rvsullivan Posted November 10, 2014 #26 Share Posted November 10, 2014 E-cigarette user here. I have seen that for security reasons the ships have cameras that catch the better parts of most if not all balconies and I would fear being seen by one of them. I wonder if they would act on that Sorry, I know this is a little off course from the OP'S original question. Hopefully this thread stays active so updates can be posted as cruisers return. Cameras are positioned so that they cannot see any area of the balcony that would invade privacy. They look down the side of the ship to see something/someone going over the side. You can do most anything you want unseen on your balcony including sneaking a smoke.
Ed Posted November 11, 2014 #27 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Just returned from a 14 night transatlantic on the Epic. We where in a 2 bedroom on deck 17 and there was plenty of balcony smoking going on. So is it enforced? Not from what we experienced.

Partyatsea Posted November 12, 2014 #29 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Interested to know if Spice H2O on Breakaway still has a smoking section. Anyone off Breakaway today know as we always only smoke in designated areas? I was on the Breakaway last week. There was a seated smoking section near the pool that was inclosed. You could also smoke at the bar in H2O and outside Maltings on deck 8. I hope that helps. Thank you J&Jsmommy! jingle5616 Posted November 12, 2014 #30 Share Posted November 12, 2014 I was on the first Jewel cruise to have no smoking balconies. I didn't notice any smoke from nearby balconies, but then I really never noticed before either. When the ship is moving at 17-20 knots I never thought it was much of an issue. What I did notice was a lot of smoking on the deck 7, 12, 13. A lot. Both sides. The casino smelled like any other casino I've been in....stale smoke. Basically it's off the balconies and on the main outdoor spaces where even more will take it in. Brilliant! Self inoculation-- I'm a non-smoker.
hladygirl Posted November 12, 2014 #31 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Just booked a 14 night cruise on the dawn next fall. We have always gotten balconys or minisuite. I am a smoker so we decided to save our money and book an inside on deck 12 down the hall from the pool deck. If I can't even enjoy coffee or cocktail with a cigarette on my balcony then why pay that much extra? We'll see how this works for us.
Blondie008 Posted November 12, 2014 #32 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Policy not in effect on your cruise since you embarked prior to 11/1.Let's please keep this thread to the OP'S original question in regards to locations. I was on the same cruise - and surprisingly the new balcony policy DID very quietly come into play on November 1st. The dailies changed - with smoking policy clearly stating no smoking in cabins AND on balconies. I would imagine they were being pretty lenient with it but the dailies did indeed change on November 1st. An officer question and answer session implied this would be the only change, and smoking on Epic would still be allowed in current smoking locations. I just wish they would apply designated vaping areas for we no nicotine vapers :p
Dennisgirl Posted November 12, 2014 #33 Share Posted November 12, 2014 I would like to know where Haven guests are allowed to smoke since the smoking policies changed. I can't seem to find that answer anywhere. Thanks!
TAYLORCPA Posted November 13, 2014 #34 Share Posted November 13, 2014 On the Pearl last week I did not encounter any balcony smoke. The starboard side of the pool deck was designated as smoking. It was annoying because it was right ouside the kids pool area and you could really smell it there.

I can't seem to find that answer anywhere. Thanks! THEY can smoke in the Haven area! They have special dispensation....Their smoke doesn't travel and suite guests would never complain...Truly, unfair. Smoking rules should apply to all guests who smoke.. Just because it's a different area, and some can afford that space, it's wrong. I'm sure not all suite guests smoke, but no one posted about it bothering the non-smokers in their little 'restricted' air space.

I'll delay to see if policy changes, but looks like I may have to look elsewhere :(

Directly from the NCL website, the policy is: Guests in the Garden Villas may smoke in their private garden and on their private sun decks. Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is prohibited in or near venues serving food, the jogging track, outdoor sporting venues, The Haven outdoor areas and children's pool area. I have yet to see the dreaded chain smoking refugee that has ruined people's cruises. Always seemed odd to me that one would pay thousands of dollars just to sit on their balcony and chain smoke. Could do that at home. Traveling at 17-20 knots, that stuff dissipates like a fart in the breeze.
Dennisgirl Posted November 13, 2014 #39 Share Posted November 13, 2014 Yes, I read the policy quoted above prior to posting. I wanted to know about the Breakaway, which does not have Garden Villas in the Haven. Has anybody sailed on the Breakaway lately in the Haven who can answer this question? I'm sorry I wasn't specific enough.
