned... pay more for the higher level of cruislines....

those ships are very tranquil, and calm and nothing really going on at all to bother someone that doesn't want to be bothered....

to expect the modern day passengers on lines like carnival and rci to changes is an uphill battle... This is what family fun cruising is about now....

We are all so serious during the weeks of work its a time to just relax and just have fun.......

I thought those NCL ads of everyone in dark blue outfits syncronized swimming, eating and walking were funny.....

Now I realize some people actually want that atmosphere.........

well not ME......

before our cruise this past week, i read about people wearing robes to walk around the ship. i didnt think anything of it. i have sailed several times and had never experienced this. well, for the first time, we had robes in our closet. i counted around 30-40 people walking around decks in BATH robes. i dont know why, but this made me feel uneasy. this ship decks are public areas not a driveway with a news paper at the end. why do people feel compelled to wear a robe to walk around?

Shortly before the demise of Premier Cruise line they were giving everybody free robes, then the robe parties started. Once folks got used to wearing them around it became easy a sign of comfort ,laid back etc.I have no opinion on whether this should be acceptable or not but I do know that the thongs, slingshots, strings, speedos, are alot more distastful and wearing them in any public scenario would have gotten someone beat in the early 20th century. Things change.

What's your point? None of what you wrote changes my experience.

My point is it is not a class issue...

you are making it into a class issue when its about people during something that is entirely appropriate.. in an appropriate enviornment

It just bothered me to hear you suggest, (although done very coy)

that is because they now put robes in lower cat. rooms...

That is not why you see it so much more now...

The cruiselines are saying to get out and have some fun...partially by throwing these bathrobe events or parties...so its the cruisline you should have a problem with... not the individual cruiser... thats al I'm saying..

don't judge a book you know...? or in this case a passenger by what room they stay in..

I am going on the Miracle in March. I understand that it's probably a lot of fun, but what is the point of a bathrobe party? I am sure we will attend, I am just wondering what the point of it really is?

Thanks

Shane

There was an impromptu Toga party on the Elation last week... there was a very good turnout. Funny thing, I do not care to see the people in the bathrobes but rather enjoyed the togas…………………
