QM2 Bed positition in oceanview cabin

Hi, I have looked at a number of pictures of the oceanviews and they seem to have the bed arranged under the window looking back into the cabin. Which means it will be difficult to look out the window.

Is it possible to request the bed sideways to the window, or the bed near the head and the sofa near the window? I would like to be able to see out!

I 'm not sure with absolute certainty but I suspect no, due to the locations of light fixtures/switches. I believe some of the small sofas are convertible to beds.

What a good question! I doubt that anything would prevent you from moving the bed yourself; it isn't bolted to the deck.

Remember, most don't spend a lot of time in their cabins, and when I've been in an oceanview a quick glance outside to check the weather is usually all I do. If I want to spend a long time gazing at the sea, I sit in a comfy "steamer chair" on the promenade deck or in the quiet passageways near to Illuminations. However, simply ask for two singles if it is important:

Previously I have found the stewards move balcony chairs and the oval table near the desk from my preferred positions back to their normal place every time they clean. Not sure how they'd react to finding the bed on the "wrong" wall! :eek: :) . Enjoy your time on QM2, Bon Voyage!

That's the case in some of the balcony cabins, but not in the oceanviews.

2 times we were supposed to get a double bed cabin but got 2 singles. i remodeled and the next day the correct sheets/blankets were on the bed. you really gadda do some bad to get cunard to say nono:D

The problem you will have is that the lighting sockets are on the window wall and you will not be able to have your lights on your bedside cabinet on the side farthest away. If you turn the bed "sideways", you may also find the gap between the end of the bed and dressing table is too small, don't forget, these beds are large, not the standard 4' 6" double as they are made up of two single beds, pay the extra and get a balcony or hope for an upgrade :D

Yeh, but all you were doing was move two beds a foot together. Moving them to another position is few steps further.

I would agree that Ocean View is a bit misleading when you have to climb over the bed to see it, but moving it is a non starter.

I had this problem on a Princess ship but I haven't had it on Cunard. I've been in quite a few Oceanview cabins and they all had the beds on the side wall. Perhaps I have been lucky and it depends which Oceanview grade you are in.

I figure if there is room for the beds to be repositioned and get around the vanity I will request it. As far as lamps go I can live without a bedside lamp. We carry a power cord to plug in the phones and laptop and camera etc so that, perhaps, could facilitate the lamp.

We do spend a fair bit of time relaxing in our cabin. I am not much one for crowds, so I like it arranged to suit me.

When I'm in an oceanview cabin, I always ask the beds to be configured as twins. Then the end tables are together in the window but I can sit on a bed and have an unobstructed view of the sea.

The solution, it seems to me, would be to up-grade yourself to a balcony cabin on Decks 11 or 12 (+ parts of Deck 8). That way you'll have no need to rearrange furniture and be able to spend your time relaxing in your cabin, away from other passengers, with superb views of the ocean from your balcony (I've had a Deck 11 balcony cabin, and thought it grand). As a bonus, if a cold wind on your balcony gets too much on a crossing of the north Atlantic and drives you indoors, you'll be able to watch the sea through the glass wall of your warm cabin whilst sat on your sofa. You won't regret it :) .

If memory serves, all of the actual "working" outlets throughout the ship are 240V. The only 120V ones are the bathroom and desk "convenience" outlets for Americans.

While I do remember that all the lamps are bolted to the end tables (for obvious reasons) I don't recall if they plug in or are hard wired. If the later is true there won't be much leeway to move them.

Yes, I did, but since they move the night stands some degree when they configure from twins to double there is clearly some leeway. I guess I will find out, if/when I need to ask if they can reconfigure it, how much there is ; -)

I wouldn't regret it in the least! In fact the only available oceanviews were less than ideal, so I booked a guarantee with full knowledge we might get the undesirable oceanview but with the hope that since this crossing is booking so fast, presumably because of the James Taylor 'bump', we will be fortunate enough to get a 'bump' ourselves into either a nicer oceanview or even, if the upgrade fairy is kind, a balcony of some sort.
