Hawaii 15 day question

Has anyone done the 15 day Hawaii cruise from LA? I am considering but was wondering if the 8 sea days will be too much to handle. Do they do anything special or have different activities to do other than what is on the week long caribbean cruises? I am asking because the itinerary is 4 sea days, 5 days in Hawaii, then 4 sea days. Just seems long having 4 sea days in a row.

Looking for opinions from those who have done this. Aloha

Depends on whether you enjoy long lazy sea days or not - I love them, hubby hates them. Everyone is different.

My sister and I are on the 10 day Vancouver to Hawaii cruise in September - and we have 5 sea days in a row! We are looking forward to it, but hubby would not want to be on this cruise for sure! We are getting the Cheers package for drinks and most likely will lounge in the sun with boat drinks and read all day... probably do the afternoon teas they have. Just totally unwind! But I am sure there will be activities for those who want to do them. If you are not a fan of sea days, I would give that cruise a pass - I would totally do it, but I love lazy sea days...:D

We did it and DH and I loved it. But I agree, some people like sea days and some don't. We often cruise where we don't even get off the ship at a lot of the ports. We really enjoy slow days of just relaxing.

We are doing another 15 day Hawaiian out of LA in Nov of 2016.

I've done 2 Hawaii cruises and loved them both! I have a very hectic work life, so getting on board the ship knowing that I do not have to answer to anyone for anything for several days in a row is a amazing feeling! There is plenty to do, if you choose. And for my recent Carnival Hawaii cruise there were extra Hawaiian arts & crafts classes that were available, as well as a naturalist who gave talks in the show lounge every day. The Fun Times was absolutely packed with activities.

For myself, I loved that we had the opportunity for Sea Day Brunch so many times!

We always bring cards and dominoes for our days at sea, too. I am bringing Cards Against Humanity on the next one! Ole'!

We did this last December. Always had stuff to do and naturalist Michelle was outstanding. Didnt have brunch everyday but like everyother day.

Ship had propulsion problem and got there late and we didnt get to see all we wanted . Carnival was very good about giving us credits but on next trip this December will try Princess.

I was on the same sailing. Even though there were problems with the weather, the propulsion system and our itinerary was changed, I still had a blast! We were on a ship crossing the Pacific Ocean. Things happen. I feel that the staff went above and beyond for the passengers.

Staff was great and we had a very good time.

We left 2 hours late and with propulsion problems dont think we ever make first stop as scheduled, Everything had to break right to get there and it didnt and

most of what we planned went by wayside.

We were on the October cruise (with the same propulsion issues) and made all our ports. You guys had horrible weather. Mom and Sis were on your cruise (Rosefloater).

The first and last two days will be a bit rough crossing across the Alaskan Current. West Coast cruisers thought our cruise was smooth. Caribbean cruisers thought it was rough.

We didn't think the cruise had enough sea days. Could have had at least two more for us.

Wow thanks everyone! I love lazy sea days if i can soak up the rays by the pool but i have read that it is too cold on deck and most stay inside until closer to Hawaii, then it earms up.

We took the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise earlier this month. We had 5 days at sea, the first two were good pool lounging weather. The last three, not so much. Wasn't miserably cold, but not ideal for laying out in a bathing suite. I must say, that many sea days in a row was refreshing. You no longer answer to a clock. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when your tired, and answer to nobody. Wish I could hit the reset button and do it again!

Sea day is the perfect way to unplug. No stress, no cell call, no work, no pesky boss or customers and no schedule to keep. Just miles of ocean and total tranquility. Do whatever you like or simply do nothing if you like. Absolutely love it.

On sea days, besides the naturalist, there was morning and afternoon crafts. Both sessions normally do the same craft, but on the Dec. cruise, morning did true Hawaiian crafts and afternoon did general crafts (think Party City) with a hawaiian theme. Heard people were at the early session about 1 hour before the time listed.

One of the sea days on the return, there was a ship building contest using discarded items from the islands.

We always bring playing cards and Phase 10. We also met some great people on the ship and were always getting together just to talk and pass the time.

My DH and I are booked for the Hawaii Journey cruise in January. I'm excited and looking forward to the sea days! Sounds like there will be so much to do and I can't wait! And here is some info you might be interested in. I have put this on a couple of other posts already and am thinking about starting a NEW THREAD with this being the subject. People have so many preconceived ideas about what a 'journey' cruise is. All they have to do is google Carnival Journey cruises and it goes into great details...

Carnival Journeys cruises will include: ACTIVITIES:

Authentic Eats: Partnering with local restaurants and chefs, Carnival said guests can enjoy onboard cooking demonstrations where local chefs will recreate their signature dishes and traditional cuisines from their country. PARTICIPANTS will also have an opportunity to dine at the chef’s restaurant ashore for a nominal fee and accompany the chef as he or she visits local markets for regional specialties.

“Local”-tainment: From calypso, soca and Goombay to folkloric entertainment, guests will get an up close and personal look at their destination through local entertainment performances taking place outside the ship or onboard.

Academy of Fun:[/u] Through EDUCATIONAL enrichment sessions, Carnival’s shipboard experts will instruct guests in topics ranging from cooking and arts and crafts to digital photography and social media or celestial navigation. All of these activities will be performed in the “fun” style of Carnival.

Throwback Seaday: Carnival promises to set the “way back machine” to 1987 and recreate a fun day at sea with retro pool and deck games, old school DINING options like Baked Alaska and the gala midnight buffet, a white glove Captain’s celebration, popular movies from that era, a circa 1987 version of the Carnival Capers shipboard newsletter, and more.

Shipboard Team Member Connection: Here, Carnival Journeys participants can learn more about shipboard life through question and answer sessions hosted by the ship’s captain, cruise director, hotel director and others, held at different times throughout the voyage and providing an opportunity to engage and interact with the Carnival team in a casual setting. There will also be a show performed by the ship’s crew during the voyage.

We spent a lot of time with your mom and sister and enjoyed time spent with them. Your mom is the definition of feisty.

Funny thing is we didnt think the weather was bad at all.

On our October cruise we had gentle rocking, we weren't sailing into weather. That was too much for some pax. They paid the PVSA fine and figured out their own way home.

Same itin, different pax. For our crafts period I was an early bird showing up 15 minutes beforehand.

I've sailed this itinerary several times. BUT, definitely, NCL is the winner for Hawaii, which I have done more- 9 I believe? It also allows me to add a couple more weeks, easily in Hawaii.

Carnival- does have a ship naturalist on board who does do a few programs. Princess is superior with their activities and more "Hawaii" stuff to do- lecture programs, several "craft" activities, ending with a ukulele/hula concert. NCL also has Hawaiian Ambassadors on board. Carnival did not.

I'm bored silly on sea days, and not my preference, same with the yearly transAtlantics I do every year. My husband prefers them, so, these multiple sea day cruises are compromises for me (and for him, on all my preferences :) ) We do cruise very frequently, so it works for us, but, if your an infrequent cruiser, be certain the itinerary is a good fit, with what you want out of your cruise. These cruises- have little "Hawaii" time in my opinion.

We did it with RCI in 2007 out of San Diego. I LOVE sea days, and in my opinion, they went wayyyyy too fast. There was plenty of time to do everything on board, or nothing at all. I spend most of those days doing absolutely nothing, but hanging out on the balcony with a pitcher of iced tea, and a book.... even watched a couple movies with the sound of the ocean outside the balcony.

It was the BEST waste of time ever without a care in the world. Ahh I need to do it again.

Carnival & RC have one-way cruises that either embark or disembark in Honolulu. You can spend as much time as you want playing tourist in Hawaii before or after the cruise

We're sailing the November 15 day roundtrip out of Long Beach. We've been to Hawaii before, but the eight sea days will be a new cruise experience for us. Having a balcony will enhance that experience.

My only HAL cruise was 14 nights roundtrip to Hawaii from San Diego. I was mildly concerned about sailing a smaller ship (Zaandam) in mid/late November, but didn't have any problems (I swear by Ginger Root capsules).

I was also mildly concerned that I'd be bored to death with so many sea days.

By day 2, I had a routine. Breakfast, somewhere quiet to read, cooking or native Hawaiian talk, lunch, casino, happy hour, dinner, jazz club, casino, bed.

By Day 4, I decided I could do that for the rest of my life! :p

I currently have my 25th Carnival cruise booked and am hoping for either a Panama Canal or a Hawaii cruise for my Milestone.
