LolaLemon Posted January 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2009 I know it is a long shot, but does anyone have an unused or partially used HAL coupon booklet that they are willing to part with? Long story short, I thought we were getting one with our booking. We're not. I am upset with my travel agency with whom I booked all 4 of my cruises(and none of my land vacations). The girl who booked this cruise promised a whole lot of things that I am not actually getting. Of course, I had the emails on AOL and they were deleted and unretrievable so... who can prove it? But, I was just hoping someone might have had some coupons they couldn't use on their last trip that might still be good. In this economy, any way to save is a must! :D
RuthC Posted January 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2009 When you get to your cabin, check in the Bible for more than "Good News". Sometimes people leave their leftover coupons and various drink cards there.
olson99 Posted January 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Excuse my ignorance. What coupon books are these? I know RCL has coupon books but I did not know HAL has them. How do you get them? What is in them?

iancal Posted January 15, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Don't know if you have seen the so called coupon book. It is something akin to that useless junk mail that finds itself to our mailbox. I would not worry about not having one.
legalslave Posted January 15, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2009 I agree with iancal. You are not missing anything if you don't get a coupon book. If you get one, you'll understand. Diane

jhannah Posted January 15, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 15, 2009 For most of us, these coupon books are valuable for holding the corridor door open while we are moving our luggage out on the evening before disembarkation. That's about it.

cruise junky joan Posted January 15, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 15, 2009 I'm with Jenevive. Looking at the list of coupons offered my husband and I would use several of the ones listed. After Jen. get's hers if anyone else wants to part with one I would love to have it. Do these books expire?

LolaLemon Posted January 16, 2009 Author #19 Share Posted January 16, 2009 How do you know that you are not getting the coupon booklet? Has you TA told you? Our TA said it would be in the room, but if we get there and the coupons are not there, what can one do? Is HA responsible for putting the booklets in the room upon the TA request? We did save the emails, but who would we tell after the ship sails? We spoke with our TA and the girl who booked our cabins promised a lot of things that we're not actually getting. Funny thing is, her notes support what she should have said and not what she actually said. I took copious notes and I wouldn't have even known to ask about a coupon book if she didn't say we were getting one. I spoke with a supervisor because I wanted to clarify what onboard credits and such we were getting and those were wrong. She also said we weren't getting the coupon books. Since she believed me about the credits, she was giving us credit from her agency in addition to what we're getting from HAL, so we're almost whole. We're just $25 and three coupon books short. LOL. :) C'est la vie!
iancal Posted January 16, 2009 #20 Share Posted January 16, 2009 Seems like a lot of work for $25. and three coupon books. My guess is that if you ask your tablemates if they have any that they are not using you will end up with a couple. But ask them on the first night, because they will be retrieving them from their respective cabin garbage cans in all probablility.
Loreto Posted January 16, 2009 #21 Share Posted January 16, 2009 I showed the coupon book to my TA and let her know what I thought of the "gift." On our Black Sea cruise we were showered with gifts from this agency. This time on the Veendam we paid for an upgrade and got coupon books. She said she had no idea what they looked like, they were provided by HAL, and that she would let the HAL rep know how we felt. Karen
Candy Posted January 16, 2009 #22 Share Posted January 16, 2009 We just went Copper and have never seen a HAL coupon book. I've gotten them on RCI, but most of them were BOGO, so you had to spend to save.
RuthC Posted January 16, 2009 #23 Share Posted January 16, 2009 I've gotten them on RCI, but most of them were BOGO, so you had to spend to save. They're BOGO on HAL, too. I find a couple of the coupons of use to me (internet free minutes when you buy a package and BINGO card when you buy one), but the rest are a waste of paper. However, I would never toss the book in the trash. Just as I can use one or two coupons, someone else might find a couple they want. So I leave it in the Bible (isn't that what we're supposed to do with them?)

My guess is that if you ask your tablemates if they have any that they are not using you will end up with a couple. But ask them on the first night, because they will be retrieving them from their respective cabin garbage cans in all probablility. I'm happy now. I am only $25 SHORT now. I was a lot more "SHORT" from what they promised before. I didn't have to do any work. I just called them and told them what I was promised and what I ended up with. I am not generally a complainer, per se, but I expect to get what was promised. Now that I am almost whole - I'm dropping it. Hopefully I will have such a good time that my TA will get my repeat cruise business in 2010. :D To answer another post about BOGO coupons... that is what I live for. I like to get something extra whenever possible. Who doesn't? I'm a small business owner and even when I give my customers a price 40% better than my competitors, they still want extras. Ah, I am just excited to get out of this cold. It was -37 with the wind chill last night. Tonight it is considerably warmer at -19 with the wind chill. Woo hoo. Face peeling off as I type this.... Seayalater Posted January 18, 2009 #25 Share Posted January 18, 2009 the coupon book is worthless. We disembarked yesterday from Oosterdam, you get a free cigar IF you buy a $60 VSOP. 10% off spa treatment IF you buy the ultimate pkg for $199. We threw ours in the garbage.
