Dennisgirl Posted February 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) DH and I have cruised with NCL 3 of the past 4 years, always in December. We've been in a mini suite on the Gem and Jewel and a Haven suite on the Breakaway. So, we like NCL-- a lot! However, we cruised this past December and STILL have not gotten the cash left in our on-board accounts sent to us. In previous years, if there WAS anything left, I got the refund check before the new year started. I have written to NCL twice and provided the supporting documentation. I have complained to the TA. His response? "Some people find that it's taking a year to get that money back". Really?! I can hardly believe ANYBODY finds this acceptable. We are very likely to write them off the vacation list! CasinoCruzGirl Posted February 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I would call every single day. How much is it? Not that it should really matter
pieshops Posted February 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2016 waiting even a day to get MY cash back is unacceptable, If given cash and there is leftover you should get cash back. This is why I put my NCL credit card down on day one and not have to deal with any of this
sebas030 Posted February 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Are you talking about OBC ? There is refundable OBC and NON refundable OBC ! Refundable OBC is used first and then the non refundable one....so if there is any leftover, you do not get it back ! Maybe that's whats going on ? ptuder Posted February 9, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2016 We sailed the Escape on December 5 and our refund took about 6 weeks. Friends sailed the same week and they took 6 weeks also. A couple of years ago on the Epic our refund took at least a month.

In my experience non-refundable was used first, for applicable expenses (not DSC), and then refundable. Moby0215 Posted February 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I highly doubt anyone has waited a year. I think your TA is full of it. Have you tried calling NCL? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ncklhaus Posted February 9, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 9, 2016 They use refundable first. We were on the Breakaway last month and had both refundable and non refundable OBC. They applied the non refundable first and we are due a small refund of our left over OBC. We have always purchased OBC and they have always used the nonrefundable first. kdzkatz Posted February 9, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 9, 2016 They use refundable first. Amateur hour. They use NON refundable first. I'm speaking from experience.
ptuder Posted February 9, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Amateur hour. They use NON refundable first. I'm speaking from experience. Agreed. On our Dec 5 cruise we had $500 non refundable with the remainder refundable. They used NON refundable first which is why we received a refund of our unused refundable credit. Refund took 6 weeks but we received exactly what we were expecting.
casofilia Posted February 9, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Refundable OBC is used first and then the non refundable one....so if there is any leftover, you do not get it back ! My understanding is that the Non-refundable is used first so I hope you are incorrect. It cannot be used for some things however. Mike
Dennisgirl Posted February 9, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Thanks, everybody. I will try calling NCL next, but others have reported waiting to speak with a live person for an hour or more, so I thought writing was better. That's not true so far. About the fundage itself--I am talking about USD $ money that was taken from my (or DH's) wallets and used to enable on-board accounts for each of us. I am not speaking of any types of OBC here. I am due $67 and he is due $200. If I ever sail NCL again, I will know I have to join that loooooong line on the evening before departure to finalize my account.

AlexandNessa Posted February 9, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 9, 2016 We disembarked Gem 5/2/15 with a credit due and received our refund check on 7/28/15. I think they take their sweet time. :(

khaide612 Posted February 9, 2016 #19 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I put a credit card down to hold my onboard account but then every few days I go to the desk and give them cash toward my onboard spending - depending on how much I bring and how well/not I do in the casino. Avoids that long line on the last night and avoids a huge credit card bill or hold at the end.
NurseDave Posted February 9, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 9, 2016 You like the cruises but say you'll stop cruising them because your refund is taking too long? Sure sure.
NCLfamily Posted February 9, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I'm not sure why people would buy OBC? Register a card and walk off the ship at the end. Your card gets charged?

Dennisgirl Posted February 10, 2016 Author #24 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I called NCL yesterday, and spoke to someone in post-cruise guest relations. She told me that my and DH's checks had been printed and would be mailed shortly and we could expect to receive them next week. I certainly hope so! IsanTom Posted February 10, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 10, 2016 How can you tell refundable OBC and Non-Refundable OBC? Are both indicated on your bill when credited or do you need to ask Guest Services?
