aussietwo Posted August 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2016 Does anyone know which one they deduct first. We have a sizable refundable OBC and wonder if you have to use that up first. When you board you should receive cards in your room showing all of the various OBC etc that you will be receiving. The Stateroom attendant will get you to sign for them usually on the first day and then they will be activated on your account. The cards should show whether the OBC is Refundable or NonRefundable. If you have a remaining credit at the end of your cruise that is less than the amount of REFUNDABLE credit you will be able to take that amount in CASH. In fact you will get a nessage to come and pick it up on the last evening of the cruise. Don't ask to cash it out earlier in the cruise or they will deduct a charge. The short answer is there is NO order in which it is used - whatever is left if it is the same or less than your original refundable will be refunded to you. JimandStan Posted August 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Do you know how much the charge is to ask for cash back earlier in the cruise? They definitely charge against non refundable first, but O stopped allowing access (before the last day) to refundable OBC about six years ago. We used to buy ourselves OBC all the time so that Stan would have an easy way to access cash for the Casino, but then there was some kind of money laundering kerfuffle, and they stopped allowing cash draws before the end of the cruise. Interesting that when we asked only in June this year that we were told on Insignia that if we took the REFUNDABLE out in the beginning we would be charged a fee. Surely if it is not possible they would have said so. Edited August 26, 2016 by aussietwo
CruisinPrawn Posted August 26, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) Not true They use the non refundable first Sent from my iPhone using Forums Bitob why be so pedantic - Aussie said "whatever is left if it is the same or less than your original refundable will be refunded to you." so really that is saying that the refundable is being used last. Technically Oceania just add it all to your account and it comes out of the whole pot - there are not two accounts running with labels NonRefundable and Refundable. Let's be a bit more positive on these boards when others are being helpful. __________________ Edited August 26, 2016 by CruisinPrawn

Surely if it is not possible they would have said so. I agree that a fee would have been triggered if you had taken what they consider to be a cash advance at the Front Desk. Where you seem unclear, is that the non refundable portion of your OBC would not have been accessible as cash regardless of whether you paid a fee or not. azam71209 Posted August 26, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2016 we had some refundable and some nonrefundable OBC this summer on Regatta. On the last evening, we got a call to come and pick up the refundable OBC that was left. Interestingly, the TA had told us that the OBC from her company would be refundable to the company not to us. Anyway we had used almost all of it and just added the leftover amount to our staff tip. Not worth standing in line at reception and everyone had provided great service. cruisedoctor Posted August 26, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Does anyone know if the OBC received under the "O'Life Choice Promotion" is refundable or non-refundable? We are getting $800 of OBC via that promotion. Will use $320 of that towards the gratuities...but since we don't drink or do shore excursions was hoping to find a way to get the other $480 back in cash. Any recommendations? Thanks! azam71209 Posted August 26, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 26, 2016 You might be better off choosing the "cruise only" option and keep your money if you don't drink and don't go on shore excursions. I guess you would lose the free internet but it is likely to be cheaper to buy your own air and get the flights you want anyway. Or you could use the spa a lot or buy jewelry in the gift shop. Dr. J Promotional OBC (i.e Olife) is always non-refundable. The remaining $480 is use it or lose it, so you're best off to use the Spa, buy something in the shops, or take an excursion. Dr. J I would imagine that the reason we are seeing the new pricing where you can opt out and do cruise only is because of people that are in the same situation you are. Is your cruise eligible for that?

SuzyQ214 Posted September 15, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 15, 2016 If the O-Life OBC is non-refundable, is it fair to say that additional OBC from your TA is refundable?

Not necessarily You need to ask your TA if it is refundable or not Some OBC from TA's are really via the cruise line Edited September 15, 2016 by LHT28
bitob Posted September 15, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 15, 2016 It is wise to get a breakdown from your ta before you cruise. I would not depend on Oceania to tell you which is which Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Mura Posted September 15, 2016 #21 Share Posted September 15, 2016 Well, they do when you are actually on board. When we boarded Nautica in June, we had a whole bunch of cards noting all of our OBC -- and they were clearly marked as being refundable or non-refundable. (In our case we had about $1500 in OBC of which $500 was refundable, and we received that amount in cash the night before we left the ship.) This won't help you if you need to know BEFORE you board, but you certainly will know ONCE you board. And if you have any questions, ask them of the crew member (probably your cabin steward) who gets you to sign the acknowledgement that you're aware of the benefits. bitob Posted September 15, 2016 #22 Share Posted September 15, 2016 My point was that it is wise to know in case Oceania has wrong information. That has happened in the past. It's good to be informed about your benefits before you board Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Mura Posted September 15, 2016 #23 Share Posted September 15, 2016 Good point ... no arguments from me! It seems that many people in the past have complained about information they got from Oceania's customer service. I never have myself, but it's been clear that many others have. I agree that it's a good idea to check with your TA as to what is refundable and what is not. Our TA always lets us know which is which when it is granted.
