MadScientist Eric, Since i'm italian i think i can answer your question as to why all the captains on Carnival seem to be italian. Well, its not just a carnival thing. u see italians have been navigating the seas for centuries and sailing is a distinct part of the italian culture. my grandfather was a navigator for many years in Italy and would only come home for 1 month out of the year to see his family. Italy has many of the world's famous ports and some of the best "scuole navali" -nautical schools- in the world as well. Also, I think that a majority of the cruise ships, if not all, are built in monfalcone, italy by the Fincantieri Navali. Therefore, while u may encounter a non-italian captain in the future i think it's safe to say that the majority of captains and command staff that u will see on your cruises will be italian.

 

As for the captain list, when I sailed on the Paradise last year the Captain was Vito Garuccio and last week the captain of the Glory was Francesco La Fauci - he is really a great captain. It wa s truly a pleasure to speak with him on several occasions.

After looking at the pictures I knew for sure. Antonio was the chief engineer on the Glory last week. He was on board with his two children.

The Valor captain is Agostino Fazio........I just came off this cruise today. :) I think that is a change for the Valor.

 

Also, Josh Riffe was the cruise director on my cruise............where did brent mitchell go that everyone was talking about??

I stole the 300 some page book on the Pride in March "Dont tell CCL", and it lists all the captains names & cheif engineers.... ( AS OF WHEN THIS BOOK WAS PUBLISHED ) It also has all their photos but I'm not sure how to get them on this site....:(

May 18th was Francesco La Fauci as the Captain. I will have to see if I can find my funtimes from the first alaska sailing of this year to see if I have any of the other information.
