Question about Lanyards

During port visits and at night I do the same, but otherwise the Lanyard is easiest for me.:D

DH and I have lanyards showing our state university sports logo. They are great conversation starters.

We don't use a lanyard. I like clothes with pockets and purses with dividers.

Agree with you. I have never used a lanyard - it reminds me of children in school that need to keep track of something so they wear it around their neck. On many cruise lines a passenger would look out of place wearing one. If you are worried about losing your key card, there are travel clothing stores with zippered pockets -- they work great!

I cruised three times before I even caught on to the lanyard idea! Personally, I loved having my card easily available for drink purchases, especially by the pool. My bathing suit doesn't have pockets. On my lanyard-free cruises, I had to either carry a small purse with me or ask my husband to hold my card in his pocket. I got one with rhinestones that looked okay with everything. A male friend got one that was braided leather- none of us had one that "looked" like a lanyard. I've seen them at Walmart and the dollar store. I also hung mine on a hook on the wall so I wasn't always hunting around for it. We got them punched at customer service, and I hooked the clip directly through the card (not in the plastic sleeve- it kept sticking). Hope this helps!

I got my kids lanyards from Party City - they were $1 each and have super heroes on them. I'm still shopping for myself; I don't need anything fancy, but I'd like to have something that reflects my personality and that I like. I don't care if I look 'out of place' or not when I'm wearing a lanyard - as long as I know where my card is, I'm good!

Take a look on Amazon. There are a lot to pick from on there. And, do a search on Etsy. We've purchased lanyards from there before.

If you have a Hard Rock Cafe in your town, please visit the gift shop and get one of their lanyards that come as a pack that include some trading pins. Also, if you have a casino near you, join the slot club and the slot card club folks might give you a lanyard to put your card on it. In addition, you can buy Cruise Critic's lanyards, but make sure you buy plenty because you can easily lose them (as I've learned the hard way a few weeks ago). Lastly, if you're booked on a cruise line that sells gifts online for Bon Voyage and cabin amenities, then considering buying a lanyard from them. Celebrity has good ones. Royal and other lines have those plastic containers that resemble booze flasks for storing your cabin keys. One other thing: please make sure if you play in ship casinos, that key card is also a slot club card, so don't forget to remove it from the slot when moving from slot machine to slot machine (another lesson learned the hard way!). Whatever path you decide to travel, buy lots of these lanyards. Bon Voyage!

The answer depends on whether the card is on the lanyard or in my cardholder with the Celebrity logo on it. If the card is on the lanyard, then give the whole thing to the bartender or bar server to swipe at the register. The problem with the lanyard is that the card is on those tricky little metal rings that you need strong fingernails to separate the two pieces to put the card on it after it's punched by somebody at a Guest Relations desk. If the card is held in my card holder, then I give the server the card itself.

But if you're paying for drinks, I recommend that you buy a beverage package so that you don't pay drink 1, drink 2, etc. The only reason the bar tender will ask for your card is to check to see if you have a sticker on it showing which package you bought. Sometimes, though, they will take the card and swipe it so that they can collect a tip from you: those packages don't include gratuities. On a round of expensive beverages such as spirits or cocktails, those will add up to a tidy tip to the server.

I prefer buying packages so that I can get what I want: wines, beers, or soft drinks in the souvenir cups. Note to families: if you think you're going to get those cups through airport security in your carry-ons, think again. TSA will confiscate them because they're too big. That happened to me at MIA coming back from an RCL cruise. Solution: Leave the cups in your cabin before disembarkation. If the kids want them anyway, tuck them away in checked luggage. Lastly, if you're on Celebrity ships with Cellar Masters bars, the enomatic machines will not take your cabin key cards: you have to buy a separate debit card to access the wines in those machines from the

bartender or server.

Maybe on some of the upscale lines but certainly not on the mass market lines.

True but, not everything someone wants to wear will have zippered pockets.

I usually opt for a wristlet but have been known to use a lanyard.:D

I bought a lanyard on my cruise with Royal, and the lanyard has an additional buckle clip in it just above where the card is attached to the end. All I had to do was unclip the bottom part from the lanyard and hand that over. Much easier than either taking the whole thing off from around my neck or having to retrieve the card out of the plastic holder that was originally attached to the end of it.

But plenty of people where dragging the whole thing off from their neck and handing it to the bar staff.

I was thinking of making and selling cruise lanyards on Etsy. Would there be a market for that? I found some cool nautical fabric with anchors and lifesavers! What do the cruise lines usually charge?

This question is slightly related - where do you put your stuff while you're swimming? I've read that it's not okay to leave it on a lounger, so where should you put your towel, sea pass etc? Is it safe to leave things unattended on board? How about on the beaches on port days??

I plan on taking a towel and small tote bag to the pool. As long as you are at the pool leaving your stuff on a chair isn't an issue. They don't want you trying to hold your chair while you

leave the area to go eat, etc.
