No more free casino money

Recommended Posts

Just off the Vision of the Seas. The Diamond C & A book used to have 3 coupons for $2 casino money. Now you get 3 pulls of a slot machine. The lady before us got zilch. My wife and I both got zilch. The lady behind us hit it big. On her second pull she had 3 double bars. The machine said she won 15. We thought $15. No, the machine printed out a voucher for 15 cents. We all laughed. She took it to the cashiers cage and they gave her a keychain instead of the 15 cents. Man, things are tight on RCCL.

We had the same experience on Enchantment of the Seas last December and have two "dreaded" casino key chains to show for it. However, on the Legend of the Seas in February we got our free quarters and were able to use them in the slot machine of our choice. I can't imagine that this new concept has been very favorably received and would hope that not only does it not spread throughout the fleet but that it is discontinued on those ships where it is in force.:(

It's on Monarch, too, although once in a while we get the older coupon books with the "good" coupons in them.

And I did see a sign last time we were onboard that cash advances at the window are subject to a transaction fee. The sign didn't say how much and I didn't withdraw any cash, so I don't know how much it was. I'll try to remember to find out next weekend.

Geez, now that is taking it too far. They're making you pay to get your own money to spend in their casino? Cheap skates!

It is 3% on all transactions, it came into effect on April 1st, even if you get chips on the tables with your Seapass card, the same goes for Celebrity.

I doubt that this is because they are cheap. I and alot of other pax are betting this is because too many pax were using the casino as their own personal ATM. Pax would withdraw money for shopping, tips and would sometimes take the max allowed each day just to rack up RCI points on their BOA Visa cards. Of course they would put a few quarters in the slot machines so they could say the money was for gambling.

Once again those that just couldn't resist being selfish about something ruined it for everyone else.:(

I do not understand why anyone would not use these coupons. I take them to the window, collect my $12 and leave. We just did a b2b so I collected $24. You do not have to use the money in the casino. Of course if my DH was with me they would have ended up on the blackjack table. I just take the money and leave. I will miss these coupons. They are the only reason I go to the casino.

You were lucky and got cash back. Used to be that way, but now the ships are giving you tokens that have to be used in the slots.

Are you saying no more cash from the casino cage on your sea pass for tips or going ashore money? Hope not!

I will miss the $2 freebie coupons, I don't gamble but the money was nice to have when I go into port. :)

Oh, you can take money out of the casino.............but they will charge you a 3% service charge on your SeaPass account. :(

Well, you end up getting 2% back in points, because it is considered a RCCL purchase. So effectively, you're paying a 1% fee...still cheaper and more convenient than using traveler's checks.

Yes, I am one of the people who withdrew cash from the casino, but I don't feel I took advantage of it. I basically just drew out money for tips.

Dang! Thanks Patti.....I guess they have to make money where ever they can!

Sherry...I guess 1 % is better than 3 but its the hard hit of the 3% on your sea pass!!

I guess we won't be using our sea pass for extra cash anymore....we loved getting the extra points on our RC visa.

Well, technically you could say that you did take advantage of it ... though it does make me wonder if the crew were assessed a 3% fee out of their tips for people who left tips on the SeaPass (seeing as it is basically the same thing, right?).

Linda, they got smart.............figured that was going to happen sooner or later.:(

Best thing to do, if you want to take out money against your SeaPass is go to the Purser's Desk and ask for the cash against your SeaPass.

On Splendour we had a rather large OBC left on both cruises and since they don't know how to credit your credit card when you have a credit on your SeaPass account, they give you any unused OBC in cash.

Most of the cruise lines do charge 3% if you take money out in the casino on your sail and sign card. Depending on how much you want to take out, it COULD be less exensive than using the ATM, but if you want more than $200, the the ATM is cheaper.

Sometimes I do use my sail and sign card for gambling if I don't want to make the trip up to my cabin to get cash, but not very often.

Since I mostly used the cash from the casino at the blackjack tables, the new policy saved me some money on my cruise on Jewel of the Seas. I can deal with the normal house advantage when I gamble. That's how they make money. But I refuse to start out 3% behind before I even sit down at the tables. So instead of blackjack, we went to the show. Even after buying a cocktail, we were still way ahead. :)
