TrinaLC Posted September 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2017 We are YC so can get an early escort. I know 10:00 would be fine for Carnival and NCL based on experience. How about MSC? Next direct flight isn't until 4 pm. Sent from my iPad using Forums
renysmom Posted September 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2017 The problem is that if customs decides to board the ship and do an inspection or if one crew member has the wrong paperwork they can, will and have "locked" down a ship and no one gets off until customs approved the ship. This is why the suggest you never fly our before 12/1 pm. We have a 4:00 pm home, we will rent a car at the port, drive to the beach and then go to the airport in the afternoon. This way we aren't stuck at the airport with all our luggage.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2017 Yes, 10AM flights are absolutely fine.....UNTIL they are NOT! We also have a little experience (far more then 100 cruises) and understand that everyone on a ship that is porting in a US port...is at the complete mercy of CBP (Customs and Border Protection). These are the folks that must first "clear" the ship before anyone is allowed to disembark. While this has not been a problem on most of our US based cruises, there have been plenty of exceptions. The worst case happened at the Port of Miami when our Carnival cruise (a few years ago) was not cleared until around 9:30. We have had other instances of our ship not being cleared until 8 or later. Most of the time this happens because CBP has an issue such as a missing crew member. We have been on other cruises that simply docked late because of various issues such as adverse weather, mechanical problems. pilot issues, etc. So, if you want to gamble on a 10 am flight explore the options (and the cost) if you were to miss that flight. Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted September 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2017 What hank said. I cruised Divina twice last year. The first time I was at Miami airport by 8:30 AM. The second time we were the first to debark at 10 AM as we had a yacht club escort. The rest of the day was a cluster with many people missing their flights. Have a back up plan and you're fine. They all depend on USA customs  plus one car accident or construction(specially now after hurricane) on your way to airport and you will miss flight . I would not do it. TrinaLC Posted September 14, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted September 14, 2017 You all convinced me! I booked the 4:00 p.m. flight. Got first class for less than $100 more so that will ease some of the "pain". We'll plan on being the last couple dragged off the ship!

AZbeachboy Posted September 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 18, 2017 I'm glad someone is getting things worked out in a very positive way. We always schedule for later flights and take the time to look around.
js Posted September 21, 2017 #10 Share Posted September 21, 2017 My dh will be picking up my mom and me in Miami after our Seaside cruise so we can drive to Orlando to watch my son play baseball. My dh lands in MIA about 9 am and will rent a car and get us. What is the latest we can get off the ship? Im thinking we will get off and take an Uber to InterContinental or somewhere to sit in lobby and have a bite to eat or relax while we wait for him. Also, OP, I know you booked your flight for 4 pm and I wouldnt have booked the 10 am either. If I were in FLL, MAYBE, but not out of MIA. Happy planning! Thanks.
