"LIVE" from the Crown Princess 28 days from Copenhagen to Ft. Lauderdale

Our hobby is dancing. We enjoyed the wood dance floors earlier this year on the CB in the Wheelhouse bar where a couple of dance band trios played every night and in Club Fusion where they had dance lessons and a DJ.

We are considering booking a cruise for next year on the Crown Princess and were wondering if there are wood dance floors in the same bars or in different bars? We note that the layout of the ship is different and on the Princess web site it is hard to tell whether the wheelhouse bar actually has a dance floor, much less tell its construction material.

Thanks for any input you can give us!

Have fun on your cruise!

The Wheelhouse bar on the Crown definitely has a dance floor. There is usually a band playing before and after dinner so you can dance.

Faye and Larry are on this cruise, by some chance you may meet up with them; they are on the 28 day; they are Princess cruisers for a long, long time. They are my sisters best friends; my sis would be on this but for the horrible economic conditions. I did this cruise BALTIC in 2001; and was mesmerized with all the great ports. We did this in July; with a 7 day land tour. So following you daily and your updates are special. I check the webcam several times a day and hope to find it daytime; as most of the time it is night. How is the sailing? smooth? Too bad coolish and damp in Stockholhm. Did you tender in Stockholm............we did about 20 miles from downtown. Hope you are enjoying every minute. We have less than 45 days until GOLDEN TO HAWAII. WE ARE ELITE...........and love it............sailinsal

It's rocking, it's rolling, it's windy and it's cooooooooooooolllllllllllllld!!! Good Wednesday morning from a freezing me.

We're about an hour out of Helsinki; captain just came on and said pilot had gone out to see the dock conditions. Don't know exactly what that means except the waves are waving and the winds they are ablowin'. Too much.

To answer your questions:

Meet and Greet on Monday in the Wheelhouse had a phenomenal showing. The PSD attended as well as one of the Asst. CD's. We must have had at least 50+ on hand. I spoke at length to the PSD who seemed very impressed by our cohesive group who of course never knew each other except by their typing fingers. He promised to attend the next one on Sept. 18th.

The most travelled passengers will definitely not be us. Numero uno has over 600 days and there are others way ahead of our status. We will qualify to attend the Captain's luncheon which will be on the next sea day.

Wood floors for dancing? This non dancer only knows that Explorer's has wood floors. Other places? No clue.

Stockholm was not a tender port. I don't know if there are any tender ports at all. Usually when there are, we find priority tender tix in our cabin. Nothing there, so I'm presuming all ports are walk off.

We only ate at HC for the seafood buffet the first night. Last two nights in the diningroom. Tonight we'll be going up to Cafe Caribe so I'll notice if they are both open.

And yes........they refunded me 30 minutes of internet time.

==============================================

We'll be getting off the ship as soon as it docks; if of course it does. We are taking the shuttle into town (supposed to be $10/PP round trip; payable in cash) and will meander until we get tired. We've been to Helsinki twice before; stayed here at President Hotel for 3 days some years ago.

Tonight's show is a comic Kevin Hughes and post show there will be a movie "What Happens in Vegas." Clocks will also go ahead again tonight. Now we will have lost 2 hours.

Ding Ding....captain speaking now. Ship will take a little longer getting into port, but we will be getting in.

MUTS tonight will be showing "I Am Legend." Just the thought of sitting out there makes me shiver.

The internet manager has just advised me to copy this message because the service is down and it won't go through. I'm going to try and hopefully this will post later today. Fingers crossed.

Hi from downunder Pia.

Thank you so much for doing a live.

Looking forward to following your adventures again.

Good to hear they have new shows on board.

We will probably get to see it in a year or two down here.

Managed to grab a distant shot of your ship in Helsinki

from the bridge cam on MSC Armonia

as it came in this morning.

Hi David.........

Nice hearing from you. Yes, the MSC ship is parked right next to us.

The outside temp is approx. 55 and the winds have calmed down. Not gone, just calmed down. I've logged on again just to see whether my morning post appeared, and since it has, I'll be signing off until tomorrow in St. Petersburg. Hopefully there will be internet service, though Pam has stated we might now. Just a wait and see.

Bye.

Hi Pia!

First of all, thank you for posting, for taking your time on vacation to help everybody with such valuable information. We will see you on the ship soon - we'll be on 18 -day TA portion. I have a question for you. We just got email from Princess with entertainment information for our upcoming cruise and it says Cruise Director Kelvin Joy. Now you said Cruise Director now is Billy London. Can you find out from him if he's going to stay all the way through to FLL or he will be getting off earlier and we'll get a different cruise director for TA portion? We have sailed with Billy London last October on Royal princess (Holy Land), and Billy was wonderful to my 5-year-old daughter Annetta. She still remembers him and I told her that she'll see him again on this cruise and she's very excited, but now I am not so sure if he's actualy going to be there . If you can post the answer for me it'd be great. Also, if you'll find out he'll be leaving, please tell him hi from my daughter Annetta.

Thanks again,

Polina

Hi all.............1:00 PM Russia time, which means 5:00 EST and nobody's up yet.

Got frozen and blown away in Helsinki yesterday; top temp approx. 53. We took the Princess shuttle into town; $10 PP RT. We spent about 4 hours there doing nothing but walking. Perused Market Square and all their various stalls; bought nothing. Went in Stockmann's dept. store and bought coffee to go, which means a lb. package to take home and dark chocolate for my husband which translates into extra calories which neither of us needs. :D Oh yes, he wanted to buy a troll which resembled Travelocity's....we settle on one about 8 inches high and not too ugly.

This signal seems to be fading, so I will try to post in spurts.

Last night's comic Kevin Hughes was terrific. Lots of different material; he's very quick and sharp. We then saw Pursuit of Happyness on our cabin TV.

Your questions about bingo cards: don't know. I don't play but will try to find out.

Re: Kelvin Joy. Will inquire and let you know.

Trying to submit now and will continue if it works.

OK...so far so good.

Our bodies must have needed it, because we woke at 11:00 AM this morning. Since we had nothing planned here in St. Pete for day number one, we missed absolutely nothing but extra food.

The Norwegian Jewel is parked right next to us; big and colorful. Gaudy colorful.

Temperature outside: 48 degrees. Our bodies do not understand that kind of cold.

Quiet day on board today; there are people floating around, but not many.

On the way from Horizon Ct. MUTS was showing A Night at the Museum. There were zero watchers. MUTS tonight will have BUCKET LIST. I saw them preparing the popcorn machine last night. Bet they didn't have too many sitting out there then either.

Question from yesterday: No....Horizon Ct. closed last night while Caribe Cafe had their Bavarian night dinner. I ate red cabbage, sauerkraut and bread. Worked for me. Then got a slice of pizza; not wonderful.

Getting back to today..........only games and trivia scheduled for afternoon hours. There's to be a show tonight TROIKA DANCERS which someone on another thread had mentioned not to miss. There's also a blurb about how this show may not be suitable for children under 13. Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh. Will attene and let you know.

We're on a Princess walking tour tomorrow so may not be logging on early. Since we've experienced everything St. Pete has to offer on our previous trips, we're choosing to go on the subway and walk through a market. You'd think I wouldsee enough grocery stores when at home.

Talk to you tomorrow; internet permitting.

Thanks for checking on that. I haven't seen any complaints, so apparently this does not cause a major problem with dining room waiting times in Anytime.

It's sometimes interesting to take a look at local shops like grocery stores. It gives better insight into how others live than the usual cultural tours.

Hi Pia,

It sounds like you are having a fun time.

While you are feeling the cold air, we are awaiting a visit from Hurricaine Ike. He is planning to make himself known someplace along the Texas Coast. We are far enough inland, that we don't expect the basic hit, but, depending on where he makes land, we cound experience 4-6 inches of rain and 40-60 mph winds. I have already been to the supermarket early this morning and will be leaving for Costco in a few minutes. We are getting our 14 month old grandaughter for the weekend since her parents have a wedding to attend in Austin. All of the events are supposed to be outdoors! Tomorrow we plan on stacking all of the backyard furniture in the garage. The authorities are using San Antonio as an evacuation area. Lasts night, premature babies from Corpus Christi were flown here.

Okay, enough about me. Keep having a wonderful time on the cruise. I would love to hear how you enjoyed the subway and walking tour in St. Petersburg.

Wish we were there with you.

Bummer about Billy London, I was looking forward to a different CD. Kelvin was our CD before, I didn't care for him. He's not very entertaining. I remember that his assitant CD was fabulous and thought HE should have been the CD. I don't recall his name though....hope he's on the ship though!

Pia - thank yo uSO much for the updates, you're wonderful! :)

Internet keeps going in and out. Will try to post now.

Answers you are waiting for and some you aren't: Definitely Kelvin Joy on next cruise. Bingo tonight; hasn't been a game since day one. Soda card is $4.25/day x 10 + 15%. They're not selling coffee cards because machine is broken. Drink of the day yesterday: Raspberry Mojito and today it's Watermelon Martini. Price: $6.75. Tonight casino reopens with $3.00 face up blackjack.

Will try submitting this and resume if it works.
