Twilight Zone Posted November 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2008 Where can we have dinner when we do not like to dress up ? I've read about the buffet on the Solstice only having only pasta and pizza in the evening ? Can we order a real dinner (no burgers etc.) in our cabin. Sorry for all of you who love to dress formal, but it is just not our thing :o
cruisebluz Posted November 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2008 One of the best things about Celebrity is that you may order from the dining room menu for room service during meal hours.....steak and lobster on the balcony is awesome! We have breakfast on our balcony every morning when cruising on Celebrity..most other lines you only have a limited menu for room service, even during meal hours (HAL excluded)
kathe van Posted November 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2008 You can also have dinner at the Oceanview Cafe and you can have the same dinner as served in the main dining room. You pay a $2 surcharge for the dinner service, but it's a nice spot for dinner when you don't feel like dressing up, or if you have small kids/grandkids who won't 'last' through a long, formal dinner. The menu at the Oceanview Cafe, also known as the casual dining is not the same as that in the main dining room. It is a dinner off a menu but not the same. The only place you can get the main dining room food is in the main dining room or from room service.

Twilight Zone Posted November 28, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for your replys. I'll pop the question about the menu in the oceanvieuw cafe in one of the posts from people who are on the Solstice right now. Great to know we have a choice (balcony dining or being served in the Ocean vieuw cafe).
Schplinky Posted November 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2008 You could also likely get food at the Bistro on 5, to eat there or on your balcony.

Great to know we have a choice (balcony dining or being served in the Ocean vieuw cafe). If they have a casual dining area on the Solstice which apparently we don't know yet, it most certainly will not be the same menu as the dining room. It has never been that way on any of the Celebrity ships.
Ma Bell Posted November 28, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 28, 2008 The do have the casual dining area on Solstice and it is a different menu than the main dining room. It's a nice menu and a pleasant venue.
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted November 29, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2008 Ma Bell, what is the exact name of that casual dining area on Solstice? The only place besides the Oceanview Cafe that we could find at night for casual dining was the Bistro on Five. It carries a $5.00 per person surcharge. Ma Bell Posted November 29, 2008 #12 Share Posted November 29, 2008 It is a portion of the Oceanview Cafe. They set the tables with linens and serve dinner in the evenings.

I thought by reading all the reviews of the Solstice, it sounded like they had done away with this also. Somewhere someone wrote that they had expanded the oceanview cafe buffet for evening dining. Ma Bell Posted November 29, 2008 #18 Share Posted November 29, 2008 The only problem with dining in your cabin with a dining room meal is that unless you have a suite they bring the whole dinner at once and even though the dishes are covered, they tend to get cold. If you don't mind serving yourself and having lukewarm food, give it a try. If your cabin has butler service they will serve course by course. packed&ready! Posted November 29, 2008 #20 Share Posted November 29, 2008 Just wear something black and you will have no problem. Why should you give up a formal dinner. On my first cruise on the Century, a young man about 25 came in with a t-shirt and jeans. No one said a darn thing to him! He enjoyed his formal dinner. Ma Bell Posted November 29, 2008 #21 Share Posted November 29, 2008 It's advice like this that is a problem. It is also very possible that they will not be able to enter the dining room. I've seen people turned away at the door. It just depends on who is there when they enter.

Just FYI this option was NOT offered on the 11/30/08 Solstice sailing. I do not know why. They had pizza, pasta, sushi and on the couple of nights we ate there one night it was chicken and vegetables and the other night turkey. No tablecloths either, no $2 charge. laurebon Posted December 8, 2008 #25 Share Posted December 8, 2008 Every time we walked past Bisrto On Five there were only two (2) people eating. We started laughing after a time because we figured they were the same two people who changed wigs and clothes. It is a sit down restaurant. Never ate there and neither did anyone else. My husband said, "Heads are going to roll on this one"
