Traveling on Breakaway in June and thinking of booking the Cirque Dreams and Dinner. Found out today that dinner is only choice of two items. Is this true? Heard show was not all the good. Epic travelers can respond to this if they tried it.

We really enjoyed the show on the Epic. There was no choice with the food, the menu was a set one. I'll see if I can find my copy! We would have paid the cost JUST to see the show! If I'm honest, the waiters serving and me trying to eat, was a bit of a distraction.........but the food was fine......it's always personal choice anyway, isn't it? :)

We are going on Epic in December and plan to attend the Cirque show. We had prepared ourselves that the meal wasn't going to be up to much but we were going for the show anyway. However, the above posted menu actually looks pretty good?! My whole family (all 6 of us) loves beef tenderloin. Has this menu changed recently?

We loved the dinner. I am highly allergic to shellfish and seafood so I just received more of the beef tenderloin. It tasted just as good as the filet at LeBistro. We all enjoyed the menu. The chicken satay was yummy. Loved the cupcake trio. Our food was cooked perfectly and nice and hot. We sat along the back row in the booths (non premium) seating.

I think this is a dreadful choice for a Table D'Hote Menu. Shellfish allergy is common and extremely dangerous. Two shellfish items on an already limited menu - poor choice I'd say. My daughter is highly allergic to seafood, ie trace - not a lot of thought went into this. Not impressed. They could easily have chosen a fantastic menu which is low risk to all - for a set menu - not very clever.

In regard to your comments, my shellfish/seafood allergy is life threatening. I cannot tell you how much NCL accommodates me in this regard. Never have had any issues. Anyone with this type of allergy has their food prepared in a separate kitchen. What I have to watch is sitting too close to my husband who is eating the seafood. Yes, having crab legs or a lobster tail shell just sitting on a plate on the table causes me to react. I also take a Benadryl prior to going into these situations.

NCL is trying to take care of everyone. If you didn't have some kind of seafood/shellfish on the menu, those that only eat that would be complaining. And then you have those that would say what am I paying extra for? I want lobster.

Think thats why I say its an odd menu for a Table D'hote as like you, we would not order shellfish of any kind if our daughter was at the table. I am GF so thats another issue  - But yeah, thats great they work with guests with allergies. I have an unknown allergy which in a way is scarier, have already had throat closure with it, but havent yet discovered what it is, so I - like you - carry Benadryl - we'd make some table mates hah lol!!! Bendyrl for starter anyone ?:D Epi pens all round!

Have you been tested? That is very scary. I have had too many close calls. Carry two Epi-pens at all times and if I know there is going to be seafood/shellfish somewhere. i.e. dining room, I go ahead and try to prepare for it with the Benadryl. Two weeks ago on the Celebrity Reflection, it was lobster night. Took my two Benadryls. After being in the dining room 20 minutes, my eyes closed up on me and could only breathe through one nostril, turned beet read and started eating. For me, this was a mild reaction because I had taken the Benadryl.

The show on the Breakaway isn't the same as the one on the Epic. We'll start finding out what people think of the Breakaway's in just over a week. :)

To those of you that have seen this show, how does it compare to a full size Cirque du Soleil show?

Very poorly, in my opinion. Recognizing that shows are as subjective as food, I thought Cirque was close to dreadful, while I enjoyed BMG and Second City.

Hi - OMG:eek::eek: that was awful for you. yes, I have been tested for all the obvious foods that cause severe reaction like shellfish, nuts, oils etc. I am pretty sure its linked to asian/thai cooking - but still dont know what precisely. I avoid sushi and teppenyaki for that reason. It is worse not knowing, carry my epi pen and play safe if I can. I had a couple of warnings like puffy lips and eyes etc but never thought anything of it till one night the big one happened - and I was on a remote island with no hospital, just a nurse station. By chance, a doctor was on a wee flight into the island so the nurse managed to keep me stable till the doc got there.

Funny enough - our daughter - her "big one" happened on a cruise and actually, a ship is one of the best places to be - instant medical care -

She was taken from her cabin and treated in minutes -

I have photos of my face which my daughter took to show our doctor at home - it looks like did ten rounds with Tyson - what a mess..

Benadryl and Epi pen - I'll be packing them!

Agreed, at least in regards to the Cirque show. We like BMG as well' but did into like Second City. We LOVED the Legends show.

Wow, this is very interesting to me - I have a similar "unknown" allergy, and have had reactions (sometimes hospitalized) to seemingly unrelated things, and it can get scary! Examples, on the Epic last Feb, I drank freshly made Dirty Banana drinks several times in Posh, watching the bartender make them with fresh bananas, rum, choc syrup, etc - no problems. Then one day in the casino I ordered one, and right after the first sip I started reacting. Best we can figure is that the casino bartender had used a pre-made mix instead of fresh banana, and there was something in the mix - tried to get a carton of the mix later (to give to my doctor) to no avail (was too busy dealing with the reaction to do it right away), quick Benadryl kept the reaction in check. Another time was on Thanksgiving, when I had made a fresh lasagna, with all organic and handmade (and hand tasted at each step with no issues) ingredients, except breadcrumbs (cuz I ran out and sent hubby to store last minute), so it must have been the breadcrumbs. Couldn't get the breadcrumbs tested, long story, but a quick hospitalization, steroids, and IV Benadryl took care of that one too.. There have been a few other reactions and hospitalizations over the last few years as well. Strangely, I have been tested for some ingredients twice, reacting one time but not the other, so my doctor thinks it may have to do with my immune system at a particular point in time..

So, what does this have to do with you? While investigating the above incidents, my doctor and I made an interesting discovery.. There are ingredients, used as "flavor enhancers" (like MSG) with Disodium in their names (Disodium Isonate, Disodium Guanylate, etc). I have always been "stomach sensitive" to MSG, so have avoided it for 30 years, but the disodiums are related. Your key, these ingredients are insanely prevalent in Asian foods (can be found in a lot of regular processed food too, which I have avoided for years). It seems that over the years, I have become sensitive to these to the point of current food allergy. So, check these out!!! We think that this is the missing link in my allergic reactions, and could be in yours.. My doctor has been unable to isolate these disodiums for individual testing, but I seem to react to any tested food product containing them. So far so good for me when avoiding these - I don't eat highly flavored processed foods (like pre-bottled teriyaki sauce, flavored potato chips, etc). My allergist hadn't dealt with this particular ingredient before, and it opened the door for several other patients of his, and in my own research on the web I found tons of others with the same reactions.. It's a curious allergy, because you may not react every time...

Sorry this is so long, just wanted to give you some possible direction to your reactions! :D

Full Cirque shows are a more lavish production for sure. That being said we actually enjoyed the Cirque on Epic more than seeing the one at Radio City in NYC. The intimacy of the smaller type venue made it much more interesting to see for us. (not to mention a lot less $ :)

Looking forward very much to the new one on Breakaway.
