voyageurs Posted January 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2016 hello, would be grateful if you could let me know what would be the best period to cruise to Hawaï, regarding the weather: not too hot and not too much rain ! (or no rain at all !). Thanks
Susan-M Posted January 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Spring (April/May) is a nice time to go - but rain is always possible - it's what makes the tropical vegetation in Hawaii so beautiful.:) However, there are dry and wet sides to each island, so unless it's an island wide weather system, you can usually find a sunny area. September and October are nice too - but if heat is an issue for you, I'd choose spring instead. The whales are there in large numbers during January/February - they start to thin out in March and are gone by late April/early May.
CruiserBruce Posted January 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) A little reading on the board would reveal the weather really doesn't change much- the average high temp doesn't move 10 degrees. Rain is usually short bursts, and it is warm, rarely affects touring. As Susan mentioned, whale season is very popular time. For crowds and costs, if you are looking for a "low" period, October and November up to just before Thanksgiving is as "low" as it gets. PCWalton1 Posted January 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2016 2010 we were in Maui for 4 days and found it to be chilly and wet but lots of whales. :D Chilly just meant a couple evenings of wearing a sweatshirt hoodies in the evening as the cooler temperature combined with rain showers made it feel colder than it really was. sassyredhat Posted January 21, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2016 We usually go in April to get the lowest humidity, but this year we are going in February so we can see more whales. Patti
pjh55 Posted January 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2016 We have been to Hawaii twice. Once in July & the other n November /December. Never saw whales then. We were advised to go to Hawaii Feb / March as lots of them in the waters around Hawaii so we are cruising early March with finger, toes crossed. cb at sea Posted January 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2016 It rains almost every day somewhere on each island...high mountains, humid air...RAIN! Doesn't last long...and it's certainly not a cold rain! One side of each island is wet and lush..the other is drier....

Old As Dirt Mom Posted January 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2016 When is hurricane season in Hawai'i? Thanks June through November. Don't let that stop you from cruising to Hawai'i, though. :)
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 22, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I like going between December and March. Part of the reason is their weather but part is to get away from the cold weather where we live. Keith

CruiserBruce Posted January 29, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 29, 2016 We are cruising to and from Hawaii beginning of April and wondering on what weather would be like on that part of the cruise? As discussed above, the weather in the islands doesn't change much year around. Highs will be 75-85. Lows in the 60-70 range. Assuming you are sailing to the West Coast, as discussed frequently here, it will always be cooler and can be rougher the closer you get to the West Coast, the first and last 48 hours. Laine Posted January 29, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 29, 2016 We will be sailing from Vancouver British Columbia and returning there. Have looked at the weather while we are in the Islands but am curious what our weather will be like sailing from and back to Vancouver. Rain, cooler weather or sunny enough to be around pool or??? Maybe should know but would love to hear from anyone who has done this trip in April. Thanks.
CruiserBruce Posted January 29, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 29, 2016 The weather is not predictable, but, as mentioned, it will be cooler when you are in the Northern Pacific. I seriously you will be at the pool, unless there is a closable roof, the first and last 48 or so hours.

808cruisef Posted January 9, 2017 #19 Share Posted January 9, 2017 It rains almost year round here in Hawaii. Feb through April can be wet as can November and December. Hurricane months can go either way. Jan and May are my two favorite months here. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

The easiest thing to do is to simply google something like "vacation rentals in ..." Or "long term home/condo rental in ...". I think Home Away is one, but you'll find several options. It is quite common for homeowners to rent out properties by the day or week to vacationers in Hawaii, and they list on these sites. We stayed on the Windward Coast of O'ahu in a hillside home facing the bay. We had the entire lower level with private entry with a huge private lanai and full kitchen. The family was on the upper level, but we never knew they were anywhere around. Edit: I see you have already done this! Just scrolled down the page and there it was! Good luck!
