wolfpackmom Posted August 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2015 We are going on our first Alaska cruise next week (Celebrity Solstice) and boy and I excited but I can't image the activities for the At Sea days--surely not sitting by the pool and soaking up the sun as it must be too cold for that in the second week of September! I would love to know from veteran Alaskan cruisers what their favorite activities are for the At Sea days. I image it must be quite different from a summer cruise in the islands. Thanks for your help.
ProfessorandtheGeek Posted August 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) I have been on several Caribbean cruises, and on sea days I find a chair, a good book, soak up the rays, and watch the water go by. Hubby and I have agreed that on our Alaskan cruise that we will find a good vantage point on the ship. There we will take our cameras, watch for wildlife, and spend the day taking lots of pictures. We may even take in a lecture of upcoming ports/excursions of interest. Just as long as it does not take us away from some great wildlife action. chipmaster Posted August 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2015 Once in Alaska the scenery is beautiful ( weather permitting )... Then what we do on all our cruise exercise / eat ( a lot ) and then the standard ship board activities ...
Budget Queen Posted August 30, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2015 You have a golden opportunity to attend Brent Nixon's presentations. Especially for a first timer- the information will greatly enhance the Alaska experience. I don't see a ship as, any more than "transportation", so, I'm definitely coming from a different priority. I sail Alaska for what is outside a ship. So, my days invest a lot of time, being outside with my binoculars. I have an advantage of knowing specific areas and routes. I did an extensive post with scenic sailing information a while ago. What is nice about cruising is, it's up to you how you wish to spend your time, all the way from taking a nap to trivia/casino/bingo to enjoying scenery. Plenty of options. :)

xlxo Posted August 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 31, 2015 I bring DVD's with me for cruise sea days.... the ship activities were enough to keep me from looking at the discs. Check the daily newsletters for various lectures and movies to your keep your mind entertained. Of course there's all those AYCE (all you can eat) diversions to be balanced with countless laps around the deck and stairs.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 31, 2015 We enjoy lectures, the fitness center and also the beauty of where we are sailing in Alaska. Keith
watchdiva Posted August 31, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Spending time on our balcony watching the wake and spending time in the spa....our idea of nirvana! I load my iPad with books and read and then read some more. We play scrabble (I have a travel sized game), watch D D's and just be together. For Alaska we will have our binoculars at the ready for some amazing wildlife and glacier viewing. If you see a crazy lady in the spa with binoculars standing at the floor to ceiling windows.....yup, that would be me!
