Rare stevenr597 Posted November 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2016 We will be doing a 10 day partial transit of the Panama Canal this January. How many Formal/Elegant nights will the ship have, and which days will be selected for the Formal nights. We want to book at least one of the Specialty Restaurants and we do not wish to conflict with Formal Night.
floridalover5623 Posted November 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2016 Two. The first is usually the second night on board and the second is usually a sea day just prior to the last night before disembarkation.

Also, your formal nights absolutely will NOT be the first night you board or your last night on the ship.

The first formal night will probably be day 2 or 3 which are sea days and the second, day 8 which is also a sea day. When you board there will be a Princess Patter in your cabin. In it will be a chart which shows which nights are the formal nights, and it will contain other information regarding the evening entertainment. You can then make your decision, visit the specialty restaurant of your choosing, and make your reservation. You can also call the DINE line, but we have always found it easier just to visit. There is normally someone present starting around 1pm.

We always go to the Specialty Restaurant that we want to make reservations on the first day and request for a table. Opening time is listed at the Patter. WupperAV Posted November 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 30, 2016 Uhoh Thrak, Princess will be suing you for copying. When you get aboard, call 1st thing and reserve your dinner time.
Cruisin' Chick Posted November 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 30, 2016 Unless things have changed, you can't book specialty restaurants until you get on board so I wouldn't stress out over this. You'll find out for sure what nights are formal and what ones are smart casual when you get in your cabin and look over the first Patter. and unless you're intending to book a very popular night (like Valentine's Day), most likely you'll get a ressie. It could be that booking a smart casual night may be easier than a formal night (some people like to book those as they can have a nice meal while dressing smart casual). satxdiver Posted November 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 30, 2016 If you go down to the specialty restaurant of your choice and talk to them about a reservation, they know when the formal nights will be and you can then go from there. The crown grill tends to fill up quickly while Sabatini's will have space available on formal nights in my experience.
WupperAV Posted November 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 30, 2016 Using a telephone provided by Princess in your room saves running down to the Restaurant. They will take your reservation.
