DuaneO Posted February 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2011 This message was given to any folks who have an up-comming cruise in Mexcio... Information for Norwegian Star Guests Norwegian Star Guests (02/24/11 4:15 PM EST) The safety and security of our guests and crew is our number one priority. Therefore, the company has been closely monitoring the situation in Mazatlan, Mexico. Because of recent incidents of violence in Mazatlan, we are canceling all of Norwegian Star’s calls to Mazatlan for the remainder of the season through the April 30, 2011 sailing. Instead, the ship will make two back-to-back calls to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We thank our guests for their understanding. ###

maja651 Posted February 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2011 Weird, the only Alert I see is regarding the Jade. Michelle
Summerfeet Posted February 24, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 24, 2011 I didn't get that either but I'm not surprised. What happens about shore excursions? We are prebooked already.

lax19 Posted February 25, 2011 #9 Share Posted February 25, 2011 I didn't get that either but I'm not surprised. What happens about shore excursions? We are prebooked already. If your excursion is with NCL, you should get a refund. It is with a private company, you may or may not. Most will give you a refund if your ship does not make it to port.
Tucsoncruisers Posted February 25, 2011 #10 Share Posted February 25, 2011 Eight of us are sailing on the Star this Saturday. We each got a phone call with a recorded message informing us of the change of ports in the last hour. It is also an alert when we sign onto our accounts on NCLcom. mbisson Posted February 25, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 25, 2011 While I would have liked to do Maz-I'll trust this is for our safety. For us-it'll be good either way :)
cruisldy Posted February 25, 2011 #12 Share Posted February 25, 2011 I found this when searching as we are sailing March 5 and this is a very popular tourist area. http://mazmessenger.com/2011/02/23/two-gunned-down-in-the-zona-dorada/ We got no E-mail or phone call but saw it posted on our Roll Call board and also saw it posted on the NCL web sight, but it wasn't there until late this afternoon. roger001 Posted February 25, 2011 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2011 I'm very sorry for the wonderful people of Mazatlan, Pedro and Hernando our trolly tour guides, the wonderful restaurant where we stopped for the world's most amazing shrimp...and on and on. NCL was pulling out soon anyhow.
marelind Posted February 25, 2011 #14 Share Posted February 25, 2011 They probably emailed those of us who are leaving in the next couple of sailings. I received messages on home and cell phone as well as on email.
singinglizzie Posted February 25, 2011 #15 Share Posted February 25, 2011 I for one am unhappy with the change. While Cabo is good for a few hours, spending 2 days there is IMHO a waste of valuable port time. We have to tender in twice. At least if we had the whole night there (which we don't) we could have taken a longer excursion. We leave in 2 weeks, so we have no choice but to make due with this change. But, I guess it's better than no port. ;(
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 25, 2011 #16 Share Posted February 25, 2011 Instead, the ship will make two back-to-back calls to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. ### Apologies for my ignorance here; does this mean the ship is anchored off Cabo for two consecutive days, but you have to be back aboard the first night? tiyana4 Posted February 25, 2011 #17 Share Posted February 25, 2011 Apologies for my ignorance here; does this mean the ship is anchored off Cabo for two consecutive days, but you have to be back aboard the first night? kabell99 Posted February 25, 2011 #18 Share Posted February 25, 2011 It could mean Cabo, PV, and Cabo again on the return trip. My email I recieved this evening for the 4/16 cruise states that we will anchor in Cabo 12-7 on Monday, then Cabo 8-3 on Tuesday, and PV 8-5 on Wednesday. I do not think that they stay anchored over night...they will go out to sea so they can open the casino. They don't want to lose that revenue. marelind Posted February 25, 2011 #21 Share Posted February 25, 2011 We were in Cabo last April and the wind was BLOWING all day!! They had to run the engines just to keep the ship from being blown onto the beach. I don't know if it's always that way, but they might as well cruise around and open the casino.
cacj Posted February 25, 2011 #22 Share Posted February 25, 2011 We leave this Sat for MR and I must say that NCL was very thorough in making contact with us about the change in itinerary. We received 2 calls on our cell phone, 1 call on our home phone and email info. Good job, NCL.
bluechip508 Posted February 25, 2011 #23 Share Posted February 25, 2011 I am on the March 12 sailing of the Star to the Mexican Riviera. Regarding the cancellation of the Mazatlan port call, I would have preferred if they substituted a new port (except Ensenada) than do Cabo two days in a row. The reason they are not going to spend the night in Cabo is they were counting on being at sea on Monday night sailing from Cabo to Mazatlan with people spending money in the specialty restaurants, casino, bars, stores, spa, etc. If they overnight in Cabo, everyone will be on shore spending money in town rather than on the ship. valleyvillage Posted February 25, 2011 #24 Share Posted February 25, 2011 Last time we were on the Star in PV we had a short tender, but some ships were berthed. The time before that we berthed. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell how it will be on a specific cruise, or do they not really know until just before, depending on variables? I ask because Mom (91) can't really tender easily, so this would mean no ports for her at all if PV is a tender. BTW, she is fine with that, just trying to get info! Thanks!
