Gardening Girl Posted February 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2008 I know that as of Jan. 1st 2008 RSSC is prohibiting smoking in all suites/cabins and balconies (how wonderful), and has just a few designated smoking areas. I am an avid non-smoker and this is a real plus for me!! I was just wondering if any of the other luxury cruise lines have followed suit and have this policy. If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it!!! Thanks, GG
kitty9 Posted February 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2008 No, Regent is the only luxury line with such a restrictive smoking policy, unfortunately. Azamara and Oceania have similar policies, but they are not considered in the luxury market.

Gardening Girl Posted May 4, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted May 4, 2008 My husband & I are avid non-smokers and just returned recently from our cruise and wanted to relay that having no smoking in cabins and on balconies was wonderful!!! There were just a handful of places where smoking was allowed and we just stayed away from those. On the other hand we didn't hear any complaints from the smokers about their limitations. Hope more cruise lines follow with this non-smoking policy!! GG
Kissing Seahorses Posted May 5, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2008 Just a quick question, How do you avidly (frequently) NOT smoke? You could be an avid smoker as smoking is an action, not smoking is inaction. Are you perhaps rabid non-smokers, indicating that you are "extremely zealous or enthusiastic, fanatical"? edels Posted March 5, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2009 Oceania is more smoking restrictive than Regent. On Oceania, smoking is only allowed in a corner of the pool deck and in a corner of the Horizon Lounge. On Regent, smoking is allowed in about 5 public areas of the ships. Avid can mean intensely eager. So an avid non-smoker implies; eager to avoid tobacco smoke and any association with tobacco smoke, such as smokers and ash trays. So an avid non-smoker, is a useful term.
KnJTexas Posted March 5, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2009 non smokers treat smokers like second class people.
lcand1923 Posted April 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2009 In my experience, smokers treat non-smokers like second class citizens, too. So, the treatment is mutual.
Travelcat2 Posted April 13, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2009 If smokers smoke in designated areas, and non-smokers stay away from those areas, there could be less problems. Regent does a good job of informing their passengers of these areas. I have seen a non-smoker sit in the middle of a smoking area and get upset that someone lit up. There needs to be mutual respect. orchestrapal Posted May 13, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2009 :)We've been on 6 Oceania cruises and have avoided being anywhere near the smokers in the two very limited smoking areas. One person began smoking in their cabin and when caught was put off the ship in the following port. Oceania really means business when it comes to NON- SMOKING!:):)
staten island Posted August 27, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2011 I know that as of Jan. Thanks, GG My husband and I had our voyage on Cunard's Queen Mary 2 ruined because of the heavy smokers in the next cabin. The ship's "hotel manager" and the Cunard headquarters were adamant in stating to me that smoking is permitted in the cabins and on the balconies. We were unable to use our balcony, and every time we opened our door to the hallway, we were deluged with smoke. This is ridiculous. We were told that "most Europeans smoke", however, statistics show that 78% of the British people do not smoke. My advice? Avoid Cunard if you're allergic to tobacco smoke. Travelcat2 Posted September 2, 2011 #12 Share Posted September 2, 2011 Silversea now has no smoking on balconies (not sure how well it is being enforced).
ducklite Posted October 16, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 16, 2011 Windstar has a quite restrictive policy as well. No smoking anywhere except a couple of designated areas of the deck.
FolsomMike Posted October 16, 2011 #14 Share Posted October 16, 2011 non smokers treat smokers like second class people. I love these smokers vs. non smokers fights...I'm reminded of the comic who said "When someone asks me-do you mind if I smoke?, I say-no, do you mind if I (pass gas)? "

sail7seas Posted January 3, 2012 #16 Share Posted January 3, 2012 I wish EVERY cruise line would ban smoking on verandas. It is miserable for non-smoking neighbors when people puff away next door to them. We have lost full use of our veranda more than once in that circumstance. Whether the thread is three years old or not ..... it remains relevant on cruise lines that still permit veranda smoking. IMO

But the only way to change it is to no longer cruise on the lines that allow it and let them know why your changing lines.
Travelcat2 Posted January 7, 2012 #18 Share Posted January 7, 2012 This thread in ancient:eek: Most smoking policies have changed a bit since this was written. You may want to check the websites for the different luxury lines. Silversea no longer allows smoking on balconies -- nor does Crystal. Effective January 8th, smoking will no longer be permitted in the casino on Regent. Lots of good changes (or not?)
