******smoking In Ov Cabin????*****

WHEW! I was wondering if I was the only smoker in our group. At least now I know I'll have a pal:) I won't smoke in the cabin because of DD and BFF. They neither smoke nor care too. I just go up to the Lido deck.

I made it two months this time before I fell off the wagon again. I have cut down a lot, but I'm sure with a drink or two I will want one! We never smoke in the cabin since I don't smoke inside at home either - I just don't like the lack of ventilation. DH quit using Chantix but I had a reaction to the stuff and can't take it. Now that he is off the Chantix, he is still having an occasional one, though. So you are not alone at least for the moment!:p

You should be ashamed of yourself worrying about smoking in your cabin. Did you ever once think about the people like myself who have asthma and allergies and can't even stand to be anywhere around smoke? Do you know how many limitations we have to the places we can go because everyone is smoking? I am actually a little bit concerned about our upcoming cruise because I am wondering how much smoke there is going to be on the ship. I would like to go in the bar or the casino maybe for a drink or to gamble, but there is noooo way. I wouldn't be able to breathe. I can't even go to the bowling alley at home because there is too much smoke. How fair is that!!! I am quite sure I am not the only person in the world like this. I speak for all those people who get physically sick from cigarette smoke. There were restaurants I could never eat in because of smoking, although smoking is now banned in most restaurants:( .

You will be able to smoke on probably 3/4 of the ship and you are complaining about your cabin. What about the poor allergic person that will be using your cabin after you and will be sick after their cruise because you want to smoke in it. How inconsiderate!

Italian059, you should move to California, smoking is not allowed virtually in all public places, including some sidewalks, parks, beaches. They're also working on one to ban it in multi-unit buildings such as condos, etc. We really miss California when we travel elsewhere! Unfortunately, we do have to put up with it on ships!

We were on a Disney cruise last fall and there was no smoking in the cabins either. There was no smoking in any of the bars, there was no casino, and the only designated areas to smoke were on one side of the ship -- the other whole outside was smoke free. If you only walked on one side of the ship, you'd never smell any smoke at all. ;)

Back to the topic though.... you can buy 5 cartons of cigarettes on a Carnival cruise? They're $46/carton here in Michigan, so that's good to know. I guess my question is, do you get them at the time you purchase them or do you have to wait til the last night and they deliver them to your door? On the Disney cruise, the alcohol we bought was dropped off on our last night -- I don't remember if we bought cigarettes or not.

Why should someone be ashamed to smoke in a OV cabin, when it's allowed? Don't you think you're being a bit harsh, calling someone inconsiderate for this? You obviously haven't been around Cruise Critic, having only 1 post, but if you search you will see that the ship uses an air freshener that takes out the smoke and smell and only 1% of the pax ever complain about smelling smoke in their cabins when the people before them smoked. I always get a balcony, but if I didn't, I would smoke in my OV cabin. Always have, always will. :p

Sound like a complaint you should be making to Carnival... not the smokers who are allowed to smoke on the ship. This is coming from a non-smoker BTW.

I JUST HEARD THAT U CAN'T SMOKE IN AN OV CABIN!!!!???

ANYWAY I CAN GET AROUND IT OR TRY TO COVER UP THE SMELL?

WANNA TRY TO AVOID THE $250 NON-COMPLIANT FEE. BUT MY HUSBAND'S A SMOKER & THE BALCONIES WERE SOLD OUT AT BOOKING.

WE SMOKE & WOULD LOVE SOME ADVISE HOW TO GET AROUND THIS RIDICULOUS NEW RULE!!!

THANKS FOR THE TIPS & BON VOYAGE!!!!!:D

The latest posters do not seem to understand the whole point of my post. The person that posted the original message was trying to find away to smoke in her cabin without getting caught or did I misunderstand? She was under the impression it was not allowed!!

Great post, ICAM.

I hope you enjoy your cruise. I am sorry that there are certain parts of the ship that you will not be able to go to.

:) As a platinum meber of Carnival, I believe I will switch to Celebrity in order to take advantage of no smoking in the cabins. We were sorrounded by smokers who were in balcony rooms while in the Med. on Liberty. It was miserable sleeping and trying to breathe. Thanks for the Celebrity info!

Bon Voyage...

Yes, I understand that. But your answer went well beyond that. You still called people who smoke in OV cabins, inconsiderate, and went on and on about smoking on the ship. I suggest you find another form of travel, because all ships allow smoking in some places and you won't be able to get away from it. As bad as your Asthma sounds, perhaps cruising is not for you. You mentioned that you are concerned about your upcoming cruise. I would be too, if I were you!

Bravo! I couldn't have said it better!!!:)

She needs to take it up with Carnival or just don't cruise!

Sounds like she needs a smoke... and that's 'inconsiderate'!;)

Coming from Seattle, where smoking isn't allowed ANYWHERE, including bars and, I believe, public parks, I am surprised smoking is tolerated so much on cruise ships. I guess the rest of the country has different attitudes about it than in Seattle, or California. Our non-smoking laws were passed with an overwhelming majority. So it seems there must be market out there for completely non-smoking ships....why aren't they offered? And another thing, why can't the ships offer non-smoking cabins? Every hotel in the country does so, why is it so difficult for the cruise industry to offer this?

Carnival does a great job about cleaning the cabins. I was on 3 cruises before I realized you could smoke in your cabin.

I think this will always be a controversial subject. People shouldn't make it so personal

I completely agree! I guess I posted a very sensitive subject, for some?

Nevertheless, I got the answers I was looking for... and then some. lol!
Not to worry. You are allowed to smoke in your OV on your upcoming cruise.

You will be fine, just ask the cabin steward for an ashtray. However, please understand that smoking in the hallways is not allowed. That will be announced during your Muster Drill and posted in print in the Capers...so no opening your cabin door to "air out" your cabin into the hallway.

There are multiple designated smoking areas around the ship, so don't worry about not being able to find a place. The Casino, Sports Bar, Piano Bar (although some piano players who don't smoke may have no smoking around the piano itself...the rest of the bar is still a designated smoking area), the Cigar bar (of course) as well as one side of the pool area. The only thing around the ship that is not allowed is walking from one venue to another through the Promenade with a lit cigarette. Smoking is restricted to the areas listed above.

You will have a great cruise!!
I will mention this right now, there are people who will smell the smoke outside of your room and call attention to the fact that you are "smoking in the hallways" just because they do not like the smell of smoke. Also, remember that when you smoke in your room it will seep into the walls, bedding, and furniture. Of course the room will be ionized but what about the layer of smoke film on the walls. I'm not a smoker but most of my family is. Just warning you in advance of some of the issues we have seen. Be polite. Also, demand that your husband be polite and considerate of others. I agree with the other poster, just because you are on vacation doesn't give anyone the right to break rules. Rules are there for a reason. Break a rule, pay the price. Don't be shocked when a hefty fine rolls around your way if you break the rules. :o

The reason for my concern is because I just returned from RCCL Majesty of the Seas & our OV room was non-smoking too & the cabin attendant starting harassing about their new policy & threatened to charge us the $250 fee. But did we listen... I don't think so! I'm on freakin vacation! lol!
You have to admit - this post didn't really come off as "polite & considerate" since you smoked in a non-smoking cabin anyway - even after you were asked not to. Smokers take a beating on this board pretty regularly - and sometimes with good reason.

If it's allowed then it's not rule breaking, is it? There's also no need for name calling - Allgeeteredup was just asking for you husband to be considerate, which in light of your earlier posts about smoking in a non-smoking room anyway, was a valid concern, IMHO.

Have a great cruise - Carnival still has plenty of smoking areas available and they are well marked - as are most of the non-smoking areas.

Its not just being asked not to smoke on RCL, there is a big sign on each cabin door, has a cigarette with a big X on top of it, the universal sign of no smoking. So, even if the OP failed to read RCL's rules about no smoking except in a balcony, they knew without being told. They couldnt miss that big sign on the door.

In which case it was just blatant disregard for the rules. I know it's a nasty habit - which is why I'm very conscious of where I smoke, how many people are around, and whether or not it is allowed where I am. It just bugs me when those that don't care make a bad name for the rest of us. It's part of what contributes to all the name calling. Not just here but elsewhere as well.

Skye,

The hubby and I are both smokers, yet, we can not stand the stench of stale cigarettes! (Yeah, I know...) We do not smoke in our house, our vehicles, or indoors. We take showers before bed because we hate the smell! We even had a lanai built on to our house so we could smoke without getting rained on- extremes for smokers, but I'll be damned if I smoke EVER in my house!

Anyhoo, just smoke outside on the decks. Your cabin won't smell all funky. :) You'll smoke less, and when you do smoke, you'll meet other smokers. (Smokers make more friends!) But don't do it inside- that's nasty! You have to sleep there- ugh, if I had to wake up to that smell... Plus, you guys get more exercise going to find a good smoking place on the bow of the ship! (Love my marathons and Marlboros- weird combination, I know...) Anyhoo, have a great trip!

I dont smoke but lived with a guy who did and I got used to it and even on cruises I go up and sit with the smokers, but RCL sure had fewer smokers Easter week. I think they lost a lot of cruisers by the no smoking in cabins rules.

I got last minute on the Voyager for $499 and they put me in a OV and lots got that price and some $450 a couple days after me and also got OVs.

More will come to Carnival and their other lines to smoke.

Not all brans are available for that deal. I smoke Marlboro Lights. They package 5 carts. in a big square box and sell them for $85.00! I live in Ma and I pay over $50. per cart.!

As someone mentioned, "the bad news is" you can only take 1 cart. home with you. However, I read - if you visit St. Thomas you are allowed to take home 5 carts. of cigs. (I think you are supposed to buy them in the U.S.V.I).

Oh well....! I have enough stress in my life and I cannot worry about that little detail! (If, I had to pay tax upon departing - so be it!)

Have a wonderful time on your upcoming cruise!

RCCL has a new policy;
Smoking For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking, however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated certain areas of the ship as "smoking areas."

Your on vacation so you shouldn't have to respect the policy of the cruise line you selected to cruise:confused:
