Smkymtncpl Posted June 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Hello fellow cruisers! Hubby and I are doing something different for are upcoming cruise (March break 2009). Since things are a tad iffy (to say the least) with the airline industry, we decided to find a cruise that departed out of a port that we could drive to. Needless to say, this dropped a lot of options. Hubby has been on RC once, we've been on NCL twice, just recently for this past March break (and really enjoyed it). We decided that we'd choose Carnival Glory, as it leaves out of Port Canaveral. We are going to drive down the day before (it's about a 10 hour drive for us) and stay in a hotel or motel. The nice thing, is that when we wake up in the morning, we can go straight to the ship and not have to stress about late flight, missing a connecting flight, etc. (almost had a connecting flight ruin our trip once). We've been in 5 star hotels, we've been in 2 star hotels. We're not looking for a 5 star, as we want to spend our money on the cruise: in the spa getting massages, on excursions, fancy umbrella drinks and, of course, in the casino ;) As far as recommendations go - we need something that's clean. So a 2 or 3 star is just fine. We found out from Carnival that parking at the pier is $15/day. So we'll also check out hotels and see if they have a park'n'go rate too, and see which one works out the best. Appreciate any suggestions anyone may have. I have to say, we are really excited about trying Carnival - this will be our first time on a Carnival ship - our son will be 9 by then, and I think he'll really enjoy the kids program. Like us, he's now addicted to cruising!!!:D Thanks and happy cruising!!!
Au48 Posted June 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2008 We stayed at the Countrywide Suites right there at the port before our cruise on the Sensation. It was very clean, and a pretty good rate ($89/night) if I remember correctly. The best part was, they allowed you to park your car there for a nominal charge. I don't remember how much it was, but it was significantly less than the port charges. They also have a shuttle to the ships, and when you come back, just give them a call, and the shuttle will be there in 5-10 minutes.
Robert6260 Posted June 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2008 The Raddisson at the Port. I have stayed there 3 times and it is excellent. They have free cruise parking and a shuttle to the port.

I have stayed there on three occasions pre-cruise and they do offer a cruise/park rate which includes the shuttle to the airport. Very clean place to stay and very safe to leave your car. Smkymtncpl Posted June 24, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Oh how great ... thanks for all the great replies so quickly everyone!! I just registered this morning on CruiseCritic ... what a great forum for helpful advice!! Actually, we used bestpricecruises.com to book our trip (ended up getting $300 onboard credit for $90 and free travel insurance). The girl there suggested that I go to THIS website to ask fellow cruisers about hotels. Man, I can't wait to go!! :) Thanks so very much for the helpful tips!!! Really appreciate it!! Oh, btw, Noahark, looks like we'll be crossing paths ... we are going on March 14th! Too bad it's not the same cruise - but thanks for the tip about checking the roll call, I'll have to do that! Rockee4055 Posted June 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted June 24, 2008 The Radisson at the port. It's about 5 minutes door to ship. If you drive, you can leave your car there all week for free but you have to make them aware of your intentions. We;ve stayed there several times and really enjoyed it. snelsonbrown Posted June 24, 2008 #13 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Hello and welcome to Cruise Critic board. Even though the Radisson is my most favorite recommendation simply due to the fact that the GM who is Joe P. is one of the most generous gentleman I have ever had the pleasure to work with. If there are any questions or any problems, he goes to almost all extent to make sure that the guest leave with smiles. I have mentioned many times that he helped me find a safe zone for 4 families that were stranded here hours before Francis the hurricane hit in 2004. Avis provided the transportation. I will say though that all the GM's listed here have been awesome to work with when I email them with questions or problems Anyhow the final decision is yours I would check out the thread "I work in Port Canaveral" - its information is worth looking over. Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down. Radisson Website: http://www.radisson.com/capecanaveralfl Beginning July 9 2007 Radisson will officially offer free transportation for guests – the Area will be the Port, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, Merritt Square Mall and free transportation (to and from) and highly discounted tickets to Kennedy Space Center. flyingb Posted September 2, 2009 #19 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Hello fellow cruisers! Just wanted to add another thumbs for the Radisson. In my sig. there are picture of the hotel and grounds, beautiful! ;) Also we were on the Glory that trip so there are some pics of the ship also. Happy cruising, you will love the Glory. Luv's Crusin'
