Getting Annoyed with NCL

DH and I have cruised with NCL 3 of the past 4 years, always in December. We've been in a mini suite on the Gem and Jewel and a Haven suite on the Breakaway. So, we like NCL-- a lot! However, we cruised this past December and STILL have not gotten the cash left in our on-board accounts sent to us. In previous years, if there WAS anything left, I got the refund check before the new year started. I have written to NCL twice and provided the supporting documentation. I have complained to the TA. His response? "Some people find that it's taking a year to get that money back". Really?! I can hardly believe ANYBODY finds this acceptable. We are very likely to write them off the vacation list!

Are you talking about OBC ?

There is refundable OBC and NON refundable OBC !

Refundable OBC is used first and then the non refundable one....so if there is any leftover, you do not get it back !

Maybe that's whats going on ?

I don't think this is actually the case. In my experience non-refundable was used first, for applicable expenses (not DSC), and then refundable.

They use refundable first.

We were on the Breakaway last month and had both refundable and non refundable OBC. They applied the non refundable first and we are due a small refund of our left over OBC.

We have always purchased OBC and they have always used the nonrefundable first.

Have read the opposite many times here on CC...

Maybe it differs based on something...

Amateur hour. They use NON refundable first. I'm speaking from experience.

Agreed. On our Dec 5 cruise we had $500 non refundable with the remainder refundable. They used NON refundable first which is why we received a refund of our unused refundable credit.

Refund took 6 weeks but we received exactly what we were expecting.

My understanding is that the Non-refundable is used first so I hope you are incorrect.

It cannot be used for some things however.

Thanks, everybody. I will try calling NCL next, but others have reported waiting to speak with a live person for an hour or more, so I thought writing was better. That's not true so far. About the fundage itself--I am talking about USD $ money that was taken from my (or DH's) wallets and used to enable on-board accounts for each of us. I am not speaking of any types of OBC here. I am due $67 and he is due $200. If I ever sail NCL again, I will know I have to join that loooooong line on the evening before departure to finalize my account.

Any reason you didn't use a credit card? No problem in that case.

I put a credit card down to hold my onboard account but then every few days I go to the desk and give them cash toward my onboard spending - depending on how much I bring and how well/not I do in the casino. Avoids that long line on the last night and avoids a huge credit card bill or hold at the end.
