flattop223 Posted August 26, 2009 #26 Share Posted August 26, 2009 I don't think you should have to be stuck with the buffet just because you dont want to dress up. I would agree that there should be some things not allowed, like cut off shorts or jeans or any other pants that have had the cuffs walked off rather than hemed. now if they wanted to serve the MDR menu in a 3rd location and state that is for more casual crowd I would think that would be fair... but then they better make that a big location and they could probably reduce the size of the MDR alot because alot fewer people would be eating there. Interesting thought. On our Maasdam cruise five or six years ago the buffet served the same menu as the main dining room. You ordered your main course in the buffet line and they prepared it for you and delivered it to your table in the buffet. Frankly, it was better there than in the dining room, because it was prepared for you, not precooked by the hundreds and shipped en masse from the kitchen to the dining room, where it waited at the servers' station until your table was ready for that course to be served. big green Posted August 26, 2009 #28 Share Posted August 26, 2009 ******WRONG************ Please try again. I agree, they need a better policy and should enforce it. Anyone who wants to get dressier than jeans or shorts, must eat at the buffet. The hole in your logic is that people who choose YOUR preferred style of dress should get better service. If you just want them to be alone, so they can enjoy the ambiance, then we could probably shut-off the Blue Lagoon for you, and you could be dressed-up there as much as you want...overlooking the atrium, with art, and music and grand staircases. The rest of us slobs will just eat at the MDR, where we're fine with whatever anyone else is wearing....because that's THEIR business. \ I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion--I think we should follow the dress guidelines as stated on the NCL web site and everything should be fine-- this ( what is on the NCL web site) should be enforced by NCL or they should change their published guidelines. iheartbda Posted August 26, 2009 #29 Share Posted August 26, 2009 .......... I've received this "eye treatment" on several NCL cruises in several pay restaurants. Is that some special they're running....get an eye treatment with dinner? The poor maitre d' must be very busy trying to give eye treatments AND run the dining room. They must have been very short-handed in the spa to have the maitre d' doing spa services.
melthemadhatter Posted August 26, 2009 #30 Share Posted August 26, 2009 I don't give a hoot! I dress nicely for dinner in the MDR's and specialty restaruants.... The rest of the time I don't care... I really don't care what anyone else wears as long as they practice general hygene. On vacation and otherwise,I am looking at my wonderful husband anyway.. :D ZonePH said it best: "The worse you dress, the better we look." :D

sunedaze Posted August 26, 2009 #32 Share Posted August 26, 2009 I voted I love NCL's dress code. I like to dress up for dinner but my husband perfers a nice pair of jeans and nice shirt. But honestly. When I am on vacation I dress in what makes me happy. I do not care or even really notice what others are wearing. Because just like on my vacation I like to do what makes me happy I feel others should be allowed to do what makes them happy. Some people are jeans and polo's while others are suite & tie and evening gown people. But what ever makes you happy. You should not have to dress a certain way to please others. We have cruised other lines but the wear what you want dress code is what keeps us sailing NCL.

WinterSky Posted August 26, 2009 #37 Share Posted August 26, 2009 I am not able to select any of the poll options. There isn't any option for people who may like what the Resort Casual dress policy intended but are concerned that it is becoming more 'casual' than 'resort'. I don't love it --- as I see more 'casual' and less 'resort' at dinner. I don't hate it --- because I definitely don't prefer the formal dress policies of other lines. I don't find it confusing --- but from its interpretation, I suspect that others do. and I DO give a hoot.
RedHeadTexan Posted August 26, 2009 #38 Share Posted August 26, 2009 I love, love, love it! Every time DH looks at trying another cruise line and sees their dress code, we always end ups back with NCL. The thought of wearing a tie sends DH into a tizzy, and big tall men should never be forced into a tizzy.:D Basically I love cruising and if the deal breaker with my husband is being able to wear jeans and never wear a coat and tie, then I love the NCL dress code. I would of voted dressed up. But since we have to cut back to 1 suitcase a person. I voted I dont care

Well, last year we went in a cruise with "formal nights" but since we have small children we didn't want to do that and also we didn't want to pack all the stuff. So we just skipped those and had dinner by the pool in one of the nights. The other night our waiter just told us the night before that it was informal night the next day and he insisted on that so we just trusted him and came down for dinner without too much checking. We were really embarrassed 'cause everyone was all dressed up and he had made a confusion about the days of formal nights... well, much to our surprise the staff in the dining room came after us when we were leaving and asked us what was the problem and why we were leaving... I told them we didn't know it was formal night but they insisted we should sit down and that it was no big deal and "besides, you are very elegant" :) This was really nice of them and we were so embarrassed, we just sat down and had our dinner while trying to remain unnoticed with all the men in the tuxedos... :o So we ended up only missing one formal night. But anyway, all this to say, even when there are formal nights in some cruiselines, there are always other dining options for those who don't whish to dress up. I don't think people have to run away from cruiselines that have the dresscodes, they allways have options for everyone.

fleet Posted August 27, 2009 #47 Share Posted August 27, 2009 Voted confused. We've dressed up and seen kids with baggy shaggy shorts turned away, only to be admitted later seated with with their dressed up parents. I just feel sorry for the cruise people who have to make the calls on who can or cannot be seated. Long and short of it, you can dress however you want and do whatever as long as you can leave a large enough tip.

rian90 Posted August 27, 2009 #50 Share Posted August 27, 2009 I did not vote since I have not yet sailed NCL. However, one of the reasons we chose NCL rather than another cruiseline was because of the less formal attire necessary. Yes, I enjoy dressing up but I am just not good at it! In Florida, the opportunity to dress up in formal clothes is rare unless you belong to some fancy country club or go to charity benefits. Since we are not of that 'set' and prefer camping and rock and roll to fancy balls, we simply are not equipped for formal nights. On our last cruise, I spent a long time choosing a dress and forced a friend to come shopping with me. We picked out a lovely dress but I felt very under dressed and awkward on formal night. I will never wear the dress again probably. Now, it was great for my daughters and they looked lovely in their dresses so it was worth it for that reason. Our next cruise will be without the kids and while I might bring a nice skirt or dressy pants, I don't have to bring a formal. I did just buy one for my husband's company holiday party...he has a new job so this is a new experience...but I suspect I will look under dressed and awkward at that party as well and probably be miserable the entire time. But of course, that is his job so its important. Who knows..maybe the dress will look so wonderful that I will bring it on the cruise.....I doubt it though. :p So I can't wait to sail on NCL and feel comfortable. I will dress nice and not wear jeans to the dining room, not because I think its wrong but because its fun to look nice sometimes. But at least I won't have to feel frumpy or look like a fish out of water because I don't have beads on my dress or a chiffon layer floating behind me or three inch heels. :) Thanks NCL!
