houch Posted July 12, 2009 #26 Share Posted July 12, 2009 I have a very small white shoulder strap purse I have with me while walking around on the ship. I need those reading glasses for price tags and menus, my very small camera just in case, cigarettes, a couple bucks in case I stop in the casino. With it over my shoulder both hands are free and I am not likely to set it down and leave it somewhere. I don't use it on the tours. I have a similar black one for the formal nights. DH stays home as he doesn't like to travel, thus don't have his pockets to use!

Rare Kinkacruiser Posted July 12, 2009 #28 Share Posted July 12, 2009 I take one...a black clutch, that suits most of my outfits. Essential for specs, door key and digital camera when going to dinner. My hair and makeup are fine for the few hours indoors, so I don't worry about taking those personal items. SeaTeach Posted July 13, 2009 #29 Share Posted July 13, 2009 I do take a clutch purse with me. Especially on formal night. Where else would I keep my room key? I purchased a small gold, beaded clutch a few years ago, which is my standard formal purse. I was given a beautiful hand beaded clutch from Vietnam by the parents of a student, which is beyond beautiful, but weighs a mega ton. I just can't seem to bring myself to packing it. I need the "tonnage":) for other stuff. For non-formal nights I carry a small tootsie-roll Louis V. with a long leather thong. The bag barely holds a tube of lipstick, room key, and a retractable make-up brush, but that's the idea-small.:)
2sunny Posted July 13, 2009 #30 Share Posted July 13, 2009 I do always use a evening purse, I like carrying my sea pass and I always carry some cash, as I prefer using cash in the casino. I also carry a small mirror, lipstick and a small brush or comb. During the day, on the ship I "always" use my lanyard. I have the kind that has a plastic pouch at the end I keep my sea pass in it and usually I keep a few $20 bills tucked in there also. In case I walk through the casino and some slot machine calls my name ;-) :D
Iluvmypuggle Posted July 13, 2009 #31 Share Posted July 13, 2009 I spend a kings ransom on my bags, so they're coming with on on my cruise.!'' Are you comfortable checking your expensive handbags at the pier? I rarely take any expensive bags on a cruise just because I don't like the idea of my bags sitting on a pier, outside my bedroom door for a couple hours, etc. I do purchase travel insurance. Not sure if that covers designer bags. lol. BUT, I leave mine home BC I don't like them to be unattended in my luggage.

Liv4cruzin Posted July 14, 2009 #37 Share Posted July 14, 2009 Becky, The minute I saw The Best of Everything I knew you were from Naples!! Have you been to All that Glitz yet? It isn't as good, but still fun. Susan (Naples 7 months--Indiana the other 5) I've seen the ad in the paper; but haven't taken the time. It's hard to go in BofE & not buy a bag. Fortunately, I'm seeing the same things over & over; so maybe I've already bought every style that interests me. That is until they find some new suppliers. Kathy, you're going to squell w/ joy when visit the first time. They have small black velvet trays you carry around w/ you & put in what you want to buy. You lay those inexpensive pieces on that black velvet; & it's the same effect as shopping in an expensive jewelers. Without the guilt!
biziasabee Posted July 14, 2009 Author #38 Share Posted July 14, 2009 You ladies are wonderful and I appreciate all of your inputs. I am going to have to find something because I forgot, if I want to read I need reading glasses as well . I am going to exchange two pairs of shoes after work so I hope I can find something then. Thanks everyone, this has been a very enjoyable read. Azure Moon Posted July 16, 2009 #39 Share Posted July 16, 2009 For all day use, I found a leather-like medium-sized gray colored clutch on clearance at Target for $4-something. Took it on my last two cruises and loved it because it held a few health & beauty products, sail & sign card, change purse, driver's license, passport, a couple of blank sheets of paper and a couple loose pages of Suduko puzzles, and my thin paperback book (never know when the mood will hit or a delay happens and need something to kill some time :)). I usually carry a shoulder bag but found the clutch to be more flexible because I could lay it on the table rather than on the seat or floor. It was also more comfy laying it on my lap when lying on a lounge chair or sitting in the theater. When going into port, I just through it into my big tote bag with beach towel, etc. For dressy evenings, I have a black clutch purse purchased on one of the cruises. kittyluvrnurse Posted July 23, 2009 #40 Share Posted July 23, 2009 See, I feel like I need my lipstick and camera (along with Seapass) at all times when we're out in the evening. With such beautiful ships, everything is a photo op! :) I've recently bought a Cole Haan wristlet bag in black leather that can go both formal and casual. I think that's all I'm bringing unless I find something in pewter leather between now and then..

biziasabee Posted July 24, 2009 Author #42 Share Posted July 24, 2009 I am having trouble finding one I can afford. I have been looking at Ross but nothing there yet. I cannot afford the mall prices - right now I am the only one in the family with a job so I cant spend more than $15 to $20 and would really like to find a Ross bargain perhaps under $10. We have a new Target store opening on Sunday so I will look there this weekend. Any other ideas on where to find an affordable evening clutch?

They have good sales frequently, so wait until they start a whatever % off sale.

I've seen evening bags on their website, but not in-store. Also, I bought one at Amazon.com. - $15.00. Just do a search for evening bags, different selections from different sites will pop up. Lynn the Cruiser Posted July 24, 2009 #46 Share Posted July 24, 2009 I take lots of evening bags with me. I love to match my dresses!!!! I found a really cute brown straw clutch with hot pink flowers that matched alot of my tropical dresses. Then I have ones for all my formal dresses. I have a Coach one with the wrist strap for day time on the ship and a Vera Bradly wrist one that just fits my seapass card and a few $ for the casino! I need to always have my seapass card, some $(casino), tissues, lipstick with me.

I think there is one in Orlando and Miami and I know there is one at the Tampa airport. Wonderful little evening bags for $10!:)
laurspag Posted July 27, 2009 #48 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I always take a nice clutch for formal night that goes along with the outfit. For other nights, I carry a small black leather purse that has a dressy look, but not formal. During the day, I have a small bag with one of those long straps, but I use it off the ship, not on it. Most of my outfits have a pocket for my seapass card. As to where to get them inexpensively, there are a few options I haven't seen posted here. I have two beautiful clutches I use for formal nights and the like that I got at estate sales. I don't think either were more than $5.00. Plus, they are unique and can have a wonderful, timeless feel. The other thing to look for are some of the local antiquie shops. We have a woderful antique store (located in a gorgeous Victorian home) near us. I saw at least 20 diffierent purses there this weekend, and I think the most expensive was $22.00. They were also having 20% off the vintage room, where these were located. Be creative! Where there is a will to cruise, there is a way....
sail7seas Posted July 27, 2009 #49 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I'm never without a purse. Day/night; I always have a small purse with me on a cruise. I love small evening purses that are just big enough to hold my lipstick, a tiny brush, reading glasses, cruise card, tissues and sometimes a tiny bottle or purell. biziasabee Posted July 27, 2009 Author #50 Share Posted July 27, 2009 Thanks everyone for all the ideas - I had intended on shopping this past weekend but between a lightning strike and fire right outside of my house Friday night and a horrible migraine the rest of the weekend I did not even leave the house or look at a computer. I have 26 days left so I am sure I will find something by then. I am so excited to go on our first cruise and celebrate 25 years with such a wonderful man. I just know this is going to be the best trip ever.
