Recommended hotel for Summit from San Juan

Can anyone please make some recommendations? It will be our first time overnight in SJ (have called there twice). We would like to be able to walk to restaurants or nightlife if possible as we will not have a car. It's just my wife and me, so kid friendly is not necessary.

Thanks in advance!

We usually stay in the Condado area. We have stayed at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and enjoyed it very much. Have also stayed at Embassy Suites. There are not as many restaurant choices but a nice hotel. We also like the Doubletree. It has a grocery store right across the street. I would recommend any of these three. The only hotel that we have stayed in and would not recommend is the Holiday Inn Express.

I have never stayed there, but we always walk through the El Convento when we visit Old San Juan. Its right in the heart of it and looks very nice. Also there is a casino/hotel close down by the water. Sheraton, I believe. But I haven't stayed there either.

Where I did stay was the Hilton El San Juan out in Isla Verde, and it was great fun. A wonderful beach and pool, with good restaurants and fun night life on the weekends. It may a bit far out from Old San Juan for your needs, however.

Have a great trip!

We've sailed from San Juan numerous times and always stay at Posada San Francisco, a guesthouse in the heart of Old San Juan. It is by no means a 5-star hotel, but the location is amazing (you can see the Castillo de San Cristobal from the balcony) and the price is right (around $50 a night). It's an easy taxi ride from the airport and another easy ride to the port, both about 15 minutes. There are many restaurants within walking range and so many sights to see. The couple who run the guesthouse are darling and will do whatever they can to ensure you have a marvellous stay. A quick Google search for "Posada San Francisco" will take you right to their website where you can see pictures and check prices for your dates.

Sheraton Old San Juan. It's right by the port and pier. Right in the old town in middle of attractions, sightseeings and local restaurants.

Which means nothing as the departure port is no where near Old San Juan:D But still a nice place to stay:)

For OP - for beaches/restaurants etc Condado is a nice area. We like the Condado Hilton or Marriott. As mentioned by others, Old San Juan is a great place to stay too. Just don't go there if beaches are a priority.

While it is right by the pier, that is NOT the pier that Summit uses for embarkation. The PanAmerican terminal requires a cab ride from San Juan. Good hotel, though.

We got both La Concha (twice) and Caribe Hilton bidding on Priceline for around the $110 a night range (plus tax and plus the resort charge they charge at the pier). I really enjoyed both hotels. Caribe Hilton felt somewhat like the Sheraton Wikiki with its big open lobby. The area is nice, kind of half way between the airport and pier (actually closer to the pier than airport, but cab costs the same, I think it was around $20 for two people with 2 bags and 2 back packs).

We have stayed in San Juan a lot, in fact we booked our fifth cruise on the Summit. The hotels we have stayed at are:

Verdanza, Isla Verde, most recently Nov 2014, very nice, within walking distance of beach, restaurants maybe half mile or so,

Howard Johnson's, Isle Verde, rated two stars and I will agree on that rating and would not stay there again

Radisson Ambassador, stayed Nov 2013, very nice hotel, on main drag, also close to bus line if you care to bus to Old San Juan, restaurants within walking distance, no beach nearby

Caribe Hilton, very upscale hotel, beautiful pool area, close to Celebrity port

Pan American Pier

Condado Plaza Hilton, very nice hotel and within walking distance of restuarants and high class stores,

Good luck and enjoy San Juan!

I was on the Summit in February and stayed at the Casa Castellana Bed and Breakfast when US Air canceled our flights two days in a row. It was fabulous. The owner Natalia has created a beautiful place to stay, outstanding breakfasts, and a great retreat two short blocks from Ashford Avenue in condado and the Marriott Stellaris Hotel. The third floor has a beautiful open air patio where the wonderful breakfast is served each morning. Natalia is very knowledgable and handles all arrangements for you if you need taxis, tours, and boarding passes. She can be reached at:

casacastellanapr@AOL.COM.

I can't wait to stay ther again!

Not to hijack the topic, but I am thinking of staying at the Holiday Inn Express for pre and post cruise 1 day stay in Early June.

May I ask why you would not recommend it.

Thanks

Hi there. We ended up staying at the Best Western Plus, Condado Palm Inn and Suites.

We didn't really have any complaints but I should also advise that we basically just used it to sleep as we were out most of the day exploring Puerto Rico.

You can let me know if you would like more information.
