Keep in mind that the ones closer to the pier are also on the busiest stretch of beach. Closer to the pier, the food, etc! The ones at the far end are much quieter and make you feel like you truly are on your own private island. :)

CC Member Skywalkervader posted this link to his photo lineup some time back. It's the best I've seen and I still use it. Just click anywhere on the photo and it will enlarge.

It's a good idea to download this link to your PC and have it there for future reference. I have used it many times.

We will be cruising the Carribean next Jan. with two of our older g-daughters and we were thinking about a cabana. I can't find the prices for them. Does anyone know what they are? I wouldn't think of letting them off the ship without me, grandma's rules,:D and since I can't walk too far the closer ones sound good to me. Thanks.

From what I've read, the cabanas cost $249 for up to 4 people. For that price, you get the use of the cabana for the day, snorkel equipment for 4 people, floating mats, and they stock the fridge with some soft drinks, water and you get some munchies (chips and salsa and veggies I think).

If you have more than 4 people, there is a surcharge of about $40-50/person to cover the extra snorkel gear, floating mat and extra drinks/munchies.

BBQ lunch is included (for anyone - not just those in the cabanas), but you'll pay for rentals of any water equipment and alcoholic drinks.

The first cabana is wheelchair accessible, and the first 5 are relatively close to the bathrooms and food pavillion, but the ones further along the beach offer more privacy and a quieter area.

They do book up quickly from what I've read, so it pays to keep checking to see when they're available for booking. The people at HAL told me that they usually open up 4-6 months before a cruise, but that really seems to vary.

Usually HMC "excuisions" (which include cabana rentals) open around 6 months before the cruise. However, they *can* open far in advance of that, and be sold out at the 6 month point! Check daily....I'm at 6 months out, and nothing yet.

This is a great picture when it comes to looking at the cabanas, but the colors are not listed exactly as HAL lists them on their site. I wish HAL would put the "number" next to the color on their site. It would make it a lot easier to figure it out.

Here's the colors HAL uses to describe them on their website...

Half Moon Cay Cabanas

1. Taupe

2. Blue

3. Turquoise (There’s a restroom behind the first three cabanas.)

4. Orange (one hammock between the orange and sky blue cabana)

5. Sky Blue

6. Purple

7. Peach (one hammock between the peach & pink-closer to peach)

8. Pink (one-maybe two between the pink & eggshell-closer to pink)

9. Eggshell (one hammock on each side of the eggshell-both close to eggshell) There’s a restroom behind the eggshell cabana.

10. Green (3 hammocks centered between the green & gray cabanas)

11. Gray (one hammock -on the yellow side, but close to the gray)

12. Yellow (3 hammocks centered between the yellow and terracotta)

13. Terracotta

14. Red

15. Violet

good luck on color selection! we thought we had grey...but ended up with light purple! It's best to select a color that can't be re-intrepreted...like orange. Last time, we went with red to make certain we got the cabana we wanted.

As for the Grand cabana...they serve you special food (not just the bar-b-q food) and you get all your drinks free.

Butler service on the cabanas will provide transport of all your "stuff" (beach bag, etc.) plus keeping your drinks filled and getting you lunch from the Bar-b-q. They will actually come out to your float and deliver your drink to you. tip them well!

Butler service gets you a special menu, not the BBQ lunch, unless something has changed recently.

The special menu includes lobster or filet mignon (I believe in a sandwich) and some other items. Very good 3 course lunch. Plus chips, dip, fruit and a few other things. Also unlimited drinks. And, as mentioned, very good and personnal service. One of our favorite pics is the champagne service floating on our mats.

Cool! I lived in Mississauga for a couple of years before moving out to Cambridge. I'm originally from Montreal and went to Toronto for post-grad program.

I don't know if the lobster is in a sandwich or not, but the filet most definitely is not. It's a delicious steak, beautifully cooked and served. :)

Here's the menu that was offered this past February. We were very disappointed when we were served shrimp salad instead of lobster salad sandwiches. I had lost 65 pounds prior to the cruise, and let me tell you, I was thinking of that lobster salad for the better part of a year and I was disappointed when we didn't receive them with our lunch. The butlers had no clue why they were using shrimp salad, although I'm sure there's a reason they didn't offer the lobster sandwiches that day, I was still sad. The lobster salad was soooo good the first time we had a cabana...oh well, what can you do? :)

HMC Cabana Butler Menu

Exotic Fruit Skewers

Mini Lobster Club Sandwich

Gazpacho

Choice of Brochette BBQ Jumbo Prawns, or Brochette Citrus Chicken Breast, or 5 OZ Cajun Sterling Silver Filet Mignon

Choice of Noordam ‘Drunken Whale’ Fresh Fruit in Myer’s Rum, or Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Coulis

I wish I had seen the line up prior to my booking a cabana. I found a color map on a site and thought I knew the color of cabana/location I wanted. I reserved violet, thinking it was where the purple one is. However, after thinking about the comment about being down the beach and seeming to be alone on a private island, I do not think I will change the reservation - the last one on the beach seems like a nice place. It is our honeymoon afterall.;)

I did make one confusing mistake when trying to book a cabana. Whenthe site asked for passengers going, I clicked both DW and me. The site said there was only room for one passenger, and the other could be waitlisted. I tried several other cabanas and got the same response. So was every cabana rented by a group of 3? When I called HAL I was set straight - since each cabana can hold 4, you only need to book with one passenger name. OK, so I am new at this.:o

The price for Jan 2010 is $299.

It is confusing when it comes to booking a cabana online. HAL should put the cabana number along with the color. You'll love your cabana, and the last one isn't really that far away ... and it much more private.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! :)
