1st time cruise - Two of us

Recommended Posts

Hi just looking for advice.

We're currently looking at the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the seas that goes for 9 nights with 4 ports. It's our first time cruising and we're doing it together. Was wondering if anyone else would recommend this and any extra advice would be great!

The price of the ship costs about $2,200 all up for both of us and we're looking at the ocean view rooms. We're in in our mid 20s so we're pretty excited!

The best advice anyone can give you is to do extensive research including learning how to (and using) the search function on this board.

That said, I will suggest one thing: in looking at the "value" of a cruise: Don't make the rookie mistake of comparing only the cabin cost. Instead, assemble all your projected costs (e.g., airfare, excursions,, cabin, internet, beverages, gratuities, etc.). Divide the total projected cost by the number of travel days and you'll have a "net daily rate" to compare as you then add the other factors of choice l(ike quality of food and service, smoking policies, nickel/diming once in board etc).

If this is the timeframe you want...going to places you'd like to go, and the price is ok with you...then go, and have fun! Cruises are holidays...so you'll have a blast!

Personally, I'd rather have more port days, as sea days on the ship are kind of crowded....but if you're simply about relaxation...then it will be fine!

Explorer is an excellent ship with a lot of on-board activities and excellent entertainment. As a couple in your mid 20s, I think you'll love it. Go and have a great time. :)
