honeywell Posted February 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2009 I am travelling with my sister and my two children, ages 8 and 10, on the Independence of the Seas on April 4th. The recent price drops have given me some attractive choices... Remember we are talking about a group of four with two young kids...we would have to split up at night with one adult and one child in each cabin. Can't just put them to bed and stay up to watch a late movie without that connecting door.. For you aft fans, how many of you would give up #1400 on Independence to take two D2's on deck 6 and recoup a $1500 refund? Is real estate more important to you? Would two bathrooms but no connection be an issue? Would you switch? Yes or no?
marci22 Posted February 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2009 With older kids I would switch, but with kids that age, if you are not going to split the adults between the rooms, I would not change.
crusinmama06 Posted February 17, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Is that the one with the wraparound balcony? I am trying to work it out in my head. I had 1406, dead center. So wouldn't that make 1400 the wraparound? If it is, I'd have to say that I wouldn't need two bathrooms. :D
honeywell Posted February 17, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Hi Michelle - I don't think the balcony wraps on this one. Just a large corner with part of the structure providing shade - unless someone here has stayed in 1400/1700 and can correct me. Saving $1500 is looking pretty attractive.. cb at sea Posted February 17, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2009 If the parents had to sleep apart, then no---if you could get connecting and put the kids in one room, parents in another---that's the way to go! Adults NEED privacy! I would never have booked 1 room to start with!
honeywell Posted February 17, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Not the parents going - just two grown sisters so we don't mind being apart at night or sharing the oversized 1400 cabin.. Just a point of clarification - there weren't two connecting cabins available at the time I booked and there aren't any now.

You're right, I just looked at my pictures. And in that case, I would probably drop down to 2 D1s and save the money
lady_cruiser Posted February 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted February 17, 2009 $1500 in today's economy would make a big difference in my check book so my answer would have to be Yes I would change cabins. Good luck on making your decision and happy cruising.
klass2 Posted February 17, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 17, 2009 I think I would too. The only reason I would hesitate is the lack of non-connecting rooms.
honeywell Posted February 17, 2009 Author #12 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Katie, that is my main hesitation too. (okay - I really hate giving up a corner aft on Deck 10 but I have to be realistic, right?) Good to hear views from parents to help me decide.. krmlaw Posted February 17, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Absolutely I would switch. Thats a HUGE price difference, and you'd have double the space. Also - dont rely on rooms on the webpage, call RCCL as they have MUCH more choices than what they post.
CruisinManiac Posted February 17, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 17, 2009 How would your sister's children feel about being separated at night? If I were in your situation, I'd keep the aft, and also get a D2. Saving $1500, plus having that second bath, is an easy to me.
honeywell Posted February 17, 2009 Author #15 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Good questions, but they are mine and they wouldn't care if they were separated at night. They would fight over who gets to share a room with "Mimi".. To switch the D1 to a double and get another D2 would be a financial wash - no refund, and there aren't any D2s anywhere close so that wouldn't do me any good...I would still be going from one cabin to another. Cruise_Couple Posted February 17, 2009 #16 Share Posted February 17, 2009 My opinion is that it is not about the money but the age of the kids. They need to be in connecting cabins or the same cabin. Just my thoughts.
cruiserbryce Posted February 17, 2009 #17 Share Posted February 17, 2009 certainly would...more space and less $, you bet

tex_toby Posted February 17, 2009 #20 Share Posted February 17, 2009 I would change in a heartbeat. I could go on another cruise for $1500. No-brainer in my book. Think about it in the other direction....Would you be willing to spend an additional $1500 to upgrade to the aft? Not me, and I love aft balconies! ;):D tex

With the prices being what they are there will be alot of people changing cabins. You should be able to find some cabins very close together, you just have to keep watching the available cabins. You have 3 categories to watch, D2, E1 and E2. Something close together will turn up I'm sure. Jimbo:)
mercuryfan Posted February 28, 2009 #22 Share Posted February 28, 2009 We had room 1400 on Freedom and Liberty. I would never in a million years give up my aft balcony.
