I can understand your husband. He sounds like my kind of guy. Not my kind of guy in that way, but you know what I mean.

We will definitly ask for a table for two, because I am not going to sit there and watch a bunch of other people eat salads and soups. I just want some entrees and deserts.

A table for 2 won't speed up the process. The kitchen must serve several hundred meals and they have a system. It's not like eating at your favorite diner.

For a fast meal, with no fuss or bother, enjoy one of the other dining venues onboard like the buffet, pizzeria, deli, etc.

Plan for at least 90 minutes for dinner in the main dining room.

When I was on the Spirit last Oct., they served chicken fingers for an appetizer on 1 night. And they were delicious. Some at our table ordered seconds. I bet you could get them every night if you asked.

And even if you just want entrees and dessert, don't take the experience of other courses away from your bride. There really are some excellent food choices on the menu.

Thanks for this new information that hadn't been stated many times yet.

Your the first person to mention the fact that I could go the buffet to get a fast meal. And I'm glad you did, because I didn't realize that that was a possibility. I thought there was no way to get a fast meal.

Thanks for the information this is what I was looking for. As long as I can sit there and eat chicken fingers for 30 min. while I wait on my meal I'll be happy. And you are right my future wife will want the "fancy" food.

Hey, KOC, is this a "real" issue or are you just enjoying getting some of these folks riled up ? As for me, I LOVE to stir the pot. Brings out the Carnival cheerleaders in record numbers.

I want to be able to go do something else I don't want to have to just sit there and be bored.

Be careful about floating the idea you will be bored with your wife's company. You're probably gonna have years and years of her company, don't get too bored to quick. You might be wearing those chicken fingers.

As you will be on your honeymoon, I would think an hour here or there to enjoy your wife's company would be enjoyable. But, what do I know.

This is a real issue. I want to be able to go to the dinning room, but I want to be able to order my food and get it when I want it. That does not seem unreasonable to me. I'm going to dress up, I wouldn't think about going to the dinning room in jeans and t-shirt. I feel like I should be able to go to the dinning room and order what I want to eat, recieve it within 20 - 30 min. eat it and get out. I only eat entrees and desserts. It's a real issue I didn't realize it was going to be this much of a problem. What get's me is why different people keep saying the same thing over and over.

The part about my future wife was a joke. I love her and won't have a problem talking to her for 90 min. I would just like to move on to a show or go somewhere else on the boat.

But thanks for the information. I found what I was looking for:

Basically I should ask for a table for 2, and order appetizers off the kids menu while my wife eats fancy food. Then when it's time for appetizer just order a steak or burger every night. Then down a few desserts. That's my plan. I will also probably bring a few cans of soda with me. Since I'll be wearing a suit or tuxedo every night hopefully my dress will make up for bringing the soda with me.

Thanks to all those who gave useful info!

To quote Bugs Bunny "What a maroon".

"Dinner in the dining room is going to take about 90 minutes no matter ho hard you try to rush. If you are in a hurry eat on the Lido deck." was in the very first reply to your post.

O, and it's a dining room, not a dinning room.

Are you serious?

It looks like you may be the maroon. It was pretty obvious that I was being sarcastic. That information had been posted about 5 times already but for some reason G'ma decide to post basic knowledge. Of course I could go to the lido deck, I already knew that.

You need to lighten up bit sir.

We're just off the Victory. Seatings were 6pm and 8pm. They always kicked us out by 7:30 (we had the 6pm seating).

By the way, in case you didn't get my message to you about the cat 11: there were 4 outlets, and we never used the power strip I brought. Tons of closet space; coat hangers; and drawers. We didn't even use them all.

VIP embarkation was a joke, because of some customs problem they were having. It took about 4 or 5 hours to board.

VIP debarkation was a breeze. We went to the Carribean Lounge and waited to be called (zone #1). They called us at 8am; we left the ship; found our luggage VERY easily; and grabbed a taxi to the airport. We were at the airport by 8:30am.

Knights,

This will also be a great opportunity for you to try things that you might never think you would. Even if you look at the menu and say, "EWWWWW, no way, you can always just take a bite and be done. The shows are always in line with the dining times, so you will never miss anything. There is so much going on all the time, you might look forward to having the relaxing time in the dining room. Also, sodas are free in the dining room, as are cappuccinos and espressos if your wife would like one of those after dinner. And you don't need need to wear a tux or suit every night. In fact, on casual nights, you may feel out of place. But, then again, if you like to wear suits, go ahead.

I believe that part is not correct. I'm pretty sure you pay for soft drink in the Dining room:). On a Disney cruise, its free in the dining room and near the pool:).

  • 2 weeks later...

It is not that the food is really fancy, they just make it sound that way. You really should expand your eating horizons, you are missing out on a lot of great food! As a medical provider, I can hear your arteries crying right now even though you are only 26. It gets harder to break bad eating habits as you get older. Sorry, didn't mean to lecture.

So, if I understand this, you want to put on your tux and strut around, run in and grab some food, and then????? A formal dinner, which wearing a tux suggests, is a leisurely dinner. Chatting. Commenting on the food and the surroundings. Having a real and serious conversation about something of importance. A cup of coffee and perhaps an afterdinner drink? What you are suggesting sounds like wearing a tux to McD's. And if you and your bride can't find something to talk about on your honeymoon- maybe you should reconsider the marriage????? Relax- enjoy-the casino and shows will be there after a nice dinner.

Some of the appetizers, as has been stated, include chicken tenders, grilled chicken strips, and fried mozzarella. You can get a huge plate of fries ANY night, all you have to do is ask. You can also get a burger, hot dog, or pizza in the dining room - the waiter may look at you funny, but you can certainly order that. If you like boiled shrimp, you can also get shrimp cocktail every night.

I find that the dinners go more quickly since the new menus have come out - fewer people order appetizer AND salad now that it's all in one section on the menu. On our last two cruises, we were done with dinner in less than an hour - and it went by quickly. The courses are served rather quickly, and if you check out the menus prior to dinner and have a table for two, you can order immediately and you will be served much more quickly.

In our 13 cruises on Carnival, we have never spent 90 minutes in the dining room. Even when we have appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert, we're done and out of there before the waiters do their little singing/dancing thing. Dinner is one of our favorite parts of the day on a cruise, but we like to eat and get out of there before the singing begins, lol.

The two dining rooms are correct and these were the times in the past on ships with two dining rooms. Now I believe that both dining rooms start service at the same time.

I also believe that the doors are closed 15 minutes after the start of dinner so you might not be able to enter if you arrive at 6:45.

You are right about all dining rooms starting service at the same times but on the Triumph last month they certainly didn't close the doors.

We were seated upstairs and there was a lady downstairs that would come to dinner 30 - 45 minutes late every night.

We'd be finishing up our entrees and getting ready for dessert when she'd be just sitting down.

Bill
