NCL Star....what's NOT to be missed?

He's aware that you'll be looking for him. He'll be able to answer all of your questions about getting hired and living conditions etc.

You two may actually know some of the same people as he lived in Henderson for awhile and worked on the strip. He also knows some long term Vegas performers you may know.

Hope you are able to meet up.

I think MsBelp was trying to be funny since so many people missed their ships with the airline problems. I'm pretty sure her comment had nothing to do with 2.0.

She said "2.0" You mean she was just teasing and getting our hopes up?

MsBelp didn't say "2.0", someone else did.

*I* said 2.0. I was wwwwaaayyyyyyyy too slow to pick up on Ms Belp's humor about last week's delayed airline flights causing people to miss the ship. You see what happens to a person in the throes of cruise-withdrawal. I tell ya, the week after leaving the ship is very, very hard -- no room service, no towel animals, no fruit soup, and, apparently, no ability to detect subtle humor.:p

Well, BAD NEWS folks,:( I asked NCL today when the Star would have 2.0 and the "official word" is June 1st it will be fleet-wide. Which holds true what I saw before that the Star will get it sometime in May:cool: BOO HOO!!! Guess I'll just have to book ANOTHER cruise on her after June to see it....hmmm...I might want to get a job to pay for that:rolleyes:

I'm sure you'll SUFFER through somehow. :p

Soooo, any more ideas for SakeDad to help him with his "just 1.0" cruise on the Star?

Hear's one more: Be sure to poke your head out the door when Captain Lars starts talking about the day (or turn on the TV-- they broadcast the announcements there as well).

He'll bring up all sorts of topics-- the weather, the food, how important good health is compared to other things in your life, etc etc. He's the most talkative Norwegian I have ever come across, and I quite enjoyed his shipwide announcements.

I'm so glad I asked this!! I plan on printing them and giving them to everyone at out Meet & Greet. There are lots of things here I would have missed....especially on a 3 day repo cruise! KEEP 'EM COMIN'!!!!:D

Sake:

I TOO am so glad you asked. I am printing as well.

Have fun on your cruise and enjoy making those memories with your mom. One day you will cherish them more than you know.

Can't wait to hear about your trip when you return. I can tell you will "lay it all out there" and good luck meeting with the guy! Hope you get a job on board and I will see you in August! :)

You obviously have never sailed with Capt. Johnny on the Mariner of the Seas! Ha Ha! He has even written a book and he has book signings while at Sea! He is a real hoot! He even brings his bright yellow Harley on board and you can see him ride off on it while in port!

We took the NCL Star last Nov to the Mexican Riveria and are booked on the May 31st cruise on the NCL Star to Alaska. LOVED it. Here are some of my thoughts on what to miss...

1. Their chilled banana soup. Probably the best fruit soup I have ever had. I had two bowls of it.

2. I LOVED the hot wings in Blue Lagoon. Had to have them every day.. LOL

3. I loved meeting Rosita (sorry I can't remember her last name). She is the Hotel Manager on board. Great person.

4. Cagney's and Teppanyaki ARE NOT to be missed. Le Bristo was ok with me.

5. If you are a people watcher like me, have a cup of coffee in the Java Cafe.

6. Topsiders Grill has great hamburgers.

And two things to AVOID like the plague - Endless Summers. It might be that we are from Texas and know what true TexMex and Mexican food should be like, but I found Endless Summers GROSS. The other thing to avoid is the casino. We lost more money in their casino than we have in any casino we have been in around the world.

Sorry so much of my advise is food related, but all we did was eat and gamble as far as activities on the ship. This next trip we plan on skipping the casino all together and doing a lot more on the ship.

Grab some Banana Nut Bread in the Blue Lagoon on your way to the theatre to go say hi to my son who will be joining the ship on the 21st for a few weeks before flying to the Baltics. He's still home on vacation so he's not sure what shows / entertainment will be going on during the repo.

Also give Ricky Matthews, the CD, a hug from me!

Will your son still be on the ship on the 17th? We'll be on there round trip from Seattle.

Oh yeah...the cookies are really good. And, in addition to the Market Cafe in the afternoons, these little gems are available anytime through room service.

There are door hangers for breakfast in the 'info folder.' (You can write in extra items that are available via room service, like cookies)

The french toast in the Market Cafe is probably the BEST I've had. Not to be missed. The breakfast in the dining room is mostly the same as the buffet, so I wouldn't waste my time there...especially on a short cruise.

Dont' miss the shows with the Chinese acrobat team. They are amazing.

I, too, remembered the great burgers on deck from our Alaska cruise two years ago. But, the burgers on our Mexico cruise a couple weeks ago were horrible. Not just bad, but inedible. Steamed. yuck. Bummer. The deck BBQs were good though. Not sure if it was good enough to stand in the REALLY long line for though.

I hope the weather warms up for your trip up the coast. This has been the coldest spring I can remember.

I plan on taking a printout and checking things off as I do them:D As it's only a 3 day repo cruise I have to work FAST!

OK....here's the final list I made...I removed any duplicate entries so if you don't see yours that's why...but I thank ALL of you for helping!!!

Ice cream on deck 12, on your way to the outdoor kids area.

Seaweed wrap in the spa, followed by a massage, followed by a long soak in the spa-area jacuzzi, followed by a long sit on the lounge chairs looking at the wake (do this during the day).

Any of the fruit soups

Anything that Second City puts on (Stardust theater shows, smaller lounge shows, or their very fun improv workshop)

A frou-frou drink in the Carousel Lounge. Be sure to get something with a ton of umbrellas and get your photo snapped on one of the merry-go-ground animals by the bar.

Dinner at Le Bistro. Dinner at Teppenyaki, try the Steak & Prawns combo

Your favorite brew at the Red Lion Pub, while listening to the house singer (he's a blast). Also a great place to people watch.

Fish-n-chips at the Blue Lagoon, any time of day or night

Cookies from the Garden Cafe, served 3-5pm (snag a few and keep them in your room)

Crepes from the Garden Cafe, filled with fruit topping and a scoop of ice cream

Photos on the atrium staircase

People-watching from the Java cafe while nursing a Mexican coffee (or whatever your favorite poison is).

Free champagne at the various art auctions and jewelry events, which is another great people watching event (I saw someone win a surprisingly lovely piece of amber jewelry at the amber event, and was jealous that I did not enter in such a "silly" event.)

Tapa appetizers from Endless Summer before a late dinner.

1)Did you know that you can get popcorn in the Red Lion Pub.

2) In the Men's restroom nearest the stardust theatre, there are multitudes of windows overlooking the ocean!!

Find out when the kid's crew does their pirate parade, and take photos of the kids in their get-up, singing pirate songs as they tour the ship.

We absolutely LOVED the burgers at The Grill by the pool. It's been over a year, and that memory hasn't left yet. And it's QUICK!

We loved Il Popo that they serve at Endless Summer, although I heard the ribs are wonderful, too.

The Pearl Martini Bar is behind the Carousel Bar and so out of the way that people miss it, and it's really nice (and quiet).

I almost forgot our very favorite place -- Le Bistro, but outside the actual restaurant -- in the wine cellar area. There are 3-4 tables out there, and the last table is surrounded on 3 sides with wine and interesting photos of Napa wineries and winemakers. It feels very private. The area is right next to the piano, and someone is playing there nightly. Ahhhh.

karoke (sp?) at the carousel bar, on our cruise it was standing room only.

walking through the area of the blue lagoon and grabbing some of the dessert breads or cookies.

the views from the star bar or from the spinnaker lounge.

Grab some Banana Nut Bread in the Blue Lagoon on your way to the theatre

The hidden bridge viewing area behind the curtains in the Stardust Theater.

Omelette station for breakfast out by the pool. They also make great waffles.

Be sure to poke your head out the door when Captain Lars starts talking about the day (or turn on the TV-- they broadcast the announcements there as well).

He'll bring up all sorts of topics-- the weather, the food, how important good health is compared to other things in your life, etc etc. He's the most talkative Norwegian I have ever come across, and I quite enjoyed his shipwide announcements

Jean Ann Ryan Company is so good. Dont miss any shows with them

I LOVED the hot wings in Blue Lagoon. Had to have them every day.. LOL
